“ I love this place! I went on a Friday evening - it was straight out of Milwaukee. There were german dancers doing the polka to a wierd hippie polka band featuring a steel guitar and some amazing horn players. The food was good - I had the filet of sole. There was a ton of it, especially because I had been snacking on free garlic fries when I first got there. A friend had the ham shank and I stole a lot of that because it was so good. We all shared a struedel, but now I want go to back and get one for myself. But even more than the food, it was fun.

“ Schroeder's offers authentic german fare in hearty portions. The sausage platter is delicious and the potato pancakes are a must try. There is a wide selection of entree choices all of which are mouth watering. A good place for a family get together, to watch a game or get a beer. Come hungry, leave satisfied.

“ Hallo, guten tag,
Just here last week, the schnitzel appeared to be breaded with 8 ounces of batter and deep fried twice; it tasted nasty. The warm red cabbage was ok. The Spaten bier ist fantastich. If you friends have not eaten german food take them here. The decor will wow them. Try schnitzelhaus , reviewed elsewhere . ”

“ Wunderbar, best describes this older european style german Restaurant (1893). Huge old german murals decorate the walls with the wood paneling in this open restaurant. After reading the many reviews, we had to try it. Be forewarned, this is not for the dieter or those who do not like comfy food! We split a good sized mixed green salad with blue cheese. Good size salad. Also, the dinners come with german potato salad (mixed with vinegar and mustard) and red cabbage...both delicious. I had the Jagerschnietzel-large portion of zesty seasoned breaded veal with mushroom shallot gravy..tender. My partner had the Sauerbraten braised marinated tender meat with sweet/sour gravy, tasteful, big, and tender! We both had hot potato pancakes slightly crispy with apple sauce...like grandma made. Broccoli and mixed veggies came with the dinner. For dessert, homemade warm apple strudel with ice cream and vanilla sauce. Perfect dinner! Some Saturdays they are open...call first. ”

“ Every one has to eat a lot of wiener here to get the full experience. The waiter was tipsy but very friendly and knew how to serve. Very welcomming and fun. If you are going to go to the movies at the Embarcadero then this place is a convenient place to eat. The beer is great and the food is hearty and delicious! They may serve you with the german potato salad or the pickled cabbage. Both are great. It is good for a family gathering or wienies and brews with the boys. I highly recommend it! There is hardly another place in San Francisco that you can have such a variety of great sausage and keep it safe! Take the wife, take the kids, take yourself. ”

“ Having business around the corner, my contact insisted on Schroeder’s.This place is almost as old as Tadich, and that’s where the similarity stops. The lunch menu had something for all, with great german dishes. Our starter, the crab cakes were small but had good crab meat taste and not dry. The ceasar salad had a good dressing with extra anchovies brought to the table for the asking! Both the Wiener schnitzel and the Hungarian Goulash were both done as expected with plenty of meat and great sauce. Service was a tad sluggish but considering it was beginning of the lunch rush, somewhat expected. We were pleasantly surprised with the attentiveness of the wait staff and the ability to actually have lunch completely served within one hour! We split a large piece of apple strudel which was a mistake. I really needed my own piece, it was that good.. Looking at the next table’s burger, I am going to make an attempt to return for either dinner or lunch again and order the burger! ”

“ Yum! I always get the german Sausage Platter. It comes with a little of everything. I think next time I will stick to the swiss and Garlic Sausage though. It is so soft and flavorful. My boyfriends mom is from germany and he says this is just like her cooking! You get huge portions so it's a good place for splitting meals. The restaurant is huge for a San Francisco place and they apparently have polka dancing on Friday nights. My only complaint is that it sort of smells in there. It's the faint smell of spilled beer. ”

“ Guten Tag! Schroeders is a great place where you come in from the financial district and get a dose of Oktoberfest! Great german food and I love the dark, wood feel of the place. It's old school honey. The potato pancakes are great. ”

“ comments: Good place to watch a sports game on TV with friends while drinking beer and eating appetizers. The food is wonderful, little bit pricey, but worth it if you want german food. The service is really good. If you go between 5-7pm, a lot of times they have free appetizers to go with your beer. ”

“ This place has been in operation since the late 1800's. If you have a need for tanking up on hearty german fare, this is the spot for you. If not just go for the festive atmosphere and enjoy some of the dozen and half beers they have on tap. zer goot ”
