“ My boyfriend and I are working our way down the list of all of the top 10 indian food places in San Francisco. So far New Delhi is our favorite. Ranjan, the owner, was very nice and made perfect recommendations. The service here is outstanding by any measure. We loved the ambiance of the place. The food was wonderful. We will return to New Delhi often. In fact our mothers are visiting from out of state in a couple of weeks and this is where we plan to take them out to eat. ”

“ I went here with my date after an enthusiastic recommendation from a friend. Dinner from start to finish was delicious, the decor was lovely and service was very good. We had some questions about spice levels and the server made great recommendations and really seemed to care that we were happy with our entire meal.
It's a nice romantic spot especially if you're a young couple. I noticed quite a few tables near us were celebrating anniversaries or birthdays. Portions are just right and served family style, allowing everyone to sample different flavors and dishes and still have room for a great desert.

“ The neighborhood is what they call "transitioning" but once you get inside it's easy to forget your even in the city. The dim narrow bar opens up into a large dining room with honest-to-god pillars all the way up to the ceiling. Swank. The food is wonderful. I've been here with indian food newbies and actual indians and everyone has left happy. The menu is wide ranging, with plenty of options for both vegetarians and carnivores. The servers are knowledgeable and friendly, but the awesome food is what keeps us coming back.

“ New Delhi Restaurant has been open for many years, and until now we thought of it as convenient, friendly, well priced, and good food. On our last several visits they have gotten to another level - the service is more seamless but just as friendly; but the key thing is, the food is not only good but really interesting. The menus in so many indian restaurants include the same things, cooked the same way, that you could fall into the trap of thinking you know all about it. Then you eat at a place like New Delhi, and - Wow! you notice yourself really tasting the food again, because it's subtle and layered as opposed to just tasty. Our pakoras (with chutney), lamb korma (rich curry), and baingan masala (a creamy eggplant dish they graciously agreed to bring late in the meal when I spied it on another table.) were each delicious, though together almost too rich. Next time I'd get something a little lighter as well. But these dishes show what I mean by New Delhi's getting to a higher level. ”

“ I have to confess that haven't been to this restaurant. (I plan to change that very soon.) However, I did have a woooonderful meal catered by them at my girlfriend's wedding. 300 people were served indian vegetarian and everything was hot, tasty and no one complained. I have no idea how they managed it and I don't care. I do know that if they could make 300 people happy, I can only imagine how sublime a dinner for two would be.

“ We were promptly seated at a spacious white linen-covered table. The waiter was very attentive throughout the entire meal. Our drink order was promptly taken and quickly filled. We split and order of samosas - fried turnovers filled with potatoes and peas with hot naan. It was delicious, the complex spices were perfect, spicy not too hot. Our meals came in copper bowls to share family style, along with jasmine rice cooked to perfection. I had chicken with cashews and raisins in a yogurt sauce - it was great! And my husband had chicken grilled in the tandoori with herbs and spices. We could not have asked for anything better! Need to reurn very soon! ”

“ Was visiting San Francisco for a couple of days to do some shopping. Our hotel concierge recommended this place. Wow. It was wonderful.
The food was absolutely delicious and the service only complemented it.
Had the best tandoori platter ever here. So tender and juicy. It's a great way to start he meal and went really well with the white wine the server recommended. This is an upper mid scale type restaurant. Saw dress shirts and ties as well as jeans and t shirts (but nice jeans and t-shirts). It is priced accordingly. Next time I am in San Francisco I will definitely dine here again. ”

“ For many San Franciscans, New Delhi Restaurant is the undisputed king of the indian food wars. And for good reason. The dining room is a regal one, with all of the elegant touches for elevating your meal to a higher plane. The service is professional and accommodating. The food meets a similar high standard, especially when it comes to lamb. New Delhi Restaurant was the first indian restaurant in the area to serve upscale indian food - twenty years ago. Today, the dining room is as lovely as ever and they have branched out into a line of spices that first made the restaurant famous. If you go - and you definitely should - start with the samosas with mint and tamarind chutney. All the meals come with hot fresh nan bread right off the tandoor oven. I like the sag chicken because it's the creamy spinach dish that I love, but spicier and served with chunks of seasoned chicken. Te bar is extensive and they have several signature drinks that are great, the best one is the mango martini. New ”

“ The food is excellent, place is beautiful, and the service is good. We went early on a Saturday right at 5pm because we couldn't get in at any other time. The waitstaff was very attentive, knowledgable, and professional! The restaurant itself is beautiful. It's a white linen type of place, but It feels more like someone's elegant dining room. The nan was the best bread I've ever had in my life, which sounds silly, but all the bread is toasted in a tandoor when it's ordered. We started with the mango martinis - which were delicious . Then there was the tandoori platter, which was grilled meats and vegetables served sizzling hot. We were a group of 4 and shared some samosas and taj keebab. I had the mango prawns then the others had tamarind chicken and vegetable kofta. All were very good. For dessert there was homemade ice cream in a tapioca sauce and mango lasi. All in all it was a perfect meal. well-paced, comfortable and delicious. ”

“ My husband and I have been going to New Delhi Restaurant for years now. The food is great, the service is attentive and we have never been disappointed. If you are a vegetarian like me, then I would suggest you come hungry - there's a ton of vegetarian options and the meat eaters have plenty to choose from as well. The eggplant Tamarind is one of my favorites. If you are a meat lover like my husband, get the rogan josh. The lamb is tender and there's lots of sauce to pour over the rice. The various waiters that have served us have all been very friendly and helpful. They have provided great recommendations especially if you want to change it up a bit. I could go on and on about the food. It's making my mouth water!

“
We went here because a friend told us this was the only good indian food in SF so 3 friends and I made reservations and went to check it out. We arrived early for some cocktails and talked to the bartender who offered some good insight to the history of the place and made some suggestions for dinner. She was so passionate about every thing we could not wait to eat. We all took the her suggestions of the chicken korma, sag paneer, tandoori prawns and rogan josh. The meal started with a basket of nan bread and chutney - it came out steaming hot and cripsy, no re-warming here! We all tried a little of each dish and everything was just perfect. What a great evening with friends. We will all be back next week and probably make this a weekly spot. This is how all restaurants should be. ”

“ We are from Dallas an just got back from San Francisco last week. My husband and I had dinner at New Delhi to celebrate his birthday and Ranjan and the staff did not disappoint. Excellent food, good wine list at with most bottles at reasonable prices, fantastic service. We were a little unsure about what to get - indian isn't really our area of expertise - but the chef personally talked us through ordering and we were extremely happy with everything. Chef Mohammad also wrapped up our evening with a triple scoop of the house-made ice cream. Fantastic! Definitely going back next time we're in town. ”
