Good pizza, but not such a nice environment to hang out.

Neutral Cuisine: Sushi Japanese Lower Haight
My bf and I were craving sushi on a late Sunday afternoon and the usual Mission spots we hit up were not open yet so on his recommendation we came here. He is a vegetarian, so there are definatly options. It is also nice that when you order three different types of rolls you get free miso soup and this yummy tofu salad that consists of grilled tofu, mung beans, cucumber and this light delicious dressing. I wasn't a huge fan of the sushi I had.. my California rolls had browning avocado.. which I just thought was not very appetizing. I probably wouldn't go back here when I am in the neighborhood, but if you live nearby I would maybe try the non- sushi items- bento boxes seemed like a good deal! Review #19106

We chose this restaurant for their multiple items on the entree menu, not for their sushi. Our meal came with tofu salad and miso soup. The miso soup was average, and good. The tofu salad consisted of two pieces of lightly grilled tofu, slices of pickled cucumber, mung bean sprouts, and shreds of pickled daikon. It was quite yummy, and light. I ordered the yakisoba noodles. The dish I was served looked quite different than the yakisoba I was used to eating when I lived in Japan as a kid (Navy brat). The noodles looked like ramen noodles, not the skinny, dark yellow noodles I was used to. However, my dish was flavorful, and the veggies were crisp and fresh. The katsu curry don my husband had was not too oily, and there were nice chunks of potato and carrot in the curry. A nice touch to this place is that the japanese curry is vegetarian. Almost all other japanese restaurants that serve curry, serve the kind that have beef stock in the sauce. Staff was busy, but attentive. Review #17904

i like going to hanabi for their delicious, moderately-priced bento boxes. they have about 10-12 items to choose from but i usually go for the shrimp and vegetable tempura, vegetable gyoza, and stir-fried tofu. the tempura can get a little greasy so i usually discard the standard vegetables in favor of the more expensive shrimp. the vegetable gyoza is good but i suspect it's not made in-house and is previously frozen. and finally, the stir-fried tofu is delicious! i like to dump my bowl of rice into it and smother is with its spicy, somewhat sweet sauce. Dear God! In a city with this much good sushi, there's no excuse for the bland, dry, tasteless mounds that this place serves up. Don't go here, unless you're starving and only planning to eat miso and rice. Review #12342

After game 7 of the NBA finals I needed to go somewhere to lift my spirits and thought Sake and sushi would do the trick. I was already in the Lower Haight so stopped at Hanabi. I had been here a couple times before and thought it was OK, nothing great. This last trip was awesome! The Albacore was so tender, as was the Salmon. The Unagi in the catapiller roll also incredible. Don't know if things have changed for the better here or if I just lucked out and got extremely fresh fish. I will definately be back to find out! i'm no sushi pro, especially cause i tend to shy away from raw fish. however at hanabi there are lots of RAD choices for people who like sushi but are not fond of fish. my friends and i really love this place. the food is very reasonably priced and always fresh. try the shinya roll, it is totally tops. also, if you get three rolls you get a free miso soup and small tofu salad. what a tasty deal! Have been going there for almost ten years now. Always had great sushi and super fresh sushimi. Their "dinner box" special is amazing value. You can leave feeling full without spending a fortune. Service has always been warm and friendly. In spite of all this, we also never seem to have a problem with seating either. Now, if only parking in the neighborhood could improve....! Review #2586
