“
Good breakfast spot with huge portions. Regular breakfast / brunch menu with daily specials including different omlettes. Decent, reasonably priced food with mediocre service. Not much done to dress up the dining room. I'd eat here if I were in the area but find other breakfast joints more fun or tasty. ”

“ Filling and greasy, filling and greasy. Hush puppies were fried and good. The the butter it came with was sweet, and the hash was filling. This is one place where I usually can't finish everything. I've stolen bites of pancakes from friends there, and they were always tasty, one was cornmeal based, had a little graininess to it, which I liked. Parking is tough, and there usually is a small wait every time I've been. Haven't had it, but there is a dish called "fruit orgy" maybe next time =)

“
Go for the early special on the breakfast. I know everyoen's written about the corn beef hash but it is really the only place in town where the meat chunks get that big. Staff is nice as well. Parking always available. ”

“ first of all, this really isn't southern food-it's especially not a southern breakfast without grits, which by the way are delicious if prepared properly. secondly, it annoys me when servers who refuse to write down an order end up getting everything wrong. hey, if you can't remember special orders (no onion which to me isn' t so special) then either tell me "no special orders" or go fetch a pen and write it down! anyway, more specifically to the food, it was alright. but again, large portions do not make a restaurant southern. i am a southern and take offense to that. we have some delicious tradtions-please do not blaspheme. and please stop deluding and confusing these west coast people.

“ Nothing beats a belly full of grease to start the day and I mean that in a good way. My friend brought me there for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was great. Huge portions and very inexpensive; what's not to love. I had Hush Puppies there for the 1st time and I look forward to eating them again. Bad parking, a light wait, but a definite must-try. ”

“ Great food, I always bring out of town guests here for breakfast!. Food is great and really filling. Their hush puppies are great, and they have a great french toast dish, granola with fresh fruit, and pancakes. Very filling. It is a great place to share food, because you wont be able to finish what you order yourself. ”

“ Kate's kitchen has great food, my favorite are the pancakes with bacon and cheddar. However, the wait sucks on the wknds big time. You will be more than satisfied once you get sat. I dont think I have ever finished those pancakes in one sitting. ”

“ every few months, i'll think, "hmm, i haven't been to kate's kitchen in a while," then i'll go and be reminded: the staff often has a bad case of hipster arrogance. they seem to be really annoyed at having to serve customers, as this gig is *clearly* just a pit stop to greatness. i've been there about five times, and someone's order my table was messed up every time. if you can weather the poor service -- or you have the correct piercings and tattoos -- the food is decent. ”

“ Huge portions, decidedly southern fare, a busy, country-home appeal, and a really long wait are the cornerstones of Kate's Kitchen. If you've got a big stomach, I'd highly recommend the Hushpuppies with honey butter to go with any of your entrees. I also love the fruit orgy: fruit, yogurt, granola, and any of their scrambles of the day -- posted on the big chalkboard by the kitchen door. Oh, and their cornmeal pancakes are divine! Coffee is good. Service is friendly, and a bit slow on weekends, but only because there so many darned tables! ”

“ One of the BEST breakfast spots in the city, bar none. Portions are HUGE, lots of veg-friendly options, but definitely serve it up for the carnivores. Ingredients are mostly organic, and the destination-maker for this spot are the CORNMEAL PANCAKES! To die for. Can be a bit of a wait on weekends... ”

“ I used to LOVE Kate's Kitchen as one of my fave breakfast spots...how could you not with those damn tasty green onion scones, but moving to SOMA makes you seek out other options. Kate's is still a solid breakfast spot with omlettes, eggs, flapjacks filling you up for a lazy Sunday. ”

“ It goes against my grain to give a good review to a place with lousy service, but I love the flanched farney garney so much! Yes, the servers are too cool for school, but someday they won't be hip twenty somethings anymore and will realize how annoying they used to be. Then they will become the lovely people they alway intended to be. ”

“ Greasy good hearty breakfast. The pancakes are good, and the egg dishes also. Try the cornbeef hash. Yummy. Good place to read the paper, drink a cup of Joe and wait for your breakfast to be served. ”

“ I've tried Kate's Kitchen a number of times, and probably won't go again. Though they serve fun southern inspired fare (hush puppies, veggie biscuits and gravy), the egg dishes aren't very tasty and the potatoes are mediocre. Service ranges from absent minded to aggressively condescending with servers who often seem more interested in talking about their music/film/dj/whaterver careers with friends than in serving customers. Definitely not worth the wait. Nearby Squat and Gobble is an efficient, friendly and tasty alternative for a casual breakfast or brunch. ”

“ Kate's is a nice runner-up to my NUMBER ONE BREAKFAST in SF. My friends like this place. I really can't tell if I don't like this place or like it a little. Firstly, everything has eggs (I'm allergic to eggs). So it makes it very difficult to eat here because they don't have a lot of patience for switching out the eggs for say, more potatoes? Not sure, why it's so hard but anywho. Food is good quality, Cute decor, Just not real charged about Kate's tho. ”

“ Tasty Texan style french toast toppings were sliced fresh strawberries and bananas. Very Yummy. My friend had the big man's breakfast and his plate was huge, they served him some nice thick bacon, sausage, eggs, homefries [a bit mushy for my style] and some huge cornmeal pancakes. Not bad breakfast/lunch joint. ”

“ I want to love and cherish my local breakfast place, but potatoes are such a big part of my brunch cravings. I don't love the potatoes at Kate's- they are soft and have bell peppers in them.I prefer clightly crispy, tender and salty. The cornmeal pancakes with strawberries, banana and lemon curd are tasty and HUGE. ”
