“
Great tasting eclectic beer selection and terrific french fries. I love that they focus on local food sources and quality meats (which my wife loves), but I wish they'd have a quality veggie burger too - because as a vegetarian I'm left with few options beyond the roasted beet salad (which is great). Fun city atmosphere, though don't expect to hear each other unless you get a booth (noisy). ”

“ Great food. They use high quality ingredients such as Niman Ranch bacon, Prather Ranch grass-fed beef, and pastured eggs from Marin Sun Farms. Pub or not, this is some of the healthiest food you can get at a restaurant. ”

“
love the decor, interesting paintings all around make you feel you are part of a magic book. I ordered the egg frittata which was well prepared and had a nice delicate flavor to it. My husband had their special potatoes which he claimed being delicious. Love their blue mounting coffee even though can be expansive, a large pot (two cups) is 6 dollar. I will definitely go back to try their dinner menu and famous beers ”

“
Yummy organic! Not enough seating for the business. The food is great the service is too. organic chicken and well prepared salad. They know what's up. The beer is also delicious. It is hard to park around, it's tough to get into on weekends. Very Hippy Viby! Very good food. Worth the wait and the parking. One of the best pubs to eat at I have ever been too. Go for the food and the beer...stay for more beer! You will like it. Moderate pricing. Hip and tasty. Take your mom, she'll think you are grown up and if she was a Hippy (mine was) it will take her back.
MILES OF SMILES! With food like this, there could be another "Summer of Love".
Tell'm TJ Walkup and SFSURVEY.COM SENT YOU! ”

“ I've eaten at Magnolia repeatedly... the beers are magnetic. They have a long list of homebrews, and they always have several cask ales, which some may call warm and flat but I call delicious. The Cole Porter and the Stout of Circumstance are favorites. As for the food, it may be a little pricey for a pub, but it's still good. The burger is always great, as is the cheese plate. And if you want a snack, the deep-fried anchovie-stuffed olives are unbeatable! ”

“ I finally tried Magnolia's, although I have walked by it time upon time. It is a perfect spot for some good eats in a nice environment in the Haight, but the menu never intrigued me and I don't drink beer. I ordered the duck confit salad. The description read, "with mixed chicory lettuces, walnuts and plumped sour cherries." Ducks must have been scarce, because after poking through the prickly frise lettuce (which is very trendy lately and honestly has bit of a Brillo Pad feeling), I noticed what looked like tiny, miniscule slivers of duck jerky! The walnuts turned out to look and taste a lot like crushed almonds, in equally scarce and mouse sized piece (meaning meant for a mouse, rather than the size of one). The plump cherries, were not plump, unless they were before the one or two were minced prior to being tossed in the salad. The small piece of duck bone that I bit into did little to help the vinegary tasting dressing. So, I conclude its all about the beer. ”

“ Popped in here with my mum last week as I was playing tourist with her. We had the fries with 3 sauces---hand cut---very nice. Also tried the parmasean and salami app---it was decent. I had a great beer and she loved thier homemade orange soda. Cute spot, decent prices...will try again. ”

“ Overrated.
Often, Magnolia has a rank smell to it, which I know from living around the corner for a year. I've eaten there three times and had the same meal three times (salmon burger) because nothing else ever sounded or looked good. It's glorified British pub food, and we all know the Brits aren't exactly exaulted for their gastronomics.
I always wanted Magnolia to have great food because the atmosphere seems like it could bolster that. But it just doesn't.
The beers are good. That's about it. ”

“ Good beer, good food. I really enjoy the lamb dishes here. The warm spinach salad with flank steak is a very nice salad to share with another person if you're having sandwiches. The brunch on the weekends is pleasant as well. I would stay away from their organic fruit. It tends to be out of season and bland. Simple dishes like sandwiches and pizzas are quite good.
It's a good neighborhood spot. Go on the off hours since it's small and seating/service can be spotty. Look for the sign on the wall that tells you if you can seat yourself (when it's slow) or if there's a waitlist at the bar.
I have never had any of the waitstaff be less than helpful and kind to me and my family. I often go there with my 8-year old son and they are very amenable to all sorts of odd requests. ”

“ Magnolia is a must try..I have been and enjoyed the brews but the food is really where my interest lies..recently we tried the Eggplant soup and Snapper ..both were great. The food is homestyle with a really interesting twist, you can tell they invest effort into their menu..as well as the beer. I also love the character ..stained glass, old tiled floors and tall wooden booths are lovely..lots of window tables too. The service I find efficient without too many frills. Definitely check it out. ”

“ You should go there for the beer. The Haight is a cool place, just remember to get your tattoos before going to Magnolia's because they're against drinking and inking.
Excellent brews from their own brewmaster with a generous selection of guest beers. As many as 5, count 'em - FIVE cask conditioned beers at a time. If you're a cask conditioned junkie, you know there's an art to getting the beer right. Magnolia's does them as well as a British pubmaster.
The burgers are perfect for a beer lunch. Refreshingly basic decor. Grateful Dead mural around the ceiling is bright and hip, booths are clean and plain, lots of windows to watch the Street. The bartgenders and waitstaff seem to like working there and will banter if you like or leave you alone if you'd rather.
I think I'll go back today!

“ I've walked by this place a hundred times, and finally walked in- boy am I glad I did! It's a brew pub so the menu has standard fare, but it's haight street, so they serve "free range buffalo wings" :)
I saw dates there, groups of friends, and even families with small children. It's a perfect environment for a simple casual dinner.
The beers are british style (cask brewed) and task really authentic, but I had the home brewed orange creme soda (no orange food coloring, but all the flavor).
I will absolutely return. ”

“ Food is good (not the best fries), desserts mediocre (creme brule was cold), very loud inside, and the servers work very hard at their attitudes to get the tables turned.
I was told that I shouldn't have been seated if my guest wasn't going to arrive, (it took her 5 min to walk in the door), even though I placed an order and had a tab at the bar. I saw another server promptly tell another table it was time for them to exit since they were finished, and saw another server throw a fit because a 4-top sat themselves.
Won't visit there again. ”

“ Great locally brewed beer. In addition to basic pub fare, they have the most amazing macaroni and cheese I have ever had. Lots of cheese and bread crumbs basked on top -- always enough for 2 meals. The wait staff is mellow and wonderful. Can get crowded and the "wait list" system does not always run smoothly. ”

“ Great neighborhood brew pub. Good beer and consistently good food, which is a cut above the standard greasy pub fare. Service not always as consistent as the food, especially if it's busy. Just grab a beer and enjoy the atmosphere.
P.S. If you're looking for barbeque, their sauce is a little too sweet. ”

“ Good food, good beer, not pretentious. Actually my husband has the beer, I usually get the fresh lemonade. EDIT: The menu has changed and I'm not so fond of it anymore, though my husband still really likes the beer. For an appetizer, try the deep-fried, anchovy-stuffed olives. ”
