“
wowww if had to picture how food would be in Heaven I guess Aziza would be my answer. Rare cocktails (very dangerous as they are too good) and incredible heavenly dishes from soups to meat and fish...and opss bread too. If you are on a budget this is not the place for you. Great place for a special occasion. Will go back asap ! ”

“ Great service, great food, cute place. We went for the 5 course tasting menu which included (for two) soup, two apps, an entree, and dessert. We both started with sunchoke soup- creamy with a kick- very yummy. The apps were skewers that consisted of chicken meatballs and grilled grapes- meat was moist, grapes were a sweet touch. Also, the med. sampler of dips with grilled pitas. I then had the yellowfin tuna- perfectly seared on the outside, with an eggplant accompaniment (I don't know what was in it but it tasted grrrreat). He had the prawn tangine- the best cooked shrimp he's ever had, he says. The tomato sauce it came in was thick with veggies in it- had a really good curry flavor. dessert was chocolate three ways for me- I liked the chocolate gelato that came on a flat cookie/cracker, and the chocolate nugget, but didn't like the orange chocolate (not my style). He had the crepe with apple (or pear) and basil ice cream - suprisingly good combination! ”

“ Visited 2/07. Aziza is Ah So Special! The interior is cozy, colorful and sensual, with spacious seating packed with pillows. The moroccan accents are embracing. Starter: baked giant lima beans in tomato sauce, topped with feta cheese. The combined flavor is unique and seductive, rich with unrecognized, hidden spices. While waiting for our overdue entree, we were served a free bowl of lentil soup. It is damn tasty, enhanced by cumin, and accented with a huge Medjool date on the side. The moroccan date is soft, aromatic and not sugary. My squab dish has the breast meat cooked medium rare and cut into fillets, served with baby Shimeji & Shiitake mushrooms and bitter green. The Ras el Hanout (secret moroccan spice mix) reduction sauce makes this dish a gold medalist! Her prawn tangine is medium cooked and boosted by “chutney” sauce of Meyer lemon, tomato, sweet peppers, roasted carrots, and halved Kalamata olives. All so tasty! Aziza qualifies for a World Cuisine Heritage site! (4 stars) ”

“ A moroccan Vacation without the travel. Imagine my situation, its my girlfriends birthday “sfmiss” and she wants to go someplace special. Every guy faces this restaurant birthday dilemma. She suggested we try Aziza. I have to say it was amzazing; we thoroughly enjoyed the five-course offering, which left me stuffed and delighted. Service was top notch from beginning to end, our waiter max really made the evening memorable. The Themed interior added the finishing touches to this special evening. Get a reservation, use the valet parking and take the night off, at what is probably the finest moroccan restaurant in the San Francisco. ”

“ Great drink menu - lots of unusual herbs and things that sound like potions. The dinner menu is also very inventive: clearly a cal-organic-foodie take on middle eastern food. Arugula salad with figs was good, but could have used a more bitter green to better balance the figs. My date loved the baked giant lima beans (sort of a casserole, with a light feta), and they were good, but I'm not super-crazy about feta, so... The berber vegetable tagine was *great* if you like fresh vegetables, which we do, and it came with a little couscous, but it could have had more of the spinach that was advertised as a main ingredient - that was hard to find. Halibut claypot was beautifully cooked but could have used more pizzaz - the potatoes and olives set it off nicely, but the fish itself could have been spiced more, somehow - the saffron just didn't do it for me.
My online reservation went through without a hitch, and service was very good - nice timing and clearing, and good advice. 3.5 stars! ”

“ This is the kind of magical meal you replay in your mind for days after, like a secret crush that pops into your head and makes you smile in a quite moment. This is modern moroccan cuisine, so enjoy it with an open mind. They offer a generous seasonal 5 course-tasting menu for $42 per person, the catch is the entire party must order it. You get your choice of soup, entrée, dessert and basteeya, and then the chef chooses apps for the table. I started with the Green Lentil soup with a lemon/tomato broth, lovely. Then we had the Three Spreads, which I highly recommend! The Basteeya is shared; it's like a spicy ground chicken pastry with powdered sugar on top. For my main I had the Stewed Lamb & Charred Eggplant, a rich savory dish, dreamy! For dessert the Dark Cocoa Tartlet, truly decadent. Inspired c***tails list, I tried the Fez Fizz, champagne with pomegranate puree, light and perfectly balanced. Service was top notch, with extensive wine expertise. Thanks for the wine pairings Max! ”

“ Aziza nails it in terms of atmosphere and food. Even my 82-year old grandmother who hates just about everything had a great visit. However, service can sometimes be spotty, which is why I had to deduct a star. There is definitely one waiter I have had a couple of times who will flat-out forget about your table. Every other experience I have had there has essentially been perfect. The squab is so tender and flavorful and the mushroom phyllo is incredibly tasty. My only disappointment has ever been the coriander crusted ahi (I believe it was a special), but that was my bad because I forgot that I really just don't like coriander all that much and the ahi was REALLY crusted in it. Oh well. For after dinner, great coffee and tea."

“ This place is phenomenal! I went recently for a friend's surprise birthday and was stunned by the fact that every single dish that was served was excellent. Perfectly spiced and truly tasty, from apps to dessert, just done right and then some. On top of that, the service was paced very well and the servers were professional but friendly. Highly recommended by iluomo!
UPDATE: The last couple of times I've been here it did not impress nearly so much. Staff is still attentive, but our entrees came an hour (not an exaggeration) after our apps. And while some were still very good, others were either too dry or bland. I still think it's a good place, but I'm not recommending it so highly now. ”

“ This is the best restaurant I can recall ever eating at. The service was perfect. The atmosphere was perfect. The food was- you get it. One of the few SF restaurants that doest just pack you in, but makes each table feel seperate and comfertable. The food was as good as any. Dont miss the Basteeya, I loved the rabbit, but everything is great. Awesome beer and wine list. Dont sleep on Aziza. ”

“ Amazing. The decor and ambiance alone are worth the visit (check out the bathrooms too), but the food takes a beautiful setting to the next level. delicious. I mentioned to me girl friends that like the fine art of pairing wine with food they also take time at Aziza to pair the attentive and handsome waiters with the overall experience and food. One of our servers was as delicious to look at as the lavender infused angel food cake. Go with friends and eat family style by ordering a few dishes. We loved the coriander beef stew as everything melted in our mouths. This isn't the overly soupy you're used to from Mom. Magnificent. We also thoroughly enjoyed the seared tuna encrusted in fennel seeds and the black cod claypot. The layerings of flavors is exquisite and it's a great deal for the ambiance and level of service and tastes. Bravo!

“ This is one of my favorite SF restaurants! First, the ambiance. Comfy booths, moroccan-style tables and furniture, perfect lighting. Very romantic and cozy. The service is generally great, although 1 out of my 5 times there I had a very odd overbearing waiter. I have gone to Aziza for just appetizers and cocktails, full meal, and the prix fixe and depending on your mood, all very workable options. Of the cocktails, the cilantro limeade is amazing. I have been trying to replicate it at home without success. The wine by the glass selection is limited but OK. But the dishes are amazing. The mediterranean spreads with grilled flatbread is by far my favorite appetizer. The basteeya (chicken filled pastry),one of the courses in the prix fixe, is also quite tasty. My favorite entrees are the prawns tangine and the stewed lamb and eggplant. The prix fixe is a great option for a tasting menu and is really fun but a lot of food. Have them wrap up parts of each so you can enjoy each course! ”

“ What a great place! The hostess graciously offered us a table in our choice of rooms-each with a slightly different atmosphere. After choosing a comfy booth near the bar we started with some of the interesting cocktails-many with herbal flavors/infusions. The prix fixe is the way to go here. Everyone at the table must order it but each person gets to choose his or her own soup, entrée and dessert. After the delicious soups, we were served a great selection of appetizers, and basteeya (a sweetish phyllo chicken pie). The entrees (lamb shanks and stewed lamb w/charred eggplant) were complex and layered with different flavors. Everything was beautifully presented. Service matched the quality of the food. The servers were knowledgeable about the food and gave good explanations of the dishes. Be warned that the tasting menu provides a lot of food. However, leftovers are removed from the table and brought back when you are ready to go, nicely boxed with a shopping bag to carry them in. ”

“ It was incredible!! Such a find. Wonderful food. Just wish that they would have put a candle on my dessert as it was my b-day. Plentiful vegetarian options. Went with a group and it was just a wonderful experience. A lot too much food for the prix fix though. . . best to just get food a la carte. I think it would be a perfect date place too. PS I wish that I could put a double Positive on this restaurant as it was just devine. (No rose water though. . . ) AND, I almost forgot, there was valet parking for 10 dollars-what a blessing on a rainy night. ”

“ I'll give this place a positive rating, but there's plenty of room for improvement. First, what I like. Obviously, the atmosphere is seductive, not many places like it anywhere in the city, and what a delightful surprise in my foggy outer avenues. It will blow your mind the first time you step in. Food can be quite good, but is often merely OK. They are trying though, and it shows, it has improved greatly over the last few years (everything used to be uniformly cloyingly sweet, more balanced now). I really like the couscous Aziza, tastes of merguez, prawn, chicken, lamb stew. Service is adequate, at times very professional - no complaints. BIG COMPLAINT: wines offered by the glass - too few, very poor quality, too pricey. First I tried an italian "spicy" red (from Alto Adige), undrinkable. Then I tried a cotes-du-rhone, oxidized, musty and also undrinkable. Really, I'll pay $10 (or more) for a glass of wine, but it better be good, these were nowhere near the mark. ”

“ I like the fact that they use quality meats and organic vegetables. The flavors are interesting and there is great care with each dish that came out from the kitchen. The decor in the bar is lovely with dim lighting and interesting c***tails. The wines by the glass are extensive and everyone should have an option of having something they like at this place. My favorites were the arugula salad with persimmons and pomegranates, the Prather Ranch beef kabobs and of course, the Bastilla! ”

“ The owners of Aziza used to own a place in Marin called The Casbah. I was so sad to hear when it closed, but delighted to know that I could still find the food at Aziza. And the food didn't disappoint. There was an intricate little powdered sugar design on top of the Bastilla we ordered; we asked the waiter (also one of the owners) what the writing meant, and he said it was his mother's name, as it was her original recipe. Yum! Full of atmosphere, this is definitely a place I will visit again (and the cucumber-gin cocktail that I had was outstanding!) even though parking was not so easy. ”

“ One of my favorite restaurants in the city. Original and creative cocktails; my favorites are either the ginger or cucumber cocktail. The food and dining experience is ideal. Great waiters make awesome reccomendations and want you to stay a while and experience the meal. Belly dancers also make appearances without distracting from the dining experience. I'd highly recommend. ”

“ When we walked in, the wait staff and the hostess all looked at us and ignored us for a good ten minutes. The hostess was just standing and chatting with a member of the wait staff--an acknowledgement or a "just one moment and we'll be right with you" would have sufficed. When they finally acknowledged us we sat down and had an excellent waitress serve us some very delicious food. I'm only rating this a neutral due to the incredibly rude first impression. ”

“ This is one of my all time favorite places to eat. I have been here several times and have never had an experience that left me lacking. The food is extraordinary. I don't think it is possible to order anything here that is not a culinary masterpiece. I'm in love with the lamb shank infused with kumquat and the scented couscous. Their cocktails are brilliant. Their service is impeccable. They are a bit on the pricey side but it's worth every penny. ”

“ Lovely and unique. moroccan food means unique spicing, lots of lamb, lots of phyllo wrapped morsels, and even a dash of powdered sugar over your meat. Sound strange? Well, it is a little, but it's also wonderful. The food is very well prepared, and every offering we had was special in its own way. I would say we hit a few too many sweets before we even got to dessert, but really the flavors you find here you won't find elsewhere. Great oven toasted breads with interesting spreads to start, great meats and tagines, go in a big group and try it all. ”

“ Great atmosphere, goes along with recent "modern-hip-arab-chic" trend. Definitely a notch up from Kan Zaman. Must have the Bastilla. It takes a while, but is SOO good. Parking is not usually a problem either given its location. Belly dancers are actually that, not just strippers dressed up for Halloween, so don't let that keep you away if this is a date idea.
Addendum-I have been told that they no longer have belly dancing and/or that they never had belly dancing. I didn't make it up, they used to, but apparently no longer. ”
