“ Oh how bad could this place be, was my question to my friend who said that this place was ok, opening the door. The half empty place was lack of any happy eaters and as we were motioned to a table, then ignored for at least 10 minutes. As our unfriendly waiter came and threw the menus on the table we were amazed that the entrees were all over 22 bucks or more. Since we both decided that we really didn't want to spend that kind of money on a plate of vegetables (not that there is anything wrong with that) we decided on a plate of fries and a spring roll. We also figured a couple of drinks from the bar, but noooo the waiter came over, and as we gave him or order, he said “Is that it? Is that all your having? You're kidding?” Guess what, we both looked at each other, and both told him almost simultaneously, hey forget it, and walked out! This is the first time in years that I have stormed out of establishment because the wait staff attitude! I don't think vegans are happy ”

“ A little pricey, but you'll love this place even if you're a carnivour. Servers are very attentive. We had the Maple Glazed Smoked Tempeh with garlic horseradish mashed potatoes and the Charmoula Grilled Portobello Mushroom. Flavors are intense and the dishes really filling. We didn't even have room for dessert. ”

“
i was invited to a birthday party here. i was not too excited. First, i looked at the menu online and noticed that most of the dishes consisted of mushroom something-or-other, and i dislike mushrooms immensely (although i am a huge fan of truffle oil). Second, i don't even come close to being a vegetarian. i considered eating a carnitas burrito before i went but i was late and had no time to sneak one in. once our food came, i was delighted. it was fantastic! i was so satiated-the flavors were amazing! the service however was a little snotty. especially the sommelier-or whom i assume was the sommelier. i can't wait to find more places in SF where people actually WANT to serve you delicious food. ”

“ Everyone at our table was disappointed with their dishes. The menu descriptions sounded so delightful, but upon receiving them and then tasting them, we were all pretty disenchanted. example: a vegetable ravioli consisted of diced vegetables sandwiched between two slithers of radish. Bumma.

“ I had a great time at Millennium. Very swanky, considering my college-student status. Great food. I highly recommend the tempeh. I was slightly disappointed with what they did to our mushroom appetizer, but it didn't put a damper on the evening. The decor is slightly confused (masculine good ol' boys meets a new age-y earthy look), but overall I thoroughly enjoyed the entire meal. I'd go back tomorrow. ”

“ If you love cress, figs, chanterelles, and other high-cuisine produce, Millennium does those special ingredients up beautifully. Plates all fall in the $19-$21 range, which isn't bad for an upscale restaurant, especially if you're excited by fanciful ingredients. The wine list is top-notch and all organic. The menu changes seasonally; get the creole black and red bean chowder if they have it ($6.50). The tasting menu dinner costs $65 per person, takes two hours, and includes wine pairings. Service is exceptional and most importantly, totally down to earth and made me feel at ease. Millennium is located inside the Savoy Hotel, and the restaurant, with vaulted ceilings and hanging fabrics, feels like an old New York steakhouse. O the irony. ”

“ Everything here was delicious. I will admit to not knowing what everything WAS, but I was not disappointed. Nothing over/under cooked. And the bread spread was a delightful change from just butter or even olive oil and vinegar. Good service. Hefty prices though, so save this for a special occasion. The decor is upscale nice, but a little impersonal. ”

“ When there's $8 of product on my plate, in the right place, I can live with paying a triple markup. When there is 93 cents of product on my plate however, prices at Millennium are the equivalent of charging $160 for $8 worth of product, which is not cool, even if Thomas Keller and Alice Waters teamed up to make it. It would not be cool, even if they fed it to me, and Thomas rubbed my shoulders and Alice whispered naughty limericks in my ear between bites... ”

“ Bland, comes to mind. I was expecting so much flavor since this is vegan and they've got so many ways to boost up the flavor, but not enough for my tastes. The worst part was the service. I'm sure they're all not like this, but this guy literally wanted our party of 6 out of there. He wanted to go home and it showed by every facial expression. Then he would disappear in the kitchen and come back angry because we wanted dessert. I won't go back, neither will my 5 friends. ”

“ Decent food, but a 'neutral' rating for the price ($$$). Portions are not huge, so don't head there with too big an appetite. Otherwise, the food is innovative and tasty, with a lot of vegan analogues of American favorites (like chops & mashed potatoes, I think). Classy atmosphere. ”

“ I've eaten at Millenium a few times and I must say it is quite delicious. Vegan, Shmegan. It doesn't matter if you're a carnivore, an omnivore, or a herbivore, I promise you will enjoy the innovative creations that this restaurant has to offer. I will always remember the Portobello "steak" I had there. I'm surprised at some of the reviews I've read here for Millenium. Especially, about the rude waitstaff as I experienced the contrary. Perhaps the waiters were just having a bad day...too much spinach in their diet? ”

“ Our waiter ignored us outright and was slow/inattentive (we're a young couple that doesn't look like we have money to spend - maybe that's why?)
The food, however, was INCREDIBLE and almost made up for it. ”

“ Forget the whole vegan aspect of this restaurant. The food is amazing. I once had a dessert there that almost made me cry. I am not kidding. It was lemon and lavender sorbet and it tasted like summer. Perfect. ”

“ I've brought meat-lover friends to Millennium and even THEY were thoroughly impressed. If you've ever been doubtful about the combination of flavours one can achieve without meat or meat by-products, you need to book into Millennium. The food is fantastic and tasty on any measure. The asian Napolean is one of my favourite dishes, as is the Millennium Plate, which looks like meatloaf and potatoes from the midwest. I preferred their old location by city hall, but the new location is bigger so they can accommodate more patrons. The desserts are also very delicious. ”

“ I'm a huge carnivore and have been to Millenium twice and loved it both times. I brought my parents (carnivores) as a surprise healthy experience and thought they would be repelled (part of the fun for me) but everyone had a great meal. We all had different things and I tasted everything, and it all hit the mark. Very satisfying too, so not to worry if you are used to a good hunk of meat to sate your appetite, you won't leave hungry. But you have to enter with an open mind, as their self-imposed limitations (being veg/vegan) means they use different tricks of the trade to impress, but they are very good at what they do. ”

“ I thought this would be a nice place to try with my mom, who is vegan. Three of us arrived around 5pm on a Tuesday evening and, though the place was almost empty, the Maitre'd gave us a superior look and insisted that everything was reserved for the night. We decided to have a few appetizers and drinks and then eat somewhere else. All three dishes we ordered were mediocre at best. A pineapple salsa was especially bland and soggy. We were able to look at many of the main courses as they came out and overall, the presentation was terrible. The special drinks also lacked zest. Wait staff made up in attitude and tattoos what they lacked in quality. One of the worst dining experiences I've had in the city. When we left about an hour later, the restaurant was no more than half full. Way too much attitude for what it delivers. ”

“ I took my visiting mom there last week. The food was delicious, with many subtle flavors and was presented beautifully. The waiter ignored us for most of our time there, he helped those around us & didn't seem to notice our table; the pair who got there after us, finished earlier, and they ordered an extra course &wine. Ex 2) It was very drafty; my mom was freezing & when she told the waiter, he did nothing but eventually, gave us her $4 tea for free. Pretty place. Good food. Horrible service. ”

“ ive been a couple times, though not to the new location. Our whole party was pleased with the delectible works of art that are so good (the carnivores) forgot it was vegetarian. M also has an extensive wine list with organic and biodynamic wines. ”

“ I've been to a number of the special themed dinners (mushroom, farmer's market, tomato, pepper), and they've all been wonderful. Nice atmosphere, very good gourmet food. Sometimes a dish falls flat - but most of the dishes are outstanding. Nice drink pairings too.
Just attended the "Chili and Beer" pairing, and it was an astounding meal! Most of the beer pairings were brilliant. And the food.. the food... particularly standing out in my mind were the indian summer vegetables with smoked cherries (yes!) baked in phillo dough over saffron scented beans (i forget what kind of beans,oh no) with a spicy pomegranate pepper coulis. Over the top, really! And that was only one of the 6 courses.
I've never been to Millennium on a normal night, but their special nights have never let me down. ”
