“ I love meat, but I have an open mind, which is why I ended up here. The only complaint that I have is that the names of the dishes are so silly: "I am joyous", "I am beautiful", and so on. I like the set up of the dining area - there is a bar which seats 10-12 people, and there are 6 or so large tables where smaller groups eat communally. We ordered the sampler platter, and out of 6 items, only one was bland (the kale salad - although the two almonds that were placed on top were fantastic). The coconut milk soup with s**take mushrooms was great (cold - surprised me even though I knew this was a raw restaurant). We ordered the 4-crustini plate, but they were out of avocado, so we got two of the presto. Strangely they were also out of cucumbers. They also have a bookcase with "raw" things to buy. I was full when we left. I will go back here! ”

“ What a fun place to hang out with your health-nut friends! I like their “gratitude theme.” There was a birthday celebration and all of the employees came out to sing and dance and pound on random homemade instruments and the energy and enthusiasm shown was great. The food was okay but not very satisfying. I ordered "I Am Graceful" which included quinoa, pesto, tomatoes and sprouts. This place is worth checking out, I would go back there for fun time but not for the food.

“ I will never scoff at the mention of Cafe Gratitude. A friend and I decided to dine at Cafe Gratitude as a result of referrals from a few of my "health-food-loving" friends. We felt that this may be a good opportunity to have fun talking about the vecan, raw, strange foods. We started to back out after we didn't see an immediate parking place and go to a "real" restaurant. Just as I made a U-turn, we spotted a parking place almost in the doorway of the place. We were slightly unimpressed by the exterior since we were more prone to the "real" types of restaurants; however, once inside, we began to lighten up on the internal sneers. The service was unmatched, the atmosphere positive, the environment clean, and the food was ABSOLUTELY deliCIOUS. On the first bite, we were hooked. I had the, "I'm So Elated" enchillada and my friend had the pizza. Of course, we shared and couldn't stop until every bit was consumed. Even the lemonade was delectable; My friend even experimented with a shot of ”

“ Like most, I was expecting to be underwhelmed (not sure about the "raw/alive" concept and gimmicky "I love you" menu item names) but the fact is that the food is deliCIOUS and deeply satisfying. The flavors are really unique and you walk away from a modest meal feeling like you really weren't missing something. The place might be run by a cult (the waitstaff *are* a little bizarre) but it doesn't matter. I'd come back again. The only downside is that the space is unusually hot, uncomfortably so near the back. I thought there was no cooking going on! :-)
I ate: the "nachos" and "pizza", and both were fantastic and absolutely nothing like real nachos and pizza (which I also love). The dessert was underwhelming--tiramisu (not much flavor).

“ All of the items on the menu are named with phrases like "I am fulfilled" and "I am generous." At first, I was a bit leery of this whole concept, which I think cries out for parody -- a more appropriate name for many of these vegan concoctions would be "I am gassy." But I ordered the daily special, which has the added advantage of sparing you from having to say one of the phrases, and found it quite tasty. It was a spicy "sushi" roll with a side salad. My apple-ginger-lime juice was also very good and virtuous.

“ I love it when I go to a restaurant and DON'T think to myself, "hmmm...I could make this." raw food always impresses me because it's not only good for you, but It really takes talent to make compltely raw food taste not just good, but delectable.
I had the live pad thai special (I am celebrating), which was crisp, yet tangy and slightly sweet. Much better than I was expecting. My latte with almond milk and cold-brewed coffee (I am loved) was just so-so, but being a coffee drinker from waaaaay back, I guess i'm just used to all the acid hot brewing produces. The key lime pie (I am awakening) with a macadamia nut crust was divine.
Ok. Let's talk about the whole 'gratitude' theme for a sec. I've scoffed at hearing the names of their dishes (all names begin with "I am...") until I walked in and saw the sign: "What are you grateful for?" Finally I got it.
Oh, and definitely not for your meat & potatoes crowd.

“ The food is raw... that means it's alive! You don't need a lot to feel complete.... I recommend the "I am lusciously awake" smoothie... made with Brazil nut milk, cacoe, vanilla, dates & figs... it's so good -and yet -you can not believe how good it is for you too.. it's all you need really.
Prices are a bit high due to the amount of time and effort... and quality ingredient that go into it... it's hard to make nut cheese and nut milk at home you know, I have tried. Go for the goodness of your spirit! Treat yourself.

“ This place is AWESOME. It typifies the reason you moved to / live in San Francisco. It does everything on its own terms., and does it excellently.
The food is ultra-creative, healthy, excellent, and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is casual, free-form, festive, and fun. Everywhere you are reminded to be thankful for the blessings in your life.
Be prepared for a different kind of eating experience. You'll share your table with friendly strangers who talk to you. You'll order items so creative, you'd never consider putting them together. It's hard to imagine how they'll taste like until you try them. But once you do, YUM.
The staff is laid-back, capable, cool, and totally friendly. They even sang "Today's Your Birthday (by the Beatles) instead of the tired old "Happy Birthday" theme.
Last night was our first time. Everyone we talked to had been there many times. In other words, most visitors come back often. What higher recommendation is there for a restaurant? ”

“ If you are into raw and at all open to new age thinking and spiritualism then you already know about Cafe Gratitude... and you love it!!!
Just walking in the door you feel the sense of Gratitude wash over you. Any stress you may be carrying instantly dissipates into the ether.
If you are a perpetual skeptic then head to "In and Out," "Fatburger," or any other fast food joint offering up servings of super saturated fat and sugar. They'll have just the fix for you. If you want to relax and feel the essence of true gratitude and feel the gratitude within yourself grow, then come hang out and sample some of the best healthy raw organic nourishment you can possibly treat yourself to.
Feel the gratitude. Share the gratitude. These guys are changing the world and I for one wish them all the best. Every neighborhood needs a Cafe Gratitude!!

“ i have to say that i am not into the raw food. but i'm giving it a neutral because even though i'm not a fan i think they did a really nice job with it and that they really love what they're doing. i just couldn't bring myself to order by the names they gave the food- i'm just not up to saying 'i'll have the 'i am' whatever." but if you have any desire to go you may as well. it's an experience. ”

“ Ok so cultists and Veggies go hand in hand. We all know this. Or do we? In SF we accept less in the way of flavor masked under the umbrella of "Health". 50 million years will tell you that we need animal fat and protein to even think. Since we have been upright our teeth have gotten shorter because we cook our food. Our teeth aren't shaped like apes teeth or like deer. Our lower intestines are different than both. Oh and our brain is even cooled differently. When something is satisfying you know the difference. Also vegans tend to behave like Nazis about food. They are a collective eating disorder, like a chior of bumbling good intentions in an off-key discordant cacophany of pea brained maniacs!
Other than that I love veggies....and remember, just because you can't hear the vegitables scream doesn't mean that their screams and pain isn't there! Sorry I am not buying this raw food crap, it will wear my teeth out! Don't do it! On principal! Oh and beer is vegan, just have a beer! ”

“ I am new to the living food scene, couple months. The first couple weeks were a little hard, a lot of cleansing and bodily changes, but immeadiately I noticed I was eating less and had a lot more energy. So newbies...stick with it, and always do whats right for you...Cafe Gratitude was by far one of the best raw/living foods restaurants I have been to since I started my new vibrant life. All of the menu items are positive affirmations and I enjoyed the raw version of a mexican dish complete with guac, salsa (which are naturally already living) and a bean dip pate' with live sour cream and tortillas. Yum! The sweetbread with live jam is excellent also. I highly highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys eating food which promotes life and nourishment! ”

“ Unless you're vegan, or just in to meet a friend for a beer, stay away. While the novelty of ordering things like "abundant" and "beautiful" make for an interesting food delivery style "you're beautiful today". But the food is dreadful. Even the nachos were made from chips that looked like they were crushed up quinoa stuck together with veg shortening. Even the salsa which should be good vegan style was miserable. And the beers we ordered came after we finished our meal. Skip it. Definitely. ”

“ I love eating at Cafe Gratitude and don't think that it is a cult at all. In fact, I had my b-day party there last year and everyone had a blast. In fact, the pic on this site is from that very b-day parteh! Yes, the food is raw/living vegan and yes, it has kooky (but wonderful) names but I adored the food, the waiters/owners/other patrons and had a blast. I've been many times and just wish that they had more decaf options and that it was a little less expensisce. My mom was visiting from Boston and I took here there and she said that it was the freshest, best salad that she'd ever had. I especially love, the "I am effervescent" housemade ginger ale and the "I am passionate" pizza. ”

“ A warning - this place is run by a cult, literally. Check out http://www.withthecurrent.com. I was brought here somewhat unwillingly by a friend who raved about it, and although I'm giving it a negative review I found the experience highly amusing. All the dishes have goofy names like "i feel wonderful", and there's a feel-good "game" available at every table. The food isn't *awful* but I really would rather eat something else unless I shared their misguided notion that cooked=bad for you. ”

“ I returned after a frustrating first (no food) impression, and was quite impressed by the intresting "raw," "live" and other healthy food options. I had a delicious "hot bowl" with whole grains topped with a melange of vegetables and a delicious sauce. My friend's daily special of a pasta-less "lasagna" was an artful creation of paper-thin wiggly sliced zucchini, and loads of other natural ingredients that made a delectable dish. Best for the adventurous, it will impress. I look forward to returning to try something new. ”
