Positive Cuisine: Cuban Hayes Valley
As a graduate from The California Culinary Academy in Sf, I'd like to think I know a little something about food. Laurel's in Hayes Valley is probably the best cuban food I have had in SF. The menu has a large variety of dishes from seafood to vegetarian, and I really like the fact that for lunch you can order from a variety of combination plates. The dishes I was served were all unique in flavors, and cooked well. The atmosphere is fun and eclectic, but I can't say much good about the service. Our waiter, the tall bald gentleman, was far from graceful or welcoming. Review #21371

Tough call on this place. I grew up in Miami so I know cuban food. This place is great for anyone who has neve had it before. I'd get the Ropa Vieja if you go. It's a solid dish that never let's you down. Review #8997

Nice cuban food. Pretty casually paced service, but all the food was worth the wait. Would definitley recommend. Review #8697

Positive Cuisine: Cuban Hayes Valley
Ate at Laurel's for the first time, after walking past it for over a year. It's very unpretentious, just great cuban food at reasonable prices. There is a huge menu, a lot of seafood dishes but really a little of everything. I had Ropa Vieja, which is a shredded beef stew, with rice and plantains. It was perfect. They have a full liquor license and serve pitchers of sangria. The funky/tacky decor (crepe paper happy birthday banner is hanging, for those last minute birthday dinners I guess) adds to the charm of this little neighborhood gem. Located directly behind Paul K.
