“ Great cozy little restaurant which sits right on the corner of Columbus and Stockton. I literally sat in the corner of the restaurant where the two sidewalks meet so I was able to slide the window open when it got too hot. As for the service, it really helps to be a cute, sexy asian girl so you can get the best service. I watched as the waiter slobbered all over this girl and offered her his own mints and his website/e-mail address as well. Of course we sat and waited while all this was going on. He eventually had time to come see us. The Lasagna was great! Better than I expected. I also had the pizza that was very good. For dessert, I tried the panna cotta and it was no disappointment. It was creamy, sweet and freshly made. Not a bad place for a tourist restaurant, but next time I might consider wearing a short skirt for better service.

“ Panta Rei has great fresh homemade pasta and a nice upscale appearance without being snotty or pretentious, fast friendly service, conducted in italian if you prefer and a good selection of choices for veggies. Prices are on par with other nearby restaurants of the same style and quality. Try the Stuffed pastas or the gnocchi, top notch. ”

“
I really like the restaurant and its food. It is authentic in its atmosphere and menu items. It is a bit noisy but remember that this is an italian restaurant in North Beach on Columbus. Its service is good and fairly quick and the food is like you would get in southern Italy. A great place for people watching and for a great meal with your friends and family. ”

“ Linguine Nere is really good. The place is crowded like all north beach restaurants but worth it to come. Parking of course is a disater during date nights. They give you a big portion of the tiramisu too!

“ I wasn't all that impressed with the quality of food. We had the calamari to start and the veal chop pasta. The quantities were generous but taste was just average.

“ This restaurant is obnoxiously noisy with music blaring and the waiters shouting across the entire restaurant to guests, friends and other wait staff.
The seats at all the tables are either a hard formica top or a padded chair, so
half of your party will always be sitting on a very hard and very uncomfortable surface.
I was great ed, seated, and the order taken promptly. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. After that, I was completely ignored. I was not offered any condiments like crushed red pepper or Parmesan. There was no check back to see if I was enjoying my food. In other words, don't expect any service.
I did want a side of pasta for my meal and after 15 minutes had to shout 'excuse me' to get the waiters attention since he never made eye contact as he walked by 20 times. For a really small side of plain pasta, I was charged $6.95.
I was not offered dessert and didn't want any at that point.
Since I was hungry I did enjoy the food, but definitely mediocre.

“ Came here with a gift certificate from restaurants.com. ($25 certificate that we paid either $4 or $10 for.) I had mushroom ravioli, which was pretty good. My boyfriend had the seafood squid ink pasta which was also pretty good. the chocolate profiteroles were a good finish to a good meal. ”

“ I had heard great reviews of this place. However, the food was mediocre and the service was horrible. But, to make up for the poor service, we got free dessert. Not sure I'd go back for the food. Maybe to hang on the sidewalk and have a glass of wine. ”

“ it almost reminds me of italian food. If you are looking for a noisy place where they keep their music so loud you can't even talk to your partner...go there ! they have a good mozzarella di bufala. pizza is OK ! ”

“ Relatively inexpensive, decent portions and very mediocre food. Went with a group of friends...had a taste of several pastas none too great. My pasta stuffed with shrimp and crab and SMOTHERED with gorgonzola was awful. The sauce was really yummy but very overpowering. Normally I would say it was too much for the delicate shrimp and crab filling but it was needed for this dish as the stuffing was more of a paste and very unappealing...the sauce made it palatable. Another blah italian joint in north beach. ”

“ Cute place, reminiscent of the old "Steps of Rome" hot italian barker style. Like most places in North Beach the food is better during the week as opposed to over-priced and understaffed weekends. Good place for girls-night out and for people watching. ”

“ This place is okay. It has decent food, very friendly staff, but nothing amazing. It is reasonably priced and they give big portions. Good for a casual dinner. ”

“ MMMMMMMMmm, this place is good. The atmosphere for dinner is romantic, with dim lights & candles on the table. It is a bit noisy, but nice. The food is excellent. My favorite dish consists of Spaghetti with red sauce, and it's topped with Crab. I have been there with both of my kids, so it is kid friendly, but it's no Chuck E Cheese. Go and Try It Out! **Parking is a bit difficult in North Beach. Your best bet is just go to a parking garage, especially on the weekends. ”

“ I have to agree with a "mediocre" review. The atmosphere is fun, the wait staff is very good looking, and we had some great wine. But I can make better pasta dishes for much less money. ”
