I can't compare Marcello's to NY pizza because I have never had it but I can compare it to my little 80 year old silver haired Sicilian mother's pizza... Once I got passed the guilt of eating take out pizza (when she heard she rolled her eyes skyward, wrung her hands and muttered 'vergogna' about 50 times while walking out of the room...) I actually enjoyed it even if it is not as good as ma's home made. We ordered two large- 1 cheese and the other sausage/mushroom all over and on one half peppers and olives. The cheese pizza was a little frisbee like but the kiddies liked it. The dressed was gorgeous looking but I think it needs the pungent flavor of peppers and olives to give it more flavor. It might need a further kick of some hot pepper. It arrived hot and fast. The driver was nice and the gal who took my phone order was very sweet and helpful. For a quick convenient meal I would definitely order it again. Review #20869

i really enjoyed the pizza, but, yes, the waitstaff were not the most pleasant. but as long as the pizza keeps coming as good as it was the other day, i don't care whether or not the staff thinks the customers are a pain. Review #18359

I have to give Marcello's the gray blob of neutrality. On the one hand, the pizza is generally really good, especially the pesto. On the other hand, the overall Marcello's experience is not so pleasant. When I was in there the other night, the tables were filthy, the music was ear-splitting, and the staff seemed to regard the customers as a nuisance. (How can you horse around behind the counter if people are constantly coming up to order things?) Best get take-out. Review #17746

The best NY style pizza in SF by far!!! I am originally from NJ/NY and after 2 1/2 years here, I have finally found pizza that tastes almost as good as NY pizza. My friend from Brooklyn just moved here and recommended it too. I only had the cheese and pepperoni so I am not sure about all the other toppings. So those of you who know and have been searching for a NY slice, look no further. You have to try this place hands down. Arinell in Mission is good too but this is better. Review #17216

Great pizza, with a more unique selection than most. Parking is non-existent, so you'll need to have one person run in to get it while the other drives around the block, but it's worth the hassle. Review #15610

A great location for a slice on the go and a great BBQ chicken pizza for delivery. Not my favorite crust but ingredient are always fresh and tasty. I prefer ultra thin Roma crispy crust and lots of great interesting ingredients. Marcello's in medium dish and a little doughy. Review #12084

My friend brought me here, saying that have the best slice, and I think that it was pretty good. What caught my eye was the potato slice - it had green onions and cheddar cheese. I was pretty full from movie popcorn I'd had earlier, so I took my slice to go. I went home, and couldn't wait to eat it - heated it up right away. delicious. Thin crust. I will definitely go back. They definitely have good pizza here and they are reasonably priced- don't gouge you on the drinks. I remember the first kind of pizza I had here it was so tasty. A great tangy sauce and chewy crust with very abundant mozarella and spinach as the added topping. Very good indeed. They will tell you what is right out of the oven and they keep at a pretty busy clip so I think you'll have a fresh slice when you visit. I almost always end up having at least two slices. Open late to take advantage of the nocturnal nature of the Castro and the bar crowd. As previous posters have said it is a nice laid back place that is excellent for people watching with the front window seating. Review #11267

Marcello's simply put is the best pizza on the planet. It is a must for any visit to San Francisco. You can't beat grabbing a couple slices, a beer and then grab a seat by the window and watch the fun go by on Castro Street. Review #8931

Marcello's is in my neighborhood, so I've been coming here for years. The service is always efficient, it's open late, and the pizza rocks. The crust is crispy, chewy, cheesy, good quality cheese, none of that fatty mozzarella junk they put on low quality pizza, with plenty of tomato sauce, and toppings that are fresh and creative. Try their vegetarian slices or the hawaiian pizza with ham and pineapple. Add some red pepper flakes, and it's delicious! Review #8430

I love the hawaiian. Great pizza in the Castro. Recently enjoyed the thick slice - yummy - right out of chicago....Hey how did Chicago get to be so popular in their pizza making skills. Anyways - try out Marcellos, you'll like it too...Next time, I think I'll try the chicken-pesto. Review #7219

I've never eaten there, but have had friends pick up a hot slice for me. I found the NY style pizza with a perfect crust and great toppings...they need to open one closer to downtown or SOMA since we don't have great pizza choices. Review #6174

Best pizza in the Castro according to most, at least as good as Nizario's (but more NY style, where Nizario is a deeper crust) and MUCH better then Escape to NY. Lots of topping choices, solid all around. Review #5200

Based on the reviews here, I headed over to Marcello's last night expecting something wonderful. What I got was a good slice of pizza, but not the best in the city. There's really not a lot to say. pizza is just cheese, sauce and bread, right? My take was that I would have liked the sauce a little saltier and the crust a little more thin. Marcello's comes close though. It was a good slice, which is why it deserves a Positive rating, but my favorite is still Escape From New York on Haight. Marcello's might be a better place if you want a calzone, which EFNY does not make. Review #4342

Marcello's has tasty pizza and the best window to watch the Castro from. pop in as a surprise treat to yourself, or take a friend from out of town for a quick bite. I love Marcello's at night because the people watching is best then. There are only a few seats, however. The only think I don't like are the paper plates. It seems that the lifespan of a plate should be longer then two minutes. Review #2506
