“ A.G. Ferrari isn't an every day stop for me, but once a year or so it's worth the splurge to pick up some specialty italian groceries, like imported coffee, olives, or holiday cakes (I hear they carry a "drunken panettone" for about 30 bucks). As for lunch, there are better deals to be had in almost all the SF neighborhoods where there's an A.G.F.: Soma, Laurel Village, and Castro, off the top of my head -- but if you're unfamiliar with the area, it's a solid winner for freshness. The sandwiches are a bit pricey for a hunk of bread with meat and cheese (or tapenade, or artichoke spread, or roasted red peppers, etc.), but the ingredients are pretty much guaranteed to be high quality. The $5.99 to $8.29 panini/panino menu can be a bit overwhelming, though. If you thought you knew exactly what you wanted when you first walked in, be prepared to be lured by other combinations. ”

“ The place looks so exciting with all of the different cans and bottles from Italy. You just can't wait to taste the food. Still, I found the sandwich I ordered to be pricey and nothing to really rave about.

“ This place was so great when it opened. I really loved it. Unfortunately, it's not as good as it was then. It's lost some of it's authenticity in favor of a more canned approach. Not horrible, just not as good as at first. ”

“ A friend took me here once and we grabbed sandwiches to go. I did notice that the prices were a bit higher for sandwiches but I didn't know how much exactly my friend spent for the sandwiches. I only ate half of the sandwich, there was something about the taste I didn't like. ”

“ AG Ferrari is no Molinari's, but it will do for a Sunday picnic. If it is your local, you're a lucky ducky. Expect to be corrected if your sandwich is not to your liking, but expect a good sandwich nonetheless. ”

“ This place is a great deli with all kinds of gourmet foods. They can make you sandwiches to go, and they have prepared salads of all kinds. The food is great, esp. if it is a business expense! Otherwise, it is pricey. ”

“ Everything here is to die for! I am not a fan of frozen entrees that one buys and heats up in the oven at home. But their lazagne was really out of this world. It tasted almost as though it was baked fresh. It was flavorful, but not overly so. The sandwiches were pretty delicious too. You can't go wrong here. Oh yeah, the staff was super friendly and accomodating. ”

“ Generally nice food, great decor and ambience, helpful staff....but REALLY expensive for what you get (for the imported italian stuff especially...ridiculous). I've gotten a few items there and recreated them in my own kitchen for a fraction of the price, so I have to give thanks to A.G. Ferrari for plenty of inspiration! ”

“ I have had snacks from here off and on. Yesterday I grabbed a bunch of apps to take home to my sweetie for dinner. YUCK. I spent $17 and threw 1/2 of it away. Their sausages, cheese and some of their sandwiches are good...but they are overpriced and there are a lot of better spots to pick up these items...say the deli at the ferry building :) or Molonaris in North Beach...or... :) ”

“ Great italian import deli/supermarket. Lots of groceries that are from artisan manufacturers in Italy. Great cheese selection, decent deli sandwiches. Look for seasonal items that are unique to their locations. ”

“ Their sandwiches are not bad, and I enjoyed their large assortment of olives. It's a chain, but it's a good place to get a quick bite of food. ”

“ This little chain has lots of gourmet goodies. I love to grab sandwiches from here before ball games and let everyone around us drool over our shoulders.
I also highly recommend their frozen lasagnas and eggplant parmasiana. An instant meal that your guests will beleive you slaved over because it tastes too good to be frozen. ”
