I've eaten at Chutney only twice, with an indian friend of mine, and I can see why he recommends it. It is by far the best indian food I've had, in SF. Their curries are complex, savory, and just spectacular in flavor. The chicken tikamasala is so moist and lovely in color and taste. This place will, for sure, tickle your taste buds and fix your craving for good indian food. The only drawback is the hood. Review #21394

It was a disappointment, after reading all the good reviews: The lamb curry and chicken korma were mostly bones and fat. In case you want to try this restaurant, perhaps the boneless Chicken Tikka Masala might be a better choice. Review #17972

Yeah... the food here is hella good. Oh, but you have to bring your own beer. Everything I had there was good-saag paneer, the nans, I forgot what chicken dishes we ordered, but the were all good. I doubt that I'll ever have something there that I don't like. They can also accommodate large parties (10+), and that's always good to know, and we didn't even have to wait that long. Cheap prices and good food, always an excellent combo Review #17414

i used to watch my friends shop downtown and get lunch to go at chutney's. one big carton of channa masala and one fat piece of naan and im stuffed for the next 6 hours. all for 5 bucks! one of my favorite indian (or is it pakistani? well, south asian anyway) joints in the City. Review #16859

Popped in to share a quick snack with my brother who has never tried indian food before. We shared the chicken vindaloo and a ground beef stuffed Nann. The vindaloo was nice, not too greasy and fresh tasting...not very spicy though. The Naan on the other hand was really spicy...very very tasty indeed. Service was quick and efficeint. Would try again Review #16408

My indian friend brought me here so I knew it must be good. She did all the ordering and that was fine with me. I'll have to say the Tandoori Chicken was very good. I will have to try more things on the menu next time. Review #15352

Again, im not a big fan of indian food, the reason i went there was because i was invited by some friends. They already ordered by the time i got there, so i tried some of the dish they ordered and i kinda liked it. The place was packed when i was there, seems like people love that place. Review #12221

I hate to say it, but this place is better than Naan and Curry - The food is more spicy and the chicken seems much higher quality compared to N & C. I recommend the Paneer Tikka Masala, and Garlic Naan! Review #10056

Wow. Read other reviews and decided to check it out. We were staying at the O'Farrell Hilton so a quick walk. Stopped in at 7 on Saturday the 27th and grabbed one of the last tables. Service was pretty quick - the two of us had the lamb curry (sooo tender and spiced just right), peas with paneer (incredible, the cheese just melted away), a couple of naan (super fresh out of the cooker) and a tandoori chicken leg (good, but clearly the weakest link). Dinner with tip came to $19. $19!!! I had to eat uncomfortably quickly as my companion was inhaling everything. Neighborhood is sketchy but not scarily so. Lots of people coming in for take-away. Good mix of all ethnicities. I'll be back - so many more dishes to try. Review #9101

A little slow on bringing out our food, but the order taker explained that they had just taken a lot of take out orders just before we came in. Looked like he was right too. Ordered tandoori Fish which is frankly just plain delicious. Also tried the Prawn masala which was ok but relatively mild and slightly bland. My Nan came out super fresh and hot and was great. A plate of rice was quite good. The restaurant gives you a small salad with your meal. Overall a good restaurant with quality food and low prices. Review #9033

If my final hour was to be spent eating one each of Chutney's tikka masala, palak paneer and bangun bharta, and I then walked out the door, only to be shanked by a crack addict and pushed under the bald tires of a careening taxi, I would only be able to think to myself in my last moments that I just had the most incredible meal, and if it was my time to go, then at least I will be going having known what it is like to have just had the best meal, ever. I tried this place after reading the reviews here. I'm a huge fan of cheap indian food, and I must say it's now my fav indian in the Tenderloin area. The place is definitely cleaner than most, and the food was great. The naans are HUGE! As big as a small/medium pizza! And the food wasn't covered in a thick layer of oil like Naan 'N Curry.
