“I live near here so I eat here every so often, but I have to admit it's nothing special and there are many better places around. I love tonkatsu and their's is OK. I'm not a huge sushi fan but I do like the vegetarian maki (kappa, oshinko etc) and their's are OK--again, nothing special. The place used to give off a smell of rancid grease from the fryers in the kitchen but in recent years this seems to have abated.”
“The caterpillar and dynamite rolls are good. Sukiyaki was a little bland, as were the noodles. Clean, pleasant and friendly. Oh Jesus--don't get me started about whatever the hell green tea ice cream they are serving. It is cheaper than Zoloft, only 160 calories per serving, and full of fiber. We treat them like some kind of Baskin Robbins. All they want is for us to want their hamaci.”
“Opera Plaza sushi is a great place to go for sushi in Civic Center. I highly recommend their Super California Roll. If you go during peak hours for lunch, it is kind of crowded. The service could use a little work, they are not as attentive as I would like (especially since I am there during my lunch hour). But the sushi is absolutely awesome. ”
“Absolutely the worst sushi I've had in SF. Seriously. The fish was anything but fresh, and the presentation was indeed sloppy (as mentioned in another review). Granted, I did violate the "never-eat-sushi-on-Sunday" rule, but still. I haven't tried the non-sushi items there, but given that I live upstairs from the place I may be giving them a second chance. Stay tuned :-)”
“Ok sushi... I guess I'm picky with asian food, but I thought the rice wasn't the right consistency. sushi rice is supposed to stick together, but their rice wasn't tightly wrapped together. This made the presentation look sloppy (which is super important for japanese food). Taste-wise, it wasn't mindblowing. For the price, I could find better elsewhere.”
“This is a very dependable japanese restaurant near the Opera House and Symphony Hall. All the standard japanese dishes along with sushi. Prices are affordable and the staff is congenial. I recommend reservations if you are going when the cultural events are on or you could be shut out. ”
