“ All you need is the jalepeno cornbread and a few drinks and you are SET!!! This place is awesome- they treat you like you're family, and want to make you happy. I've tried a lot of things here and they are all really good- of course it's always been with a buzz (maybe that's their trick). I love the oysters rockefeller (especially on a Thursday when they're 1/2 off). The alligator egg is SO RICH, you must share with multiple people, but you gotta try it. The one thing that I would say is the best of all the things I've tried are the fish tacos!!! If nothing else, try those!!! And the jalepeno cornbread of course... ”

“ They surely serve fresh fish even though a little too much buttery. I had really good steamed mussels and a peruvian stew for 24$. If you don't want your food to be immersed in butter and cream this is not the place for you. I loved the service even though one of the hostess didn't advised my husband that one of the pot was really hot and he got burned while touching the handle. It would have been nice of them to pay for that entree considering my husband's burn. Wine glasses dirty ”

“
Walking down Irving to see what is there for dinner we came across PJ's Oyster Bed. There were a lot of people waiting so we know that its got to be good. We ordered the blue crab cakes and oysters first and for my main I had the jambalaya which was really good. Also got the banana foster for dessert which was also good. Will go again and try different dishes. Make reservations though.. can get a busy. ”

“ I can't believe the negative reviews people wrote about PJ's. I've been going to PJ's over 20 years and have never had a negative experience. The quality of the seafood is superb and not overpriced at all. It's very reasonable, actually. The seafood is always very fresh. Ahi tuna that is seared on the outside and raw on the inside MUST be fresh. Over 20 years I have had great service every time I've been there. Very nice wait staff. The owner, John Dracco, is a great guy who did 8 benefits for the people of New Orleans last year. I'm certain that people who say the service is bad are the miserable ones who believe that they can get what they want by being rude. That NEVER works. Every time my parents come here from NY they want to go to PJ's. I like every dish I ever had there. Last night, the roasted King Crab Legs were to die for. And at Mardi Gras, all you can eat crawfish is wonderful. Those are alive until they are put in the boiling, deliciously seasoned broth. ”

“ I'm not an oyster lover but I love seafood, so I like this place. You MUST make a reservation if you want to come during weekends. On weekdays, you can always walk in. They have extra seats by the oster bar but you might not like to sit there as it could get really smokey. Though I don't really eat oyster, the BBQ oyster was really good. We also had this so called Voodoo BBQ shrimp, it was good though it got a little bit messy. Well...when it comes to eating seafood...you have to get messy to be able to enjoy it. Also try the Snapper.

“ The first time I went to PJ's (about 7 years agO) I raved about this place. But since then either my palate has evolved or this place has gone downhill. The jambalaya was bland, the service poor, and the ambience not as fun as I had remembered. I don't think I'll go back anytime soon. ”

“ Due to my fellow reviewers harsh - and understandably so- comments I must conclude that PJ' s has a multiple personality disorder because my experience has always been good. There are few dishes that I crave as ravenously as their Alligator Eggs in Spicy Andouille Sauce. No ova involved, just a giant crab-filled pasta shell. Their oysters Rockefeller are consistently tasty, as well as their crabcakes, warm goat cheese salad or the blackened fish. The 'gambas' could use a little less oil but I always seem to be surrounded by willing volunteers that dip their cornbread in all the sauces. Last time I ate there the snapper with green butter was delicious. Next time you go (including myself), hopefully you'll encounter the positive PJ's and walk out happy and satisfied, because the cajun flavors are truly worth it. On the other hand a message to the restaurant: Try to be more consistent guys! ”

“ We go here once a month or so usually on Sunday nights and sit at the counter, not the bar, so we can watch the cooks. We drink oyster vodka shooters and give them an extra trip for the show they put on every time. We always order the lamb chops and shrimp. It never fails. Always have oysters and some mussels. Never a bad experience. Never had a reservation so can't comment on how that is. We love it and would miss it it terribly if it were gone. Before Katrina I was in New Orleans a couple of weeks every year and this has exactly the same festive feel.

“ I went there the other night and will never go there again. We made reservations on Open Table, but when we got there the host said we didn't have any. I have never in my life had problems with Open Table. He also told us that even if they were in the system there is no way he could seat us at a table anyway. He rudely told us we could sit at the bar, like we should be lucky we could sit at all. He didn't even say he was sorry. Since we were in a rush, we decided to stay. What a mistake! We ordered a dozen of the worst oysters I have ever had. They were VERY fishy. Our entrees were also very dry and WAY OVERPRICED. My advice STAY AWAY!! Ironically I still received my points from Open Table. Obviously PJ's was lying. ”

“ I don't understand why some people gave this place a positive review and then go on to state the food is too pricey and only average tasting. Average, mediocre, so-so, and overrated best describe this place. I guess since there aren't too many cajun/creole/oyster bar type places around Pjs can still be so popular despite overcharging for amusement park quality food. But, since they charge amusement park type prices at least they're consistent. ”

“ Decided to give this place another try. Ugh, why did I bother.
The maitre d' couldn't find our reservation. Looked at me like I was lieing to him. After he went to check and see if he could do us a "favor" and squeeze us in, I saw my cell number next to an illegible scribble on the reservations sheet. I pointed it out to him and he shrugged and grabbed 2 menus and seated us. No apology or anything. I was going to leave except I was hungry. We ordered a dozen oysters which tasted warm and nasty. They said they were fanny bays, but I am not sure about that. My husband ordered the Jambalaya, which looked more like rice-a-roni, with re-hydrated shrimp. I ordered the grill combo, of ribs, chicken and Andouille sausage. Had to ask for more BBQ sauce as it was dry. Swamp pie was ok. Place feels like a dump trying to be full of character that it actually lacks.

“ Boisterous, jovial, and warm, PJ's is a great place for a little celebration. What PJ's does best is large plates of seafood served with warm, cozy sides. The appetizers, such as oysters and calamari, are also wonderful.
PJ's menu changes slightly seasonally, from what I can tell. I remember sole, swordfish, and shrimp that were piping hot and perfectly un-fishy off the grill. Sides of wilted spinach and smooth mashed potatoes come to mind as well. I'm looking forward to the award-winning fish bisque's return to the menu this winter, as it was the best soup I've ever had.
Sure PJ's is a tad pricey, but it's most fun for special occasions or a good date--though not a new date due to the noise level. Don't go once a week, but make the trip on your significant other's birthday, especially if s/he is a seafood fan. ”

“ After hearing great reviews from friends about this place, I finally had a chance to try it out for myself a month ago. They're right; it's an awesome restaurant. I'm not familiar with creole cooking so I can't tell you how authentic it is, but the food that we order was great. The complimentary cornbread was very good and the fried oysters we had as an appetizer were to die for, melting in your mouth like butter. The main courses were also good. Parking sucks in that 9th & Irving area so I recommend public transportation or an early or late dinner. And definitely make reservations if you're planning to go during the weekends. ”

“ I just ate at PJ's for the first time tonight. I ordered the creole fish bisque, blue crab cakes and garlic shrimp cappellini. I loved everything I tried. The scrumptious crab cakes were divine and came with a side of refreshing slaw and an intriguing, red-flecked spicy mayonnaise(?) something akin to the harissa aioli I had with fried calamari at Pastis in NYC's Meatpacking last summer. I came early and sat at the bar (the best seat in the house as I could watch the nice cooks) with no wait whatsoever.Yes, this place is pricey especially for Inner Sunset but I don't think the food is overrated like all the negative reviews claim. Now if PJ's will just add beignets, pralines and calas to the dessert menu... ”

“ Here we go again, not much in the Sunset as far as good tasting. PJs is more like bar-type of cooking. The wait is long and so they flood you with wine. Anytime someone is floating in wine, things look good and even taste better. However, if you skip the wine, you will realize you are being hijacked. The prices are extremely high for the substandard seafood. Portions are average size and quality. Went here twice was extremely unimpressed. We were a party of three and two of us ordered the same shellfish roast. They talked us into having it as one and splitting it. Well, apparently we were splitting it with the chef too because the table next to us who ordered it for one had more seafood. So tell them, since they are charging you full price, you want your own roasting dish. I would recommend going elsewhere unless you were too hungry to wait...otherwise, not worth the "clams" you will have to dish out. ”

“ PJs is a fun spot to grab some canjun seafood. Back in the 90s, they were always picked as the best seafood restaurant by the SF Weekly and Guardian for a couple of years...I wouldn't say the best by any means, but tasty. I've tried pretty much everything on their menu there...tasty oysters and oyster shooters, the alligator eggs(stuffed pasta with shrimp, crawfish smothered in a spicy cajun sauce), their pastas, fish dishes, their lamb chops. Things can get loud in there but the drinks flow freely. Sometimes when they're busy, we usually go across the street to Yancy's bar...let the hostess know that you're there and she'll come and grab you when a table becomes free. ”

“ It’s been a coupla years since we od’in New Orleans at Felix’s oyster bar, so, my buddy and I, decided to recapture one of those decadent nights when we downed about 4 to 5 dozen oysters each. This place is great! The oysters are fresh, plentiful and they keep on coming.( for a price!) This night we opted for 2 dozen each, and then had some jambalaya and garlic shrimp swimming in (low cal) butter and garlic. This was a fun place because there were other people in the place that where having flashbacks of the Big Easy also! This place is in a classification of its own, it’s sort of a upscale diner Orleans style, but not a formal stogy sit down dining room. This fun neighborhood place is a definite return, for the seafood oyster platter! There not that expensive when you consider the air fare to New Orleans! Service was attentive and friendly! Oh, they didn’t have any crawfish ( mudbugs) maybe next time! ”

“ Yes I do agree pricey, but very good food. They make there own Habanero Vodka, Try It in an Oyster Shooter, very good. I love there peruvian stew, mmmmmmm. Yes it is hard to find parking around that area, but SF is just that way for most places these days. It is not a cheap spot it is pricey, but well worth it. The restaurant is small, but give it a try! ”

“ We went to PJs with a group of 10 or so, and after a mediocre meal, ended up spending $100 a piece! I thought it was an OK experience. It is so embarassing to have to go to the ATM after the check arrives, I must say. ”

“ Food isn't terrible, but it ain't great either. While it's conveniently located in the inner sunset, it's hard to find parking. Then when you get inside, it's busy (expect to wait a long time) and noisy. Staff is friendly and atmosphere casual. I found the prices very high relative to the quality of the food. Next time, I'll keep looking for another place. ”
