I think the only plus factor of this restaurant is its location especially this summer where you can eat out and bask in the sun while people-watching. But the food is not that great and it is pricey. Review #21455

My friend and I liked being out in the sun at the Markerbar while having white wine and some appetizers. But when the bill came, we felt bad because the prices were just beyond what we expected, they were too high. The location is good being in the Ferry building and by the Embarcadero St., but still they are so overpriced. Review #21448

The draw to Market Bar is the vast available outside dinning. On a rare sunny day in San Francisco the patio is the perfect place to be. Great bartenders serving up perfect cocktails with a smile. Servers are on the ball, very friendly and helpful. The menu could use some reworking; the descriptions don't really adequately set diners expectations. For example, the “Tuna Bruschetta, cherry tomato salad, De Padova coratina olive oil” I thought it would be high grade raw tuna, like a tartar with an italian twist. It turned out to be a mayo (canned) tuna salad with cherry tomatoes, which just didn't work. The Tuna Daube (stew) was a mismatch; I think lamb would have been a better pairing. The stew portion was fantastic; the tuna was over cooked and dry, again I think lamb would have complemented the flavors in the stew instead. Stick with the basics, like the Heirloom Tomato Salad and the Roasted Salmon, both perfectly prepared. Enjoy! Review #16328

Had $32 price-fixe dinner with large bowl of pesto-enhanced tomato soup, 3 grilled scallops in a sweet red-wine reduction and sauteed swiss chard & shallots, and brioche bread pudding w/ vanilla ice cream dollop. Enjoyed food, but did not blow my socks off, actually I thought the coffee was probably the highlight of the meal. Received good service from a cheerful waiter, but perplexed by how the stone-cold baguette (my still tap water was warmer) was served on butcher/tissue/parchment paper on the table without bread plates. I didn't know this was a bistro. Wait staff ignored the blanket of bread crumbs over the table and kept on serving all courses without sweeping off the table. I think the locale, bar and accessibility to the financial district post-work crowd are really what's keeping this place in business. Review #14924

I went here for lunch with a friend from out of town. We both had pasta, and while we did enjoy it, it was pricey. The best thing was dessert. I had the apple crisp with ice cream and carmel. Very good. The service was a bit uptight for me but it was attentive. Review #14832

I agree with the majority of other reviewers. Go if the company is paying. Fairly unmemorable and overpriced food. Do what the rest of us do at the Ferry Building: grab some Cowgirl Creamery cheese, an Acme baguette, and a cup of Peet's coffee, then hang on the benches out back. I'll even share my basket of figs. i met someone here for an interview and it was fine. the pizza we had was okay. the carmelized onion on it was a little sweet, but didn't ruin it. the service was timely and friendly enough. i wasn't dazzled, but i thought it was alright. Review #14118

We went for lunch a month or so ago and I've taken so long to write a review because our meal was very unmemorable. We had the Crab Deviled eggs as an appetizer and that was the only thing worth mentioning in a positive light. I decided to have a glass of white wine with my lunch but was fairly unimpressed with the by the glass selection... particularly for the price. I had a pasta dish with a beschemel sauce...or at least that's what the menu called it. The sauce was so thin and so bland I would have rather just drizzled some butter and garlic over the pasta. My boyfriend had a mini pizza which wasn't bad but not worth the price or the hype. All in all we managed to spend $65 on a lunch which consisted of 5 deviled eggs, a glass of white wine, a tiny plate of pasta and a mini pizza...not worth even half the price. If you're in the area I recommend checking out some of the artisan food booths instead that are located in the ferry building and create your own picnic. Review #13057

I had lunch here on a Saturday when the Farmer's Market was going on. Although my sausage served with rabe and potatoes was okay-it would have been nice to have 2 sausages for the price they were charging. My companion's carrot soup with shrimp had just that -one shrimp! The best part of the meal was the bread. However, it wasn't even brought to the table on plate but merely laid down on a napkin. Another annoyance-the restaurant does not have its own restrooms and on Farmer's Market day that means you have to leave the restaurant and deal with the lines for the restrooms serving the entire Ferry Building. I can't imagine why I'd bother to go here again. I can pass on the option to sit outside when the view you see includes all the traffic on the Embarcadero. Review #12556

The space is boring and stuffy. The staff is stiff but effective. The food was fine but not memorable. I felt no love anywhere inside these doors. I went because taylor's had a huge a** line. Review #11863

I have eaten here three times for lunch. On a sunny day, the patio is really comfortable and a nice place to people watch. I have had the ahi tuna sandwich and it is YUMMY. It is lightly encrusted and just enough for a light lunch. Review #10409

I've given this place several tries, and it always is a horrible experience. Both the food and the service are well-below average. Every time I go there I say I won't go back. But inevitably I go back, only to have bad food and bad service once again. Unfortunately, they are one of the few outdoor restaurants in SF that gets the sun all afternoon long...that is why they are always busy, and therefore nothing changes. I wish another place would open up down there. Review #6576

I love the Ferry Building with all it's wonderful offerings(which has me going every weekend), and I was excited about the Marketbar, but the food is just merely...okay. I like the interior, the outdoor seating, the bar, but the small portions but more importantly small portions of uninteresting food disappointed. There are better options in the Ferry Building. On a warm San Francisco evening, this place is perfect to sit outdoors, drink a good french Chardonnay and enjoy a ciggy. The plates are small by American standards and for that pricy, but had good flavors. It can get a bit raucous, but is fun. Review #5704

I had the worst dining experience ever at the Market Bar. I'm sad to learn that they are still in business. Every member of the service staff was rude and couldn't be bothered to do his job. The food was so bad, I can't even re-live it. The portions were tiny. The presentation was what one would expect from fine dining at Denny's. I had to send my halibut back because it was still frozen in the middle. Gross, gross, gross! Don't be sucked in by the nice patio and great location. This place is HORRIBLE! Review #5491

Nice atmosphere with great outdoor seating in front of the Ferry Building. Prompt and attentive service although the day we went for lunch it was very busy and the orders took forever to come up. Hopefully this was an exception and not a rule. Portions are modest and prices a bit high. The food however was quite good - fresh and well prepared. Nice for business lunch. Review #2184
