“ I had reservations but waited over an hour just to get a table. I felt squashed sitting in a table with three of my friends. It took over 20 minutes to get a menu. The steak and chocolate cake I had was very good. I would love to give this a positive review but the service was really bad. ”

I ate at Ruth's Chris last night and I was pretty excited since some one was treating me :) I will give the service a very positive remark and the food was good but the taste and the price didn't match. ”

“ Ruth's Chris Steak House, with us
The steak at Ruth's Chris is supposed to be unparalled, but infact it was not that impressive and overly buttered. If it is a US Prime cut - then why all the need for so much butter. The sides are not that big and you have to pay $8-10 for each, which end up costing near 20-25 dollars for two people just for some potatoes and unimpressive spinich! The price is very high, and admittedly the meat is good quality, but I dont think I'll be coming back anytime soon - just too much money for food that didnt really impress me (my check was $125 w/ tip, the steaks being roughly ~$45 a piece). ”

“
I haven't been here for a while and there's a good reason why: It just wasn't memorable. The food was ok, for sure, but in San Francisco where there's a gazillion options to dine out, would you really want to go back to nyeh?
The sides were unimaginative but the steak was good. If you really want a great steak, go to Tangerine! ”

“ With a room full of intimate, empty, out of the way two-tops, why were we sat at the one nearest the kitchen? I was intrigued by the seafood spec with vegetable 'melody' offered by the Mel's grade server, but I hear this place is all about the steak, so it was Fred Flintstone time. The bread was good. The chopped salad was forgettable. The steak house salad looked very fresh and my guest enjoyed it. The baked potato was big enough for two. The petite filet was excellent, as was the T-bone, but it wasn't really all that. I guess my expectations were a little lofty, but I know I've had better steak in the city. While eating, the tables around us had turned, and suddenly two tables were trying to out F-bomb each other. Normally that wouldn't be such a big deal, but spending my meal ducking the much hyped 500 degree plates flying from the kitchen, it was just another annoyance. The upside was watching a runner with a full tray in one arm keep it there as his stand jammed him in the jewels. ”

“
Yum! My boyfriend took me here on my first night back from being away at home. The service was great and the steak was very good. I had the filet mignon. My only side dish was the asparagus but it was super good too, probably because it came with a hollandaise sauce which I had never thought to pair with asparagus before but the combo was awesome! ”

“ They are very consistent and the food is great. I have been to most of the steakhouses around the city and for some reason I always keep going back to Ruth's Chris. I don't feel that it is overpriced, it is what it is, you get a large piece of meat, ala cart sides and a decent wine selection. In the world of chain steakhouses, their steak is very tasty (because they cook it in butter) and the size is what you would expect for the price. If you are looking for a great experience and do not splurge on expensive meals often, you probably should check out one of the more local genuine/exotic SF steakhouses but if you are looking for a good piece of steak with classic sides, Ruth's Chris is the place to go. ”

“ This place serves an overpriced steak that has been bathed in liquid butter and salt. Which, of course, is tasty. The sides are good, the atmosphere is alright but for some reason dining in a chain this large paying these prices makes me feel somewhat strange.

“ Another YES! vote from a guy who dislikes Corp chain restaurants. Juicy & flavorful steak, great potato. Good quality liquor drinks. Small clubby decor & atmosphere. Feels like a high end golf course restaurant. You almost expect to see the mature patrons light up cigarettes after the big meat meal - Ah the good ol' days, I am getting old! I've eaten here just once. I don't frequent the steak places much. I've got the big gas Weber in my backyard, and for the 4 times a year I crave cow flesh, I'll cook Costco's most expensive cut myself. Got say that Ruth Chris does a better job than me. Succulent buttery flavor, nice satisfying mouth feel while chewing. I ate it all up and was very full afterwards. Protein overload. Next time I'll fast for a day before going again so I can really relish the meal. ”

“ The meats here are the best. Steaks are served on a super hot plate (don't touch it! i made that mistake even after being warned by the waiter). The perfectly cooked piece of meat sits in a small pool of butter. I've had the cowboy ribeye and the petite filet, both great. The salads and sides are also good. The carmelized banana custard tart is one of the best desserts I've ever had, very smooth, not too sweet, and pretty big portion. Service is great, and the house bread comes with whipped butter! ”

“ Loved it, the Steak was tender and perfect. The Yams were awsome, but I really wanted to just eat as much steak as possible. Asparagus side was ok. It does look like a place where lawyers would go for dinner though, and the waitstaff has memorized things that they rattle off to you if you haven't been there before. But our drinks were always full and empty plates taken away. ”

“ Tried Ruth CHris just last week for the very first time. Tried the dine about town special. It was good but nothing amazing. Salad was good but the steak was not as good as I expected---I'm guessing thats because it was the 'Special". I'm sure I'll try the real deal at some point but not in a huge hurry . ”

“ The service is decent... nothing I would gush about. Everyone puts on a fake smile... blah blah blah. But, the steaks here really are good. I know good steak and this place has it. So, if you got the extra dough and are desparately craving for a good steak... I'd highly reccommend this place. The steaks come a la carte... that means you have to order any sides dishes you want separate. The mushrooms and yams are terrific... the ceasar salad not so great. ”

“ I love good old Ruth's. How can you go wrong with a filet mignon cooked a true medium rare and that's served sizzling hot with butter on top?! Yes, I know my arteries are getting clogged up but this is not an everyday meal. I love the lyonnaise potatoes, the sweet potatoes and the creamed spinach. I like Ruth more than Morton's even though some of my friends prefer Morton's. I will have to say that I prefer eating at the Walnut Creek location because it isn't as busy and we had a bad time when we ate at the SF location one time (they didn't cook my husband's porterhouse right and instead of starting over, they put it back on the grill and it came out like leather... I actually had to complain to get it for free) ”

“ We dined there last night for my birthday. It was delightful. We found the service to be friendly. We started with the crab-stuffed mushroom tops with Romano cheese, which were deliciously rich. Then we split the chop salad - it had a bleu cheese lemony basil dressing and so many good ingredients. mY T-bone and my boyfriend's cowboy rib eye were cooked to medium-rare perfection. And with the cheesey au gratin potatoes and complimentary birthday glass of Port, it was a wonderful meal. The wine list is 10 pages long. The only drawback is that we were seated in a booth near the bar - it wasn't horrible, but there were better tables. ”

“ If you like sizzling steaks on a sizzling platter and choice steaks, you will like Ruth Chris. It is a nice steakhouse. I prefer Morton's and Alfred's but many of my friends like Ruth Chris better. You won't go wrong eating here. ”

“ I was never a big fan of steak until I had it here. Amazing. delicious. Cooked perfectly and sizzling in butter...
Don't expect "presentation". The food isn't tall or decorated, it's just good, really good, and portions are generous enough to share. It's expensive, but I've never had a dish here I didn't enjoy, and the service is top-notch. ”

“ This place is excellent. You will pay, but you will enjoy superb food. Ignore the somewhat staid atmosphere and focus on the steak. My god. They always have some vegetable au gratin: heaven. And don't leave without sharing a sweet potato pie with your companion. ”

“ You generally can't go wrong with the Ruth's Chris chain. The steaks are always top quality if not superior. I have always experienced great service and good atmosphere. The side dishes are adequate, but then that's not really why you go to a top quality steak house, is it? ”

“ Ruth's Chris is a chain, but one of the few chains that I like. Prime steaks that are consistant from location to location. Everything is a la carte like Mortons, but the difference here is Ruth's Chris serves all their steak sizzling in melted butter. You'll be happy, your arteries will not...but how often are you going to have a Ruth's Chris steak? Go for it. If Ruth's Chris isn't your cup of tea, you have Harris and the House of Prime Rib only blocks away on Van Ness as well. ”

“ The last time I visited Ruth’s was in Palm Springs and the experience there was a nice quiet dinner. NOT SO HERE. After our order, and salad is when it started. Kids were running around the tables!. Did parents forget how to raise kids? How is it that people can afford to eat out but can’t afford to get a baby sitter? I wonder about the other people who are spending their hard earned money to have a night out; don’t they deserve a little peace? After all this is not Chucky Cheese. The wait staff did nothing to curtail the commotion, so in my opinion it made this dinner a waste of money and time. The food was plentiful and so was the disturbance. I can accept maybe Mothers day, but not a regular Sunday night dinner. If you like quantity of food , you will enjoy Ruth’s, try and pick an night other than Sunday. With the quantity of other places in the city, Hasta la Bye Bye Ruth!
It’s not good to leave a place with your stomach all in knots!

“ Ruth Chris steakhouse serves up some of the tastiest steaks in the city. If you don't like steak they also have a neat looking lobster and of course you can't forget the chocolate sin cake. The sides are ordered ala carte, so it gets a little on the pricey side. ”

“ This is one lethal steak house where the steaks are well prepared and extremely excellent in taste. The environment is like an old country club house with a decor of stain pine or mahogany everywhere. It is so worth to shell out the money to eat here that's if your a meat lover. ”

“ I am not a meat eater but have dined at several of the steakhouses in the city. This one has good service and dependable food. I had the lobster which was HUGE and yummy, but the steak eaters were in HEAVEN ..all steaks include 1 side dish, each person ordered a different 1 and we shared with the whole table. Good spot for a group dinner. ”
