“ I'm giving it a positive mark, with an explanation...The food is awesome. The chicken was moist and tender. I love the fact that there's a "help yourself" katsu & teriyaki station. But since people tend to compare Ono to L&L, I must do the same. Ono's portions are considerably smaller than L&L. They serve less meat & macaroni than L&L, and they give only one scoop of rice , whereas L&L gives two. And the prices are the same at both restaurants. I will be happy to eat at Ono again, but only if there's no L&L within reach. ”

“ It'll do if you're on this side of the Pacific. The portions are huge and cheap. I picked up one of those family packages for four and it satisfied 8 people. I would like the spam sushi better if they used sushi rice and nori sprinkles instead of sauce. For the price, it's superior to McD's etc. in taste. ”

“
This place is what I would call hawaiian wannabe barbeque. The chicken teriyaki is overly sweet and rubbery. I would not eat there again, no matter how cheap it is. The cabbage served on the side is gross. No flavor. Skip this place. ”

“ You can't really mess up a plate lunch as long as you stick to the "rice/rice/mac salad/ meat" formula.
I'm giving this a "neutral" rating because their gift certificate policy is horrible. I got a $10 gift certificate and bought a $6 (approx) plate lunch. I understand that most places won't give change in cash, but Ono wouldn't even give me the difference in credit. They simply told me it was a one-time use and that if I wanted to use the entire $10 that I needed to purchase $10 or more in food. This is bunk. This logic only applies when the certificates are promotional or sold at a discount. My sister-in-law paid the full $10.

“ I've really like the curry sauce that goes with the chicken katsu. I've ordered the ono family meal personally i think ordering it seperate is better because you get more of rice and macaroni salad which i love! The rice seems to sticky or something. I think they shouldn't give cabbages with the meals because my family hardly eats it because it's not cooked. There is a lot of parking spaces. Also don't forget to get the sauce that goes with the meals like the bbq & sweet & sour one. ”

“ This is a busy place with lots of takeout orders going out. Four of us had lunch here today and we all thought the food was pretty good. I ordered the seafood mix which comes with some fried shrimp, fried mahi mahi, and teriyaki chicken along with rice and macaroni salad. All of it was tasty if not exactly exciting. I think the fish was the best item - very tender and juicy even though it was fried. One question I have is how did macaroni salad become associated with hawaiian food. Lived in Hawaii for about 11 years and I don't recall anything about macaroni salad - maybe its just my memory playing tricks on me. My other companions ordered chicken teriyaki and kalbi ribs. The kalbi ribs were good - yea I tasted one - but you only get three with the meal. All of the food is served in takeout boxes or plates. The restaurant looked clean and the workers were friendly and helpful. If you are looking for inexpensive hawaiian style food this place is a good bet. ”

“ If you're looking for cheap eats, then check this place out. Ono hawaiian BBQ offers island favorites like chicken katsu, BBQ ribs, Spam moco, loco moco, etc. It's not BBQ in the traditional sense; it's more like japanese teriyaki grilling. Don't get me wrong; it's still good. They offer generous portions for about $6-7 per person. When this place first opened, it was 45 minutes to an hour wait for your order. But the crowds have died down as the initial hype subsides and similar places begin to spring up in the Bay Area. Indoor seating could be a little tight with all the people in line; but they offer outdoor seating too. I recommend just grabbing take-out and having a nice picnic somewhere. ”

“ What a treat this place is for anyone who has spent some time in the islands...plate lunches at their best {and most caloric}
the mixed combo had shrimp, mahi mahi and chicken on 2 big scoops of rice and accompanied with ...of course macaroni salad...You can help yourself to Katsu {spicy} and teriyaki sauce..the noodle soup was huge as was the salad but the salad was mostly iceberg lettuce.. we ate some of it at the outside tables in the plaza there, it was a really warm day {for a change}less than $20.00 for fast filing and fun meal..felt like we were eating a few memories with that feast. ”
