“ I love this place. The back patio is so charming. They serve breakfast through lunch. Monday night is "Bring your doggie to dinner" they provide a bowl of water & a bowl of treats for your pooch...AND THE FOOD IS TASTY! What's not to love? Even better is a quick drive OR bus trip from my house. I came on a monday for lunch with a friend. We shared the charcuterie plate, croque royale & eggs bennie. I wasn't wowed by anything but everything was above solid. Nice flavour balance, eggs cooked perfectly. Then i found out you could bring your dog on monday nights...and it happened to be Carter's birthday...so Dave & I went back Monday night.
We had the sampler apps (choose 3) beet salad, grilled tiger prawns & mussels and I had the trout and Dave had the Grilled Pork chops. The salad and mussels were excellent. The flavour of the prawns were lovely but they were a little overcooked. My trout was delicate and perfectly cooked. The chop tasted brined--perfectly done & flavourfull. ”

“ On my first visit to Zazie, I could see why so many people like this restaurant. Its got that old San Francisco Charm, the ceilings are about 20 feet high and you feel right at home. I had a scrumptious Hamburger the quality of the beef was easy to recognize, with avocado and white cheddar. I also had a quick bite of Angela's Salmon and it was delicious “see photos below”. I have a few areas for improvement on the burger, I think it just me, but I don't care much for the halved potatoes, I would like the option of french fry's the bun was good, however way too think, to really enjoy the burger to it's full potential, each bit was 50% bun 50% burger, so maybe a bun that's more lightweight. If your Cole valley stop by Zazie, this place is a find, sure to please.

“ We took a group of reviewers here for the "No corkage fee" Tuesday extravaganza! Wine tasting anyone?? Thanks everyone for bring the killer wine! Zazie is my new go to casual french place, I loved it! The food was affordable and of the highest quality, I had the steamed mussel's, WILD salmon and a creme de pot all for $22 bucks. How do they do it? The very best thing about Zazie is the warm and friendly owner and staff. The place has loads of heart and I'm smitten. I really am head over heels and scratching my head wondering when and where the second location can get cooking! They have got a winning formula and expansion should be on the horizon. The place has been around just shy of 20 years, the current owner worked her way up and then bought the place. The location originally was a school house that was chopped into smaller retail spaces, one of which houses my new restaurant crush. Do your self a favor and make a reservation. Enjoy! ”

“ Last night I had the chance to visit Zazie with SF Survey Founders Wayne and Angela as well as some other foodes from this great website. Lets start by the fact that Tuesday is no corkage fee night! We brought lots of great bottles of wine and learned that no corkage fee doesn't mean that the great servers won't help you open the bottles and pour the wine because they still did both. The special deal on the menu allowed us to order an appetizer, entree, and dessert for $21.95. I had a spinach salad for the salad which had caramelized walnuts which were phenomenal. Then, there was a wonderful salmon dish that was quite juicy and delicious. It was covered in vegetables and sat atop a mountain of delectable mashed potatoes. For dessert I had a strawberry tart which was quite tasty.
The atmosphere here is great and we learned it was once a store which explains the store front window seating. This is a very affordable and nice place to have good french food. ”

“ Was my 1st visit last night at the SFSurvey dinner. How have I managed to miss this place for the past 15 years? The $21 prix-fixe 3 courses of tasty, authentic, clean, well made french-style food is a great bargain. We came for NO wine corkage night. Waiter popped our 5 bottles without a sniff of "You cheap bastards" attitude; he even brought an ice bucket for the Pinot Blanc. Wayne had the burger, he liked it. JilDufy had the marscapone polenta (You need to eat more girl, you're too skinny!) The rest of us ate wild salmon on a bed of parsnip/celery root mash. The fish quality was excellent, perfect texture. Lightly pan grilled with a hint of butter. Topped with quickly wilted pea shoots & a few tiny sweet tomatoes. This dish in France would be no better for the same price. Chocolate pot au crème dessert was divine but way too small at 3 ounces. I happily could'a had cup more. Verdict: Good dinner, low price, funky-cute room, good service, great dining companions - A winner! ”

“ I've been to Zazie twice now for brunch... despite the crowd waiting outside, we've been seated pretty promptly both times, even with a party of 6. The food was reasonably priced and tasty -- pumpkin pancakes on one occasion, and eggs arnold (I think) on the other... i like the DIY mimosas, too, where you get a bottle of bubbly and your choice of fresh juice -- i recommend the mango. Nice atmosphere with lots of light, high ceilings and a big skylight. Very busy, but the service was still pretty good. Considering the dearth of great brunch spots 'round here, I'll be going back. ”

“ I finally made it to Zazie's after reading it on the top 10 and have to say I'm not sure what all the excitement is about. The wait was long, the service pretty bad...our table hadn't been cleaned before we were seated and the wait for its cleaning and for some water was extraordinarily long. A few friends and I went there for brunch and it was okay. I had the mushroom scramble. It was fine but not stellar and the potatoes were rather bland; soft with huge pieces of garlic with the peels still on. The prices were on the high side but in this case you don't get what you pay for. I don't think it worth the wait. ”

“ I'm angry at myself for skipping over Zazie's for so long. They serve a pre fixe three-course meal most nights for about $20 from a limited menu. The pate was delicate, buttery, and slightly sweet, and the fish bouillabaisse was served perfectly -- a spicy sauce is spread over small pieces of toasted bread, which you can flip into the broth to adjust the heat to your liking. Pots de creme were too rich to finish, even when shared, but the apple crisp was heavenly. Service was top-notch: friendly, respectful, and knowledgeable about the menu. Atmosphere is distinctly french-californian, just what you'd expect in Cole Valley. ”

“ I'll probably go back again to give their brunch a try, since people seem to like it. But they were really bad on a night we came here for a romantic dinner. The service was terrible and the food wasn't even cooked properly. I still want to come back and give them another chance, though, because I used to love them so much. It was a disappointment to have such a bad meal, to say the least. ”

“ Yum yum yum! delicious brunch and such a cute restaurant. We didn't have to wait at all because we went pretty early, but we saw the line get long as we ate. Their eggs benedict type dishes are amazing and I love the light hollandaise sauce. They don't drench the eggs and they are poached to perfection. Their big cup of chai is also very good.

“ Breakfast at this place is what its all about for me. The variety of poached egg dishes is awesome. The potatoes come with cloves of roasted garlic, and if you are like me then you'll smear that garlic all over everything. If you feel like pancakes/french toast, or eggs and potatoes this place is good. Expect to wait though on the weekends.

“ Finally made it here for dinner after hearing it was a great little Cole Valley bistro. I wasn't disappointed. Zazie is a cute little place in the heart of Cole Valley. Parking is less than ideal like anywhere else in Cole Valley but the N-Judah stops just 1/2 block away. The maitre de was great and while our waitress was attentive, she certainly wasn't the most effusive and made us feel a bit rushed even though there was no one waiting for our table. The food was quite good (I had the lamb chops). It is true the portions are a bit on the small side but then again, Zazie is quite affordable for what you're getting. The most expensive entree on the menu is $16 and they have a limited option 3 course prix fixe for $20! Plus, on Tuesday nights they waive the corkage fee (awesome!) or if you'd rather not BYOB, as an alternative, on Tuesday's they offer a house red for $3/glass or $12/bottle. Zazie was great and I will definitely return. ”

“ Great reasonably priced dinner place in that nice Cole Valley neighborhood. Try to get a table on the patio. The $17.5 prix fixe is a fantastic deal, though be warned you'll get smaller portions. Entrees are in the $10-$14 range. The food was delicious, the Figs appetizer and Osso Bucco entrees drew the most praise. The wine list is cheap but a bit short. This place is a very popular neighborhood spot, for good reasons. ”

“ Overall positive but last night I was disappointed. Flavorless onion soup, too salty ravioli swimming in to much cream. the flour less chocolate cake was good but frozen. Service was just OK. We had to ask for silver wares twice, the messed up with credit cards. Hopefully it was just a bad night ! I think this place is better for breakfast than dinner. Overall positive for breakfast, neutral for dinner ”

“ Worth the wait on a Sunday morning. The ginger pancakes and breakfast potatoes are amazing. The latte bowls are pretty good and you can enjoy your latte and the wait staff will refill your bowl with house coffee at no charge -- a nice benefit! Also great for a relaxing mid-week dinner. ”

“ Fantastic brunch. The french influence is a welcome theme, especially with the big cafe au lait bowls and tasty butter. Service depends greatly on which waitstaff you get, however the tiny kitchen turns out consistently good food in a timely manner. Portions aren't huge, but they're satisfying. If you want the full Zazie experience, wait for a table in the garden. In any case be prepared to wait on weekends. ”

“ The outdoor seating makes the Sunday brunch complete. The gingerbread pancakes with lemon curd are excellent and the coffee is strong. My parent's didn't love the place for dinner- they had poor service and they thought the food was average. I think Zazie shines for breakfast. ”
