“ I came here to get dinner on the way home from work. These are definitely the biggest burrittos I've seen in this town. I couldn't finish it all. I asked for the special, a shredded beef burritto, but I asked for it as a super with the guacamole, sour creem, etc. Though the menu says to add $1 for super, making the special super negated it as a special, so it became full price. I thought that was odd. but the food was decent. I didn't have time to look around the place and didn't immediately notice a slasa bar, so I have no idea if they have one. I thought I saw them put salsa in the bag, but found none when I got home, so I have no idea if they put it in there or not. I didn't think anything incredible about this place, but it was fine. Not a bad choice. ”

“ Balazo is great...definitely the best taqueria in upper Haight. The carnitas and grilled chicken are very tasty. The burritos are tasty but i really like the plates with a side of corn tortillas and beans and rice. The flavors are always very good and the atmosphere coloful and comfortable. ”

“ When I lived in the Haight, Balazo was the place to go for a quick burrito. There's ample seating up a half flight of stairs and to the back of the restaurant if you're eating there, but if you're ordering to go, give yourself a few extra minutes. They're not super speedy with the "para llevar" orders. Balazo makes a decent burrito, though I concede that it's not my favorite by a shot. However, they do serve a juicy grilled zucchini side dish that's authentically flavorful, yet simple (though rarely seen on tex-mex menus, which is odd seeing as the squash family is native to the sandy soil areas of North and South America). Sparkling relief-impression brass brings life to the spacious interior. Overall: a reliable Haight Street stop. ”

“ Balazo is where I go when I don't want to travel all the way to the Mission, and willing to pay the extra money. Everytime I go, the food is high quality, delicious, and ALWAYS hits the spot! My usual is the Carnitas burrito with pinto beans and a medium aqua de piña.
The food is not only great, but I love the décor and the atmosphere of the restaurant. They play catchy mexican music, and the festive, revolutionary, guerrilla style theme is so fun. ”

“ I recommend their beef nachos, lots of melty cheese and crunchy warm nachos...Hmmmm, yummm. Sometimes they have chicken soup a bit oily, but delicious nonetheless. Make sure to finish up with their fruit juices, goes down with lots of ice. I recommend a stop to Balazo before, between or after shopping around the Haight.

“ I am very sensitive to the construction of the burrito. I once had this intellectual theory that men and women liked their burritos made differently, a sort of gender divide. While you may scoff at hypothesis, start to think about the burritos in your own lives. Now for Balazo, theirs is not an out-of-body experience, but I always look forward to them.

“ Can someone please tell the other reviewers that Super Burritos are NOT mexican???? They are a San Francisco original!!! On that note, the burritos are big and fat, with lots of E V E R Y T H I N G ! ! ! ! ! Very very good. Don't wait for them to add the sauce...Step up to the salsa bar and make sure you get plenty. No problemo, as I'd rather have control of the sauce that goes in my food anyway. And if you're thinking about getting the nachos, beware...It is a meal in itself, so don't buy as an appetizer...

“ As a Haight resident, I assert there are no good taquerias left now that Chabelas is gone. El Balzao is average and so we go out of our way to find something better. Burritos *are* big, stuffed sometimes till near bursting as though the sheer size would stun us into thinking it was delicious. The standard meats are pollo or carne asada, and the staff seems annoyed if you request carnitas from their crock-pot, or mole, etc. Sour cream goes on heavy. vegetarian options are more than average, including a cactus burrito and a chile relleno buritto. However, no grilled veggie burrito. Mole sauce is thin, overly spiced with nutmeg, and not sweet. Enchilada sauce is equally thin and has a strong metallic taste. If you arrive after five or during a busy lunch hour, expect tables to be dirty and the salsa bar to be empty and unappetizing. Though we miss and crave good mexican food, El Balzao is not good enough for us. We'll keep looking. ”

“ Found on the happening area of Haight street, I thought this place was great for some authentic casual mexican (taqueria.) Most notable is the multiple vergitarian options for your burritto (not just one like most other places.)
I like to sit in the loft and look over the kitchen while I eat. ”
