Negative Cuisine: Chinese Dim Sum Chinatown
This place is so filthy and disgusting...i could not believe it. i quickly ate some har gow and tea and left within 10 minutes...i'd never been treated so rudely at a chinatown restaurant nor had such a miserable dining experience...just go down the street to new asia for dim sum...it's a million times better. Negative Cuisine: Chinese Dim Sum Chinatown
Everything from the quality of food, atmosphere, cleanliness and service was horrific. If you are planning to go to Dol Ho and notice it is temporarily closed, don't go across the street to Y. Ben! Review #12310

Negative Cuisine: Chinese Dim Sum Chinatown
I Love dim sum, and spend many weekends seeking the next hidden gem...Y Ben has me asking "why dave" did you go into this scary restaurant. I'm pretty adventurous and was very open to new things during my last trip to Hong Kong and China, but Y Ben has to be on the low totem pole in regards to cleanliness. Hostess brought us to our table early...which was a mistake because I got to see the messy table they "attempted" to clean up so that we could be seated. Spit out chicken and pork bones all over the table were poorly swept onto a used plate with all the grease, etc. just spread out over the table. Requested to have the table wiped down a little more and was given a look like I was insane...and I was because we still braved the food. Shortest 2 dish dim sum dining experience for me...shrimp hargow with vegetables(nice) but gummy inedible shu mai. Packed, but I won't go back. One HUGE tip...do not go upstairs to the bathroom...scary, and too close to the kitchen if you ask me. Review #10899

Negative Cuisine: Chinese Dim Sum Chinatown
Ok...so I am NOT an unadventerous eater by ANY means. The whole reason I got my Hep a&b shots before I went to China was so I could eat crazy stuff----which i did. This place is AWFUL. Standard wait on a sunday. Got seated at a RIDICULOUSLY dirty table that we asked them to wipe down a couple more times---and it was still scary. As I was waiting for the first cleaning I was literally sticking to the floor it was sooooooooo dirty. A chinese couple sat down next to us and were TOTALLY prepared. They brought thier own plastic forks , teacups and hand sanitizer & wet naps to wipe the table---obviously been here before! We had a siu mai (gooey and not a good taste at all) and the shrimp dumpling which was actually pretty good. The place was PACKED ...a few hundred people...so the food may be good...if you come prepared. I definetly won't be back as the 2 items we tasted were not that great and there are too many other great spots to go through the cleanliness issue Review #10896

I went to Y Ben House with a small group of people for dim sum brunch on the weekend. We easily got one of the big round tables. Food was very tasty, and cheap. Not the cleanest place, as far as floor/ toilets, but this place is pretty big and seats a lot of people. Food quality was good though - no worries. Lots of chinese eat here. Review #10002

You will not find the people on Grant St. handing flyers out for this place. It doesn't get more authentic than this. Lunch was packed. Cavernous and LOUD, if you have a small group or are alone, you might have to share a table. Saw lots of food on the carts, can't go wrong with any. They have it all. You'll see all the normal stuff and some rare gems like the solid chunks of congealed blood. Staff speaks rudimentary english, have patience and have fun. Review #9675

Positive Cuisine: Chinese Dim Sum Chinatown
Y. Ben House is my favorite place for dim sum when I'm not hauling finicky/tentative companionship. It's windowless, spartan and a bit frayed at the seams, but 899 chinese butts + 1 gweilo butt in 900 seats don't complain. Anything with a seafood component is likely to be very good, and the seafood chow fun is my favorite of all Chinatown dim sum palace "special order" items. ALL the savory items are full-flavored, cardiological correctness be damned, and its prices rival Lichee Garden's for the best in Chinatown. It's the anti-Yank Sing, if you ask me. Review #8823
