Moderatly busy this neighborhood hang out serves up mediocre food with sub par service. A tad loud, one has to shout the order to the waitstaff and pray that they heard it right the first time. Our drinks came out, lackluster, obviously thrown together without much effort. We requested a return for more Roses' lime, which by the time it returned (as punishment) had diluted into something resembling limeaid. The menu is cajun inspired, but lacks the spice and kick that cajun food is known for. They serve up a "safe" substitute not to offend someone who thinks black pepper is too spicy! The only saving dish was the okra which was passable and not to greasy. The bitter collard greens where horrible, what are usually flavorful greens with some body where overcooked mushy and bitter. The place is pricy for what you get, lousy to horrible attitude to the point where it appears people do not enjoy working there! Not happy campers. Parking also non existent! Review #17888

Elite was closed for many months for a face lift, and I find the results very mixed. They did a wonderful job on the decor - the place looks beautiful - but the menu is missing many of the the items that drew me there time and again (especially at brunch). They also took away the TV, which I think is so unfortunate - it used to be a great place to have a drink or a meal while watching a game. They also seem to be missing some of my favorite staff members - the folks there now could use some training on efficiency and friendliness. I really miss the old Elite :( Review #11069

went here for a valentine's dinner w/ my bf a few years ago. it was SO crowded and loud we could hardly hear each other when we talked. we wanted to get a booth, but the wait would've been like 30min, so we had dinner at the bar. i had the salmon which was good. my bf had their gumbo and well it wasn't all that. service wasn't up to par clientle was a bit snooty--well what do you expect, it's the pacific heights! This place has a fun, classic atmosphere (lots of wood and brass and lots of well heeled, pretty people), the entree portions are generous, the food is well seasoned (rich sauces, fresh seafood, and thick, tender cuts of meat). The drinks were good but expensive. The service was friendly, but not very attentive. Try to get a booth. Though the menu is a little pricey, I think it's the best cajun food in SF and the meals are tasty and very filling. Take a cab or factor in a half hour or so for parking. Review #8712

I liked the atmosphere, it's quite unique and unexpected. The food was good, not bad and not "Wow". So-so. I suppose it's a tad pricey for so-so food. My friend loved it though, she had a thick cut of pork chop that looked delicious to the bone. I won't recommend it, but I won't tell you to run to it either. Sorry, I'm not usually this neutral with my reviews. I guess you have to check it out yourself. Oh, the oysters were great! Ok, that part I would recommend. Review #8596

Popped in here for a quick brunch stop before a meeting, it was one of the only places that didn’t have a wait on a Sunday afternoon on Fillmore. I liked the look of vintage booths, very private but not so comfortable. I had the Cesar salad with spicy prawns, not really authentic cajun fair but pretty good, not great. My friend had the crab cake eggs benedict with potatoes, which looked good. My experience here was pretty neutral not bad but nothing outstanding. Review #8281

Went in for some drinks and apps. Oysters were alright. Asked the bartender for Kettle up and told him I liked it with an icecap on top. He shook the tin 3 times and poured it in my glass, not what I come to expect from a restaurant called Elite. Haven't been back since. Review #8159

Geez...promotersf must have been there the same night as myself. I started off having a really great waiter (Dave) and he was amazingly helpful and friendly but was just getting off his shift. Tried the gumbo and BBQ shrimp and an oyster shooter. The gumbo was OK...nothing fantastic...lacking in spice. The peel & eat BBQ shrimp were very tasty and very messy---loved the sauce. The oyster shooter (which we had to re-order cuz they forgot about it) was awful. When Dave handed us over to the bartender for the rest of our meal we were ignored. We finally decided that the food wasn't good enough to warrant waiting around to find out if we were ever going to get service. We finally got her attention to get the check---which she seemed really irriated about...and we ended up giving it back to Dave---even though he was off shift as bartender girl never came back. She was AMAZINGLY rude when she dropped off the change. I WOULD have considered trying it again---but she has ruined that more me. Review #7722

The Elite Cafe dishes up cajun adequately...Had the gumbo, oyster shooters, and the BBQ shrimp. The gumbo was nice but could have used a little more spice, the oyster shooters needed help, but the BBQ shrimp was very tasty if messy. I didn't get a chance to get to the main entrees because the bartender/waitress was doing such a POOR job that I didn't want to suffer through any more subpar service. I've never encountered a waitstaff that obviously didn't like her job, or was any good at it. She was so listless and oblivious to everyone waiting for drinks at the bar let alone eating at the bar. Prior to getting stuck with her, the waiter we had was great...in fact after we got our bill, we made sure that our tip went to him(Dave) even though he was off. Review would have generated a Neutral, I hate to bash a restaurant...but when you get service this poor, it affects the overall review. Review #7720

The Elite Cafe has very tasty cajun-creole food. Slightly pricey, but worth it. Not sure how authentic some might consider the cuisine but I was happy with everything that I tried. The "BBQ'd shrimp" appetizer, served in a cast iron pan, is excellent. Review #3956
