“ Pee-eww, smells like dive bar! That was our initial experience and first impression. However, your nose gets used to it and no longer does it smell like stale beer. So, yes, I've had many a good Guinness and Boddington's here but this time I actually ate something. Good ole' Irish comfort food! Fish and Chips with coleslaw and thick cut fries, Beef and Barley soup, Bangers and Mash, Cottage Pie (I know it as Sheppard's). Also a selection of burgers and sandwiches. Service was attentive and quick for our table of 8 ppl and food was decent, more so on the good side. I was impressed as I've read that the food can be average. ”

“ I actually really like the atmosphere there - very low key. The food is okay, nothing to write home about, but they don't mind a bunch of "kids" showing up to relax and enjoy themselves for a little while after school or work or whatever - no pressure to pay and leave. Servers are always really nice. Definitely not authentic. ”

“ Food is average. Beer is, well, beer. The only reason I am giving it a neutral score is that I saw a drag queen sing Johnny Cash. Her voice was deeper than mine. VERY impressive ”

“ I LOVE a good Irish pub! Unfortunetly I don't really think this is one of them. The food is OK...pretty standard American themed Irish food. Service the several times I've been there is very inconsistant. I once waited 15 mins sitting at the almost empty bar until I walked out. Also I think its location in Union square invites a lot more tourists than locals ---locals always make an irish pub more enjoyable. Not a bad place by any means...just not high on the fun-o-meter. ”

“ Johnny Foley's is a huge Irish Pub where there are many different areas for a private party. Irish Pub grub type fare with lots of pictures of famous Irishers in history, maps and just a general feel that you're not in SF anymore. Festive atmosphere, sometimes you have to elbow you way past the bar to the dining area. service friendly and competant. their theme is "it's time for a pint" ”
