“ this place was a total dissappointment. i was here for a friend's birthday party. we had reserved a section of the restaurant and ended up in a corner near the balcony doors where people were going in and out constantly to smoke. the doors were left open often and it was cold. that was a negative. the waiters were often non-existant. when they were there, they would often try to take your plates before you were done. by the end of the meal one of my friends felt the need to almost slap the waiter's hand because it was the 15th time she'd had to say she wasn't done with her plate. exasperating. the food was not worth the prices, nothing exciting. the seats and the tiny little tables were uncomfortable and not conducive to conversation or large parties. i have no plans to ever return here. ”

“
After having gone to Pasha the night before, this place was SUCH a disappointment....It's a 3 on a scale of 10. The menu looked great and interesting but the service sucked and the food mediocre at best. We ordered glasses of wine and when I asked her if the Syrah/Grenache ($9.5 I think) as good she said "it's popular." When I asked about the Zin($12) she said "It is the staffs favorite because at night we drink it for free." It took 20 minutes to arrive) and the dishes came before the wine. Gee, trying to rush us? We had the seared scallops (ah, you mean SCALLOP--one cut into four thin slices) $10 (I think) and it was good with a spoon full of mashed potatoes. I tasted sand in my first bite. Then the lamb sirloin with cherries and star cinnamon anise and it was overcooked and gamey ($16) and it came with orzo but no veggies...just 5 small pieces. We had the lamb tartare special but it was overpowered by cipriani onions in balsamic and atop three pieces of crostini ($9). Rip off ”

“ This place can get a bit loud but it is a restaurant what do you expect? The food was amazing and the service was great. The Artichokes, Tuna Tar-Tar and especially the Flank Steak were all exceptional. So thats that. I would recommend this to anyone that wants good food, drinks and service and can deal with a little bit of noise. ”

“ Was here on a Monday night right after work, so the place was nearly empty, and we were glad because it was already hard to have a conversation with anyone that was not sitting right next to you. I like the decor and the large chandelier, but it is too cavernous/warehousey feeling. Our waiter was friendly, yet seemed preoccupied, and we went for long periods of time without seeing him, even after someone requested that he come to take our food order. Since the place was no where near full, this was a definite negative. The food was OK, the pita that came with the Medjool Sampler looked & tasted exactly like the stuff you get at the store. I usually expect better specialty breads at places like this. I can open my own plastic bag. The couscous with dates was pretty good, and the pomme frittes, aka potato chips were hot and tasty and the aioli was good. Cheese plate ok, Nothing here to draw me back, as the prices were too high for quality & quantity. ”

“ Addendum: I DID go back - a friday night to meet some friends. it was absolutely shocking and I can't believe it was the same place! Horrible music, packed (with very rude young snotty rich kids) and overall just sleazy feeling. I changed my review to nuetral and not negative only because i'm trying to be fair, since the second time didn't involve food, but YUCK.
Previously:
I came on a whim with a bunch of friends and had such a fabulous time. the plates were little (and i am not a fan of having bread as a menu item you order. its bread! jeez..) but the food was really good, espcially the lamb and i dont really even eat lamb all that much. We sat in a little sitting area towards the front that was kind of away from everyone else and i wonder if my experience would have been less posative if we hadn't. it felt airy and luxurious and like we were all fabulously wealthy and carefree. could have just been the wine, but whatever - i'm going back! ”

“ Everything was great! And I'm picky! The service was almost intuitive! The timing was perfect! My friend had the green beans & I had a salad. We were both happy. Then my friend had the grilled shrimp, which were lightly spicy--they were a winner. I had the scallops in the sunchoke puree--I knew when I ordered them that I was not a sunchoke fan, and that confirmed it. The scallops needed to be partnered with something different--the puree didn't do the succulent little morsels justice. Not bad, but just sort of...bland.
For such a cavernous, warehouse type of space, it didn't seem cold. The whole place was filled with sort of a warm, gold ambiant glow. I'd go check it out again, definitely. ”

“ Had dinner for 6 here with some hipster friends from LA. We all really liked the place and had a really great time. Decor is comfy chic. Friendly staff. We all ordered different dishes and shared. The fig and lamb tagine was yummy and filling. Seared scallops was yum. Pistachio crusted halibut over braised swiss chard and garbonzos was really tasty.
And we even tried the pomegranate braised quail which was great.
We were too busy enjoying each others company and sampling the dishes to even notice the noise. Enjoying the view and a cocktail on the roof deck after dinner was almost better than the pistachio filo cigars we had for dessert.

“ Can't review the food, because I haven't eaten there yet. But I can review the bar & the atmosphere, cuz a bunch of us started out bar hopping there on Saturday.
So apparently it's a small piece of the Marina that's been transplanted to the reasonably hardcore Mission (though it'd be way more impressive if it were up near 16th). It does look nice and reasonably swank inside - big space, 2 floors with the upper being more of a balcony around a large lower area. But far & away the best part is the roof deck bar, which has a fantastic view, and enough heat lamps (and a tent) to keep it passably warm for all the chicks in their 4" heels and skimpy outfits. But the drinks, while reasonably good, are overpriced, and the atmosphere is just a little too trendy. Oh, and it didn't help that the music on the roof repeated itself within the hour we were there. Needless to say, we moved on. ”

“ This is a great new place in the mission... great food, fun atmosphere, and also has a awesome roof top! I love how the place is decorated. The Djs are great and they play a variety of international music! Great place to go out and have drinks as well as dinner... The restaurant area down stairs turns into a dance floor! Definitely a place to check out!

“ it was just ok. not impressed at all. still a good place to watch hipe/good looking people. the atmosphere was cool. however, the food in relations to the price was not exciting. sure for tapas, we know what's going on. for $50 a person? i just don't feel the food was worth the price. i've had better tapas at other places. ”

“ Two bottles of a german white, the olives, frites, sampler, house made pita, flat bread, cheese plate, tombo tuna, brined pork, bruschetta and lamb kefta--$150.00. The light fixtures were captivating. The help was unremarkable. The room was loud, but not so loud that we could not hear the PTA meeting next to us whining that the room was too loud. I can not say enough about how good the food was. It eclipsed the slacker supermodel in waiting service and moroccan cafeteria ambiance. Go for the lights, stay for the viddles. ”

“ The atmosphere is definately the highlight at this trendy/hip tapas (small dish) eatery. Reservations are highly recommended during the weekends if you plan on sitting down for dinner. However, there are plenty of people hanging out at the bar and mingling around as well. The main seating area has two floors. There is also a rooftop bar with a great view available as well (just not on rainy nights).
The food here is good, but not exceptional... and definately not a bargain. Most of the plates run over $10 and don't even think about expecting appetizer sized portions. Think appetizers divided by half. Medjool is truly a tapas/small plate restuarant.
But, with the music thumping, drinks flowing, and plenty of hip beautiful people floating about I'd recommend anyone to check this place out. Just be sure to get something to eat beforehand. ”

“ A unique roof top spot great for cocktails and having fun. The main dining room has great ambiance and an alluring feel. However to food was not exceptional and the service not good. I'd go again for the roof top fun, but I'll spend my money dining else where ”

“ I was only able to eat at the roofdeck and it has an amazing view. I talked to the person who was grilling the skewered meats and he suggested that we order the sampler platter to try the various meats and a sampler of the hummus, tahini platter. He was soooo on the money. I specifically loved the chicken (comes slathered in a spicy sauce) and the pork. We loved it! ”

“ Medjool has a very nice atmosphere and the food is supertasty. It's a great place to go to with a group of friends. It also has a pretty big roofdeck with elevator access with panoramic city views and even views of the bay bridge. People normally hang out up there and order cocktails and stuff. definitely check it out! ”

“ This is a great place for a party! The tapas were very tasty and the sangria was one of the best I've had (not too sweet). The mezzanine level is a fun place and has its own outside area for smokers or to just hang outside. The rooftop bar is great too. I will definitely go back just for that. ”

“ I went here with a large group for a birthday party. I very much enjoyed the middle eastern and hip atmosphere, especially the terrace area upstairs. It kind of has a miami vibe. The tapas were tasty, but way too expensive. We ended up paying about $45 each for just a couple of dishes. I would rather go there for drinks next time. ”

“ A relatively new addition to the increasingly hip and gentrified Mission. Located next door to Foreign Cinema, Medjool is a hip new restaurant/bar. It's located in a huge and well decorated space and provides lounge, bar and dinner seating. Medjool offers small plates priced from $5-$13. The food was definitely good but not spectacular and I felt that many items were pretty pricey for what you got. In addition to the full menu and seating options downstairs, Medjool also boasts an awesome and very popular rooftop scene. Take the elevator to the "Penthouse" where you'll find a large rooftop tent with two bars, seating and heat lamps. The roof provides a great view of the City and a "Scewers" only menu is offered. ”

“ I brought in a group of ~20 with only a couple days notice, so the mezzanine (ideal for groups) was full, but the staff did their best to accommodate us. We took over the front "lounge" area which worked well for our assorted drinks/tapas needs and allowed our group to mingle. The food was good and rooftop site is cool (though it has a separate skewer-focused menu). ”

“ Highly recommended! The service was prompt and attentive without feeling rushed. The menu is diverse and innovative. Try the apricot baklava for dessert - it is amazing! Nice bar with lounge area. The restaurant is very spacious which was refreshing with so many places in the area being cramped and tight. Be aware when you order that these are small plates. Truly the finest mid-eastern place I've been to in SF! ”

“ Love it! Located a few doors down from Foreign Cinema, this Mission gem is both fun and tasty. The menu is organized by mediterranean region with North african as well as southern european style small plates. The Fried sumac-dusted calamari, red onions & lemons with aioli was incredible. The grilled hanger steak with harissa and sauteed spinach as well as the Fig and Lamb Tagine were rich and delightful. And even the pomme frites starter that was dusted with parsley and laced with preserved lemon were possibly the best fries I've has in SF. The wine list is affordable of limited. The cocktails are inventive as well. This is the new mission spot to meet your friends, sit on couches and enjoy sharing some wonderful small plates... ”

“ This newer Mission restaurant has gained acclaim and fast! Its warm and beautiful space is inviting. The tapas are larger than the usual small plate. Try the flank steak or the bastilla to start. You won't be disappointed. If you have a wait, head to the penthouse up the elevator for a city skyline view. You may become addicted to this place. Also they have a fresh lunch selection with great coffees. ”

“ This is the new happening place in SF. It is beautifully decorated and very warm. The small plate medditaranean dishes are great for a full dinner or just appetizers with drinks. I highly recommend this place. ”
