“
The overall vibe, warmth, and superior quality of this intimate french Bistro, where both classical and nouveau trends are embraced and exemplified, should make it a staple for Bay Area dinning. The food, clientele, and management are fantastic. Brian the bartender is surely one of the best Bay Area Bartenders in skill, knowledge, and execution, plus he is one hell of a great guy. All Albuquerque New mexican transplants seem to shine in the 415. Gar? exemplifies what a casual dinning experience should taste, sound, and feel like! ”

“ Not good. Vegetable cannelloni pasta shells were undercooked and still hard!! yuk! Duck confit was so dried out it was like eating rope. Mussels were OK. Creme brulee was the pits. Was made in a very shallow wide dish so the creme was warm and slimy and there was to much sugar on the top. Won't bother going back if I have too.

“ Just got home from here. First I have to say that this is one of the noisiest restaurants I have ever been to. It was not possible to hear what my dinner companions had to say even though they were almost shouting! On that score alone, I will not return. However, the meal was a big disappointment. A block away is La Provence, a superior restaurant. There were 4 of us and two liked their meals and two of us did not. The appetizers were good. Asparagus soup, frise salad Lyonnaise style and two beet salads. The two who liked their meals had a chicken breast dish and the other had a vegetable lasagne. Two of us had lamb brochette. Neither of us who had the lamb ate more than two pieces. The lamb was tough and tastless. One of the things on the plate was white beans (which I love) and these were inedible as they were very undercooked. There is no excuse for that! Doesn't the chef taste what he is cooking? They should never have left the kitchen.(beans, I mean, but maybe the chef should too ”

“ Went here recently with a party of 8 plus an infant in a car seat. The staff was friendly and helpful and reasonably attentive. I really liked the Duck Confit for my main course, though my appetizer, the Ahi Tuna Tartare was nothing special, kinda bland. ”

“ Recently went here for a firend's birthday dinner and I have to say the food was quiet tasty. Although it took forever to get our food it was worth the wait. I had the Grilled Fillet Mignon with fries and green beans which was excellent and done just the way I like it. The staff is very friendly and attentive. It gets really busy so reservation is recommended otherwise best to go early or late after 9pm.

“ After reading some neutral and negative reviews of this place, we didn't quite know what to expect when we headed into Garcon on a friday night with no reservation (a bold move!). An hour wait for a table, but we settled for a spot at the bar after just 15 minutes and a lovely glass of rose (on the house). I loved sitting at the bar actually. We truly enjoyed the food. The ahi tartare was nothing like Aqua's but very good nonetheless. The cassoulet was also excellent, though not truly authentic (somewhat mild). Prices were in the $15-$22 range. The wine list is expensive, not much choice under $30. Friendly service (if you know how to read french people), and great atmosphere.

“ Was there twice this month (Feb 2006). Food overall is good, although some dishes don't quite deliver: the steak was so-so, but the duck confit was grand. Their duck & sausage is scrumptious and big enough for two, but the beet salad is not really shareable, unless you want to throw a coin for the last beet.
The service is prompt and friendly but they could definitely relax a little. I felt an undercurrent of stress around, but since this place is fairly new, it's perhaps one of those quirks that will resolve by itself with time. All in all, a good addition to neighborhood.

“ In a town with many french offerings, Garcon doesn't stick out. It's not a bad place for french food, but it's not a fantastic place either. The servers all seem to come from french-speaking countries and the decor is dark and sexy. Yet the food seems slightly uninspired and unimaginative. If you're looking for french food, you can have a decent meal here...but chances are that it won't rock your world. If you want something unusual, try one of the other french restaurants in SF. If you're in the Mission and you want a loud and noisy place that serves decent french food, Garcon is an option. ”

“ Another place for brunch in the Mission that is well needed. As my friend and I sat in empty Garcon for Sunday brunch we laughed at the people getting soaked and freezing waiting for Boogaloo's. Garcon has a nice brunch menu with great service. The portions were huge and came with potatoes and a salad. I hope this place gets more business because it is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. I can't wait to try it for dinner. ”

“ mediocre food... horrible service... way overpriced. Although I can't say I didn't expect it as the restaurant is owned by the same people as Plouf - which is always a disappointment. There was way too much wait staff - none of whom had any idea what was going on or how to wait on a table. The busser sat our water down on the table, picked it up, brought it to another table, realized that was the wrong table and brought it back... people make mistakes... but this happened all night with almost every course. I had the lobster ravioli - which had a horrible sauce on it and my partner had the lamb which was just a poor quality cut of meat - really fatty. Wine list was overpriced and not extraordinary. On a positive note the decor is nice, and the goat cheese appetizer was tasty - although uninspiring. ”
