I paid a high price for their ceasar crab salad, but the crab was truly fresh and I didn't have to sit there and work my way through my meal. My dining partner was enamored with his clams. It's crowded, small and there is probably a wait, but I liked it a little bit more than Swan's. Not that any of us had room after dunking heaps of bread into his clam sauce, but they didn't offer a dessert menu. Service was attentive and friendly. Review #21290

This is my favorite seafood restaurant in SF. The prices may be a little high, but you are paying for freshness and quality that are not matched by any other restaurant in the city. Everything I've had there has been excellent. One of my favorites is the Dungeness crab burger for lunch. I try to go there at least once a week. Review #17359

Too far away from the ocean, too far inland for good seafood! They must have it delivered by limousine to garner the prices for the food. I didn't like it! Prices or the food, Period! Review #13084

Bizarre place for the Castro. It has GREAT seafood. Amazing chowder. Incredible every time I have been there. But-it is one of the most expensive place in the neighborhood despite looking like a diner from the outside and even more bland on the inside. It is tiny and has no style at all. Review #9671

I have eaten at Anchor Oyster 5-6 times. They offer an assortment of fresh oysters that are delicious every time. I could dine on their oysters and crab cakes alone. However, their specials always tempt me. They offer three specials to choose from as an option to their consistent menu of seafood salads(seafood is piled high), chowder, crab cakes, etc. Their scallop special was my favorite. It is pricey but satisfying... and you may find a line due to the small dining area. It was always worth the wait. Anchor is a favorite hidden secret in the Castro that is spread by word of mouth... A great place for a date or intimate dinner with a couple of friends and family. Wines complement dishes well. Not a good place for large parties. Review #9520

Anchor Oyster Bar is No Swans Oyster Depot. It sucks because coming across Anchor Oyster Bar, you think you've hit a hidden jackpot. I'll do a side by side, blow by blow comparison: Anchor, bland chowder, Swans amazing chowder: winner Swans. Oyster shooter at Anchor are a draw. seafood combination salad: Anchor's had 1 paltry prawn, alot of bay shrimp, and a small lump of crab...Swans is overflowing with all the above including chunks of lobster when they're feeling generous. Didn't try anything else @ Anchor Oyster Bar because frankly...$20 for a seafood combo salid which won't come even close to Swans combo salad @ $16 had me thinking I need to catch a cab to get my a** over to Swans. The service was pretty poor as well. I hate giving bad reviews, but I don't know who eats here beside the clueless? Swans wins with a TKO hand down. Review #8123

I walked by here today and HAD to stop...it seems like its a great little spot ...of course in the back of my mind Im thinking...Swans...its NOT. Tried the chowder--OK. Oyster shooter---pretty decent..the oyster was so big It damn near got stuck in my throat...ikke sa godt. Combination cocktail---decent. The prices are VERY pricey---and not worth it in my humble opinion. SWANs is my all time favorite. Service was kinda slow and a bit off...can't recommend Review #8119

I want to love this place. It has a great look, and a great counter, and it's been around for an awfully long time. BUT, it's simply is not worth the price. The seafood in the crab and lobster cocktails and salads is fresh and delicious, but portions are very small. The quality of the fish in the dinner plates is good, but the accompanying veges and rice are dull and detract from the dishes overall. sadly, this princess would have to suggest that you pass on this place. I don't get this place. Crab salad for $30 dollars? No way. I have walked by this place so many times that I decided to try it out and after looking at the prices, I opted for a small cup of clam chowder. It was not memorable. Review #5179

This is great, but a little spendy. The clean dinner atmosphere is nice. Staff have always been friendly. The food never fails. I have suffered the parking nightmare when on a search for a Crab Louie. Hot meals have always been cooked just right. Chowder is not my bag, though. Review #4118
