Chez Spencer is a really charming romantic spot for dinner. When you make your reservation, they give you the option to sit on the patio. I highly recommend it!! Very cute and they have a ton of heaters, so it's very warm. We went with the tasting menu and wine pairing for $120 a person. It seemed like a lot, but it was worth almost every penny! I was really surprised how large the portions are and the wine went with the food perfectly. My only complaint was the oyster( I don't like them) and I think the cut of beef could be a bit better. If you are looking for a romantic spot for dinner, I would recommend Chez Spencer. BTW, neighborhood is a bit sketchy, don't let that scare you!! Review #18525

This restaurant was recommended to me as the perfect romantic anniversary restaurant, so I quickly made reservations. But it wasn't nearly the perfect restaurant I pictured. In fact, I wasn't thrilled with the atmosphere at all when I first walked in. There was an outdoor seating area, which seemed dark and impersonal, and then the inside was a large, loft-like area with high ceilings and a modern feel. Not the romantic place I thought it would be. However, the food was very good, and we enjoyed our meal very much...the only thing that came across as negative was when my hubby had his wine glass confiscated by a server before he was finished savoring the last drop. You see, he's got this thing about saving his favorite taste for his last taste, so he kept a tiny little bit of wine left in his glass for the end of his meal. When the waitress took the glass, and the tiny bit of wine in it, she didn't look, speak, or otherwise communicate with us at all. Yikes. Review #17012

Absolute hiddine gem in a barely neighborhood...edge of the Mission and Soma. You would never know it exists unless someone walks you in. I have eaten there three times and sent my parents there for their 40th wedding anniversary. Very chic, expensive, and well done. I love sitting on the porch, but the inside is just as warm and inviting. My meals are always extended as it is inviting to long conversations and multiple courses. On two separate dates, we sat in the bamboo enclosed deck for hours and talked, watched, ate, sipped, and completely enjoyed ourselves. Review #10085

yes i do like the ambiance, the patio, the decor and the food too. But listen to my 9 year-old daughter who loves to cook and eat, who noticed that Mijitas is much better than other taquerias, whose favorite restaurant is Zuni cafe for the roasted chicken, who is asking to check out Chez Panisse for her 10th birthday...who often plays to rate restaurants after a meal: the food is too complicated at chez spencer. My suggestion is Back to more simplicity and skim each entree of ingredients, fat & a few dollars BTW... We had heirloom tomatos w wonderful basil sauce, but the kinda blue cheese overpowered the taste of tomato The steak was served w a very rich foie gras butter sauce but the i didn't have the taste of morels. It could have been whatever mushroom. The salsifis risotto was really good, each bite in your mouth was like a bite of butter. The only simple items we had was the veggie soup and the chocolate pudding served with ONLY a scoop of creme fraiche. Review #9270

Odd location, stunning space, great food We had the tasting menu. Everything was perfect. I have not had a selection of foods artfully presented, perfectly balanced and winningly served in a long time. While it's been written up in the Chron, it still feels like the perfect SF discovery. The only drawbacks was that the tables were too close together, with servers squeezing between tables. You can't go wrong here. Review #5555

What a find. Fantastic food, beautiful decor, and very friendly, helpful staff. Prices are reasonable given the quality of the food - definitely worth the cost. It's located out of the way, near Best Buy and Office Max, where is easy. I will come back here again. I just wish they were open for brunch. Review #3233
