This is the place I go after I read some manga. The best is the green tea and red bean paste crepe. It sounds like a strange combo, but trust me....very very good. It can get crowded at times, but thankfully the people who make the crepes are skilled so you don't get holey crepes. Great place for a date if you are in Japantown because all the places you can sit and eat are just small enough for two people to sit nice and close ;) Review #21210

It's really not what I think of when I think of crepes. I think of a stack of soft, sweet things my mom used to make for breakfasts and dinners sometimes. these are crispy and incredibly thin. these can be made into rolled sandwiches or desserts. i tried them as a dessert with my niece. i thought the ingredients were waaaaaaay toooooo sweet, but they were just what she wanted. i think they'd make a good sandwich, but i wasn't trying one that day. i wouldn't buy the dessert again for myself because it was an incredible sugar shock, but i'd try the sandwich. Yummy crepes! They remind me of Taipei's Ke Li Bing, which are more like big waffle cones, except the cone is a crunchy crepe. I got the strawberry and nutella crepe. It was the perfect size, with really fresh strawberries that perfectly complimented the thick nutella. Prices are a bit high for what you get, but the crepes are worth it... they're delish! A lot of people I know like to go to Sophie's Crepes so I tried it couple of times. I didn't think it was all that different than other places except that it has more ingredients. The crepe itself tastes the same. Review #20093

I have a hankering for street food more than I'd like to admit. But San Francisco isn't so ripe with dirty-water wiener sellers and pretzel men. So I have to rely on the alternatives. Enter Sophie's. A friend dragged me here for crepes once before a movie at Kabuki. He insisted that I not eat lunch and that we splurge on something special. My crab and avocado crepe, for about $6 or $7, was plentiful and not at all flimsy, served in some sturdy cardboard instead of a paper cone. I could walk all over hell and back without spilling a single luscious lump of seafood. Mayonnaise was liberally squirted from a picnic style bottle all about the chunky crab meat, much to my enjoyment. The next time in the neighborhood, I'll try to remember to save room not for lunch, but for dessert, given the fantastic experience everyone else has had here with the gooey, chocolatey crepes. one of the yummiest crepe place I can find. Not only do you get to pick different variety of things to put inside the crepe, you get to see them make it through a see through window. The smell of the crepe kinda pulls you in =P The price is decent and the crepe they give you do fill you up... so i always try not to eat too much before getting a crepe =P Review #17838

Nice hangout when in Japan town. Good crepes and OK gelato (don't know what brand they use, but frozen hard as a rock & flavor intensity was medium). Recommend the japanese dessert crepes w/ azuki red bean paste and maccha green tea sauce w/ or w/ out gelato. Review #16337

one of the first crepes i been to. They are quite yummy for dessert and for just a snack. I like their Ham n Cheese a lot, not sure why cause i'm not a big ham a cheese person. The ice cream/fruit crepes are really good too, not too sweet. Just about right overall. The service is really nice and welcoming, always with a smile. I like Sophie's Crepes and Sophie's crepes likes me! Review #16157

I'm a closet crepe whore and I've tasted most of the crepe places in the city. I guess I'm just not into the "crispy" over cooked crepes. They are not like that in Japan when I go there. Try "Belly Good Crepes" in the same mall and you'll see what I mean. Review #15336

After dining out before going to a concert at the Fillmore, my fiance really wanted some gelato. I thought, where are we going to find gelato in Japantown? Well, the guy at Starbucks directed us here, and my guy was SOOOO happy. It was fun to watch them make the crepe, and fun to eat it as well, as it was rolled into a cone shape to hold the gelato. We'd never had anything like it, and we would definitely go back again. Review #12167

you MUST get crepes here if you are ever in japantown. Not just any crepe, you should really try the japanese crepe. The green tea gelato, red beans, and matcha sauce go sooo well together. It's definitely not something you can get anywhere. It's also fun watching the guy make your crepe and fill it with all the goodies. Review #11571

Eating at Sophie's is one of my guilty pleasures. I always order F, which is strawberries, kiwi, banana, whip cream, and ice cream. They also have a lot of odd sounding ones like egg salad crepe, ham sandwich crepe, chicken salad crepe, and many more. The lines can be pretty long though but you can pass the time by watching them make the crepe. They also received a 100 out of 100 for the health inspection. *Note they don't allow video camera's or camera's. Review #10838

I just went to Genki on Clement St between 4th and 5th and had an amazing ice cream crepe. While eating, I realized how overpriced and bad tasting Sophie's Crepes was. After coming to this realization, I rush back to downgrade Sophie's to negative. Review #6466

Their green tea gelato beats any other green tea ice cream/gelato in town! I never stray from the japanese crepe, absolutely love their macha sauce. Though they are kind of weird about giving that to you if you don't order a crepe, even if you offer to pay for it. Not the nicest people who work there, but ah for ice cream, who cares! Review #6227

Just thinking about the crepes at Sophie's makes my mouth water. It is such a lite and delicate crepe, filled to the brim with fruit, nutella, whipped cream or whatever toppings you want. Big enough to share, good enough to make you want to order another right after you finish. Just remember, when dining in J-town, you need to save room for dessert, and that dessert being Sophie's. As you climb the grand staircase of Kinokuniya Plaza to the second floor you will be arrested by an enticing aroma that seems to come from a far away land called Yummy. Nope, that would be Sophie's Crepes. I heart this place. They make fresh crepes in front of your eyes and you choose what filling you want to put in it. Savory or Sweet? That is the question in front of you. Gelato with nutella and banana or Egg salad with lettuce and tomato? I've had them both and I must say - "delish!" So go have your crepe fix, but you might want to take someone with you. These crepes are pretty big and sharing might be the only way to finish a whole one. Sophie's Crepes are 'oishi'! Review #5328

Closeted behind the many stores in Japantown Center is Sofies. No mere cone could do this gelato-style ice cream justice...that's why Sophie uses freshly made, before your eyes yummy crepes. Only the freshest ingredients, fruits and sauces go into these desserts. I have so many favorites - what a great idea, the've opened a new one in North Beach. Review #3732

I've never tried their savory crepes, but I really enjoy the dessert crepes. I like how thin they make their crepes. You can also stand outside the window and watch them make the crepes. I've seen a lot of people taping how they make the crepes. You can put anything you want in the crepe, or order off their pre-set menu. My favorite is the japanese crepe. It's served with green tea gelato, azuki beans (red beans), and macha (green tea) sauce. It's so good! I like to eat one of these crepes after I've had a meal in one of the Japantown restaurants.
