Negative Cuisine: Japanese Burlingame
We had a reservation at Benihana's last night for my son's birthday. As a student of japanese culture, this was a special treat, planned weeks in advance. However, the valet staff was so rude and obnoxious that we walked in, cancelled our reservation, and left. What a terrible attitude. Everyone in our party agreed that there's no excuse for their behavior. Review #20701

Ahhh...Benihana, the infamous king of the japanese counter chef restaurants. Let's face it, there's nothing really authentic or good about Benihana except when we were little and found the show entertaining. I actually was actually stuck with Mapleleafgirl in Burlingame and decided to hit Benihana just for fun awhile back...they happened to be having a special overpriced event dinner celebrating the owner Rocky visting from Japan showcasing his new sake book, "Water from Heaven". It was epic because we signed on to have mediocre food and drink with Rocky as he got pretty f$#ked up in front of everyone. It was one of those Twilight Zone dining experiences, but in reality we should leave Benihana's to the tourists coming in from indianapolis...and if you are from Indy, even you should know NOT to order the sushi, stick with the steak and lobster being flipped onto your plate. I went to a company event held at this Benihana's. I never understood the appeal of Benihana. The food was so-so and I felt like I didn't eat enough. Plus I didn't like going home with my clothes smelling like the restaurant. Review #17070

Benihana used to be the cool place back in the day...but nowadays I don't really undersand the appeal. That being said my b/f and I ended up in the area and dropped in for dinner one night a while back. It randomly was a night that Rocky(sp?) the owner of Benihana was there and some big party celebrating his book---Sake: Water from heaven. It ended up being a tasting and drinking party. We had a great time, i love falling into random events like that. It's kinda like stepping back into time walking into the place. Review #15574
