I was craving taco's and I thought it was time to finally try mission neighborhood. I had a Carne Asada Tacos as MapleLeafGirl Suggested. She is right, thats all you need to know. lots of flavor and lots of beef. I got sour cream "photo below". I probably could have eaten four of them. One taco $3.50. Review #21001

Wayne and I did a taco tasting in the mission, we sampled 3 different restaurants and started with La Taqueria, we could have just stayed here IMO. I got the dorado (crispy) beef quesadilla (w/corn tortilla) $5. This was the closest I've had to the famous crispy tacos I make for my friends. The beef was flavorful and of higher quality than most other taquerias. The pico de gallo was fresh and finely chopped and the green salsa on the tables was a perfect balance of heat and acidity. Extremely casual open-air decor with large tables inside and a few small ones outside. I grabbed a spot at the counter window outside, which I think was the best seat in the house. I looked on as the cooks chopped, melted, fried and assembled little mounds of meat, cheese, pico de gillo, sour cream and guacamole, swaddled inside a corn tortilla. Best taco I've had besides the ones I make at home, I would return in a heartbeat. Enjoy! Review #20994

Oh man.. this place was packed around 7 at night yesterday!! I've never seen so much people standing/waiting at a taqueria like that before.. The food was pretty good. I had a quesadilla and it was packed with beef.. Lots of sour cream.. the way I like it.. Next time I'll probably try the tacos.. Review #19856

I have not had a better taco anywhere. Don't go here for burritos - tacos only. If you think quesadillas are boring, try one here. Order it dorado (crispy) and you will change your mind. I sure wish I could figure out how they make their aqua frescas - I don't know how they manage to pack so much fruit flavor into the drink. Review #19698

This place rocks- quality meats, delicious salsa and a fun atmosphere. I judge all other taquerias based on their carnitas burrito. No one can beat it! Just look at those awards behind the counter if you need proof. Review #17266

With 17 positives I had to give them a go for lunch today. Had a chicken taco. Sour cream was extra and avocado was an extra $1. Chicken taco total, no drink, $5. It came with guacamole, (which is made with avocado but is not avocado...it is guac...) not avocado. The taco lacked flavor. It was so wet that my plastic tray immediately had a puddle in the bottom requiring me to hold the taco in the dripping paper. That made me feel rushed. No choice of beans. Had generous amount of moist bland chicken that came it 2 very large chunks, so 2 bites of taco was just chicken, rest of taco was just veggie, and wet and lacking flavor...no chips with the taco, no salsa bar, no flavor = no desire to go back for tacos. I am a 125 lb female and don't eat lots of food. One taco was ok for lunch, but if I had been having dinner, I would have wanted more food. Much better tacos are everywhere in the Mission, they come with chips and cost less money. No reason to go back there. Review #15808

really good burritto, but way more expensive than others in the area. the guacamole was fabulous, as was the salsa. the gentleman preparing my burritto seemed to take quite a bit of pride in his work, which impressed me. the burrittos are smaller than the others around town (and by smaller i mean the size of an average meal rather than the size of 2 or 3 meals). chips are not included. guac, cheese, etc are $1.60 extra. . so my burritto with everything and no chips was over $8. but it was incredibly good. i went in there because of the huge crowds i generally see there. the day i went in there was no line to order but getting it did take another 10mins after i ordered. many people were sitting around waiting for their food, but no one seemed upset about a wait. lots of smiles when someone's # was called. don't know how oftern i'll get here, but the food is very good. Well after reading that La Taqueria was the BEST Choice in the 100 best bay area restaurants, I had to go get me one. Well, first off, the wait to order, then after you order, unlike most burrito places, you go sit and wait, and its this that they FAIL in my book. I can't see what the heck they're doing to my poor burrito. The guy working the assembly line for the tacos is slapping salsa faster then I don't know how.. but the point is, my burrito was probably a 4.5 on a scale to 10. It had chunks of tomato that were not ripe at all, and normally I do not get salsa, and its way too wet to enjoy, like a nice wrapped burrito should be. In fact I didn't know they didn't put rice on your burrito either. Boooo, I love rice on my burrito! The meat was only regular burrito fare. I won't waste my time going back here, when I can get a tasty La Cumbre Burrito, which I did 10 minutes later. RAD Review #13566

The straight dope on La Taqueria: Go! But before you do be forewarned: 1) You'll want to eat everything in sight. 2) The salsa verde on the table is great. 3a) Do yourself a favor and don't order the chips. 3b) Do order the horchata, it works wonders for when you; 4) Order Jalepenos and avocados in your burrito because; 5) The whole thing is only going to cost you 8 bucks anyway. 6) IF you just can't wait to get your food, be sure to stand in front of the right counter (there are two; one for burriotos and one for tacos). 7)Be prepared for chaos, because the place gets crowded. 8) These are not dry, gonna-stay-off-your-clothes burritos. The juice from the beans doesn't get drained a whole lot before, or absorbed completely after, the burritos are made. Thus, be prepared, splurge on a whole stack of napkins. 9)They use one large slice of cheese that they melt at the same time they steam the tortilla, so the burritos definitely have a layered effect to them. 10) Enjoy. I echo all the positive reviews for this place. I've eaten here 3 times. This is a great taco in the city. In the 1970's I taught english down in Mexico City for a year, and I ate my share of street vendor tacos. Got to taste some amazing flavors. This place makes tacos that hold up well in comparison. A bonus is Dianda's bakery next door. Go there for a dessert pastry after your tacos. Review #12021

Holy moly, the best tacos in the city by far. Carne asada tastes noticeably better here than anywhere else (quality of the beef and the nice bbq'd char). Tacos are quite expensive (with everything they run over 5 bux!) so you'll be surprised at your tab if you get a couple and something to drink. But once you dig in, you'll realize what you are paying for. It's like an entirely different animal here. I've heard the burritos live up to their rep as well. Review #6062

Read tons of positive reviews about this place so I had to try it, but I didn't find it to be that great. I've had better burritos and tacos from taco trucks in the East Bay and San Jose. This place might be the best you can get in SF though. Review #5013

Holy guacamole. They really do pile on the avocado when you order it extra. More expensive than most taquerias, but really worth a visit. I like the fact that there is no rice in the burrito. Lots of meat, but good quality meat unlike other taquerias. Long wait often, but it is part of the charm Review #4646

My favorite place to grab a taco "con todos". Can you say fresh. Tacos run $5.00 each but they are so worth it. Their burritos are solid as well...one thing I like about La Taqueria is that they are different than all the other taquerias in that there are no rice, lettuce, etc(which I do like @ El Toro and Pancho). The carnitas are amazing as well as the carne asade. You can taste the quality and the authenticity of the mexican cuisine. I've taken dozens of friends to La Taqueria and they're always looking at me like "where the hell are you taking me, let's go to Foreign Cinema since were out here"...but you know what, every single one of them go back to La Taqueria. La Taqueria actually ranks higher now that I've had it a couple of times. Maybe I just ordered the wrong dish the first time i tried it. But, yum, the carnitas and al pastor burritos are delicious! And the prices are definitely more expensive than what i'm used to, but I think it pays off because of the high quality. The green hot sauce that is on the tables complements the meat extremely well. I love their aguas frescas as well, especially the horchata. Review #3661

well friends, here is where i delve into the world of controversy. la taqueria makes the BEST BURRITO IN THE WHOLE DAMN WORLD. no rice...totally GENIUS. sometimes perfection is all about simplicity, freshness, and attention to detail. that is the case here. go have a vegetarian burrito and add avacado to your order. use a touch of the green hot sauce on your table. your mouth will dance the macarena, i promise. Burritos are all tasty, the carna asada has just enough crustiness that I like. The carnitas is tender too. Imo, the fruit drinks are good too. Had the mango drink this past summer, it was perfectly blended, sweet and fresh. Parking is obviously non-existent so take the bus/bart over there. Review #2023

Wow. No burrito quite like this in SF. No rice in these, but man is the meat good, and there's a lot of it. Get the carnitas. Agua frescas are all pretty bad, though. Review #1090
