“
THIS PLACE IS THE BOMB SUSH!!! I don't know where you guys go for sushi but this place is great!! It is down the street from my house and rocks the sushi boat!! Michael and Tony are behind the sushi bar and are super friendly and helpful guiding you toward the days catch. The Hamachi is imported from Japan..most is from the us and chewy..it is like butter here...the oysters are great, fatty toro is off the hook. I highly recommend it...better than zushi puzzle only because its like half price..saki, saporro, special rolls, nigiri..all under $60 bucks..I highly recommend it ”

“
Eeew. This restaurant is horrible. Someone gave me a gift certificate for my birthday and after eating there I told my friend I loved the gesture, but it was a complete waste of money. The food is awful - teriyaki is gloppy and the sushi expensive & made cheaply. Not worth the time or money. ”

“ I've been here a few times and first of all, they have a back room for reservations for parties of 10+. The food is a bit expensive. They have a sushi list that you can mark up and choose from, but they don't list the prices. The last time I went there, they overcharged me $5 on my card, and the first time I called them about it, a lady answered and told me that my card didn't even show up in their receipts and only two people had paid with credit cards that day (which is a lie). The next time I called, they confirmed my receipt and said they didn't overcharge me and it must be my bank's fault. I have yet to figure it out, but I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. ”

“ I went there recently and the food was terrible. Fried fish was super fishy and almost inedible. sushi was below normal. Could not wait to get out. Totally a waste of my time. Not open for lunch but website says so but when we got there, it was closed. I was of course pissed. All the way there for nothing. And then to "eat" their food. Yuck. Place is well known and I remember going there years ago and it was good. But last 2 times were terrible. So many places better than this.

“ The sushi rolls were fresh and the service is really friendly. The sizzling Sea Bass was really good and I ordered a roll the way I requested it and they were happy to make it for me. ”

“ Even though this is a chinese-run japanese restaurant, they do a good job. Before it was politically incorrect to eat Chilean Sea Bass, this is what I always ordered here.
They do an excellent job on their tempura, with a light, not overly-greasy batter.
I usually get the Unaju (eel). My wife usually gets sushi, which is very good, and made to order, not floating around on silly boats.
One negative, is that a relative went here once with her two children (around 8 and 9 y.o.) and the waitress insisted that they must order three entrees, rather than their usual practice of two entrees and some side orders. I would have probably escalated this to the manager, but she didn't.
I usually avoid non-japanese run japanese restaurants, but this is an exception. ”

“ My experience here was alright.. sushi rolls were decent but they gave us the wrong order which we had to pay for but I don't mind because we ate it. If you want some decent fast sushi, you should come check it out. ”

“ This place is good or their grilled fish. I chose the petrale a really tasty choice. Veggies on next to the grilled fish is a generous portion of bean sprouts, so it's nothing really special. The sauce which is really tasty, makes up for it.
For dessert you get ice cream. Go for the grean tea if given a choice. ”

“ Once you enter, you know right away that this is not an authentic japanese restaurant. Staff is all chinese (not knocking coz I'm chinese). Pros: food comes fast, sushi and combos are cheap, you get alot for your money, service is fast, people are friendly. Cons: not real authentic japanese, food comes fast coz most of it is probably prepared ahead of time (e.g. teriyaki is probably kept on a hot plate and dished out), worst of all the tempura batter was way overdone. I couldn't even taste the shrimp, there was so much batter on it. And it wasn't light in texture the way it should be. Sashami was still a little bit frozen, so you know they just took it out of the freezer and sliced it. There are always lines here so I guess people really like the cheap prices and hot food. I won't be back but I won't dog it either with a negative for the two reasons just mentioned.

“ Okazu Ya has a few other locations in San Francisco. If you're not in the mood for sushi I'd recommend this place for their great tasty grilled fish of the day. Their fish entree, which are pretty filling w/ good portions of sauteed veggies [bean sprouts, shredded carrots and peas] comes with rice, also. Their entree also includes miso soup and a scoop of ice cream. The hot flat-iron fish entrees just enhances your 5 senses. On a busy night, the service is slow because the servers seem to be a bit inexperienced. BTW, you'll smell like the food so be prepared, and plan accordingly. ”
