“ The building is a testament to what you can do with millions of dollars and 10,000 gallons of horse pee. The cafe was nice, but indeed a venue to shill the product of the Coppola family. The antipasti was good. The iced tea should have been tossed. The cappuccino was proper. The room was well kept. It was not busy, so the pace was relaxed and pleasant. The wait staff was old-school professional. Something about an old school wait staff - They're not the masochistic sycophants so many people expect a good waiter to be these days. An old-school pro will expect as much of you as you of him, and if you can't deliver, it's unlikely he will either. Had I had more time and more appetite, I would have tried the linguine with clams, just to make sure the kitchen was up to the task. I will be back to do just that.

“
i loved this place! I had the spaghetti carbonara classico and it was delicious. We went around noon on a Sunday, and we were seated right away, the service was great and the food only took about 20 mins to cook-not bad for 2 pasta dishes. I would recommend it! :) ”

“ I came here with a friend on a beautiful warm night ready to drink bad wine, eat some pasta, sit outside and be happy. we were very easy to please, but pleased we were not. The service was so insanely bad we almost left a couple times. it took us 30 minutes to just get a menu and a glass of water and another 30 to get someone to take our order (it was not busy at all that night). the waiter didn't speak any english and got mad at us for asking a question he couldn't answer (because of the language issue) instead of just getting someone else. anyways, that was the last we saw of him, and the poor buser became our waiter after that. which is to say that the service continued to suck. also the portions were TINY and overpriced. good but not great. mostly it was an aggrivating experience.

“ Total agreement with reviews by punks and il'uomo below. I ate here a few years ago. Knew what I was getting into as soon as I saw the merchandising. Stupid of me to stay to order food & wine. Meal and experience was absolutely terrible. Why is this place still open after 7-8 years of mediocrity? Can you spell Tax-Write-Off? ”

“ I'm not out dining infrequently. I'm patient. I like to experience new places. I think restauranteurs in SF are getting lazy. I ordered a glass of wine from the phony mexican trying to be italian waiter with the full on Buon Giornio and fake italian accent. Then he kept coming back every 30 seconds until we had to say "PLEASE! Leave us alone for five minutes so we can talk!" as it was a first date from match.com. Then we decided to order food and I got some riggatoni with sausage, grilled peppers and a garlic cream sauce. Tasted like dog food. Just like the kind of Alpo that is ground beef that my dog won't eat. I ate some of it and left the rest. His was floating in so much tomato sauce and it was very flavorless. Needless to say I won't be going back there! The wine was good. I had the Cab Franc diamond series that was $10 a glass I think. That's not enough for me to continue going back there. Oh, dinner took 35 minutes to get to table once we had ordered it. Mine was barely warm. ”

“ Nice place to meet and hang out with friends after work. Have some nice wine and some appetizers. Food is so-so, but who is going there for food anyway? Just hang out and enjoy the wine and atmosphere. The building is historical, and the owner just as interesting.

“ not the best but not the worst. the food was lackluster (at least what i ordered, pasta with a mushroom sauce), but passable. the atmosphere with all the stuff for sale made me feel like i was dining at a disneyworld gift shop. the staff was nice enough though. i wouldn't go back, but i wouldn't tell other people not to go. ”

“ You have to try the spaghetti and meatballs which, I'm told, is Coppola's grandmother's recipe. The pizzas are great too. It's a great place for just appetizers and a bottle of wine too. The space is a little awkward, but loads of fun and great food. ”

“ Well here is the perfect example why someone who is not in the restaurant business has no business opening a restaurant. This cramped place is here for one reason, to sell Coppola crap! Not for the food! I judge places by their Caesar Salad. It's supposed to be their house specialty! NOT. The dressing tastes like it came out of a bottle and had absolutely no garlic flavor! Why would Coppola try and sell the “Authentic Muffoletta Sandwich” that the only thing that resembled a Muffoletta which originated in New Orleans was the bread! Especially since in New Orleans they are half the price and 200% better! It's got nothing to do with italian food, people! The four cheese pizza had bitter burnt crust, with a confusing taste of one of the cheeses. The service was ok, but nothing worth a return. The only business I can see is tourists, leaving with shopping bags of t-shirts and wine glasses! ”

“ I just went there on Saturday, for my then girlfriend's b-day dinner (her choice). I have to say that I enjoyed the experience, but didn't find the food steller. As a vegetarian, I was hoping for some tasty eggplant parm but they didn't have any. I liked what I got, though, but really wished that they had gone the x-tra mile and had fresh parmasan cheese for instead of what tasted like the canned version. Staff was extrememly nice and friendly and atmosphere was fun. :) ”

“ I don’t agree with the other negative reviews, I have eaten here and the food was yummy, it is also the home to American Zoetrope since 1972, which is run by Francis Ford coppola, one of my personal hero’s, but that aside the food is good and yes they might be trying to promote wine and other products but sitting outside eating authentic italian cuisine is fun, if you do go, visit the stare well at the back of the building an you’ll see some really cool photos of gang. ”

“ I agree with Iluomo. There was such potential here. SF is not a dependable place for outdoor dining, to limit your indoor space...selling products is the focus here, not serving diners. Good winery but a bad attempt at a restauant that will last thetest of time with locals. ”

“ What a missed opportunity this place is. With the classic location and building, Coppola could have really hit a home run here. But he opted for tourist dollars, loading the place with his stuff to sell rather than given more interior floor space to tables. Result is you gotta freeze outside many days to eat food that really is nothing special. Really too bad. ”
