A great classic San Francisco restaurant with fresh cook to order food. There are not too many things on the menu, but what is there is good! Whether Cheese Burgers, Steaks, Chicken Sandwich or Baked Potato, they are all fresh and tasty. The recent remodel looks great and has a much warmer feel. Prices are very reasonable too.

Another one of my neighborhood hang outs. It is a great beer house with good wines as well, but people don't realize that they have an extensive menu with lots of American food. I get the burger or the grilled cheese here which are both excellent. The fries are also really good. Try the food sometime, since it's not just a beer house!

I can throw a rock from my balcony and hit this place. I am half Japanese and I am picky about Japanese food. Yikes, I expected better from this place since it is in a major touristy area. Well, the gyoza was not fresh and quite oily. My stomach was not raving about the food about 30 minutes after leaving. I won't get into detail.

I'm a dessert addict so I had to try these cream puffs. It was large and oozing with custard which I loved. Big mistake, DO NOT inhale the powdered sugar when taking a bite! You will cough it up and make a fool of yourself. I did it once, now I'm on a crusade to warn the rest of the world.

Right in my North Beach neighborhood is this little place. There are not too many Vietnamese places so I'm happy it's here, but I was not overly impressed. The Pho was very average and the broth seemed watery. Imperial rolls are ok, but not as good as Tu Lan. I've been spoiled by the Pho at Bodega Bistro, so now that's my new standard.

I had one of the best burgers at Burger Joint. It was called the Mini Double Cheese. I was expecting the little slider burger, but it was just smaller than the average size burger. The taste was amazing and oozing with cheese! Also, there was grilled onions on top. I would say the burger was "almost" as good as Mo's Burgers. The fries were natural cut and freshly made. So hot, I could hardly eat them.

I live about one block from O'Reilly's so I finally tried it. I went with a friend and we thought we would try some fattening food. I had the beef stew that was good, but the beef was a little old and tough. My friend had the Fish & Chips. The Fish was pretty average, but the fries were absolutely hard and soaked with oil. It looked like the fries were old and cold, then put back in the fryer to warm up. It didn't work too well. He regretted not sending it back to the kitchen. I'm sure there are other dishes that are not as bad. I'll give it another try. I've seen their breakfast's and they look quite good!

This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants! Caffe Sport doesn't even sound Italian, but I assure you, it is. I love the old school funky decor. There is art scattered all over the walls. The bread with the dipping sauce is amazing. I love the Caesar Salad here! More than enough dressing and very tangy and lots of garlic. The pasta with mussels is very good. I had another pasta and I can't remember the name, but it was every bit as good. I really recommend you try this place if you are coming to North Beach.

A rare find in the tenderloin. By the name, it doesn't seem like it would be a good choice for Vietnamese food, but don't be fooled. You need to go try it. The meats and veggies are fresh and tasty. Best of all, when you order the Pho, the soup actually tastes good, unlike so many Pho places where the soup just tastes like salt water with no flavor. The Imperial Rolls are good also, comparable to Tulan. I noticed they had Pad Thai on the menu which surprised me. I'll be back soon.

The Ramp has a nice "local" setting on the water. It is hard to just stumble across this place. You have to know where it is to find it. It has a typical burger menu and is quite limited. What an amazing new place! Local is slightly hidden in the SOMA area across from the Metropolitan Condos. There is an energy that is hard to explain, but it seems when you walk in, everyone is having a great time. It has a couple of bars set away from each other, so you have a choice where to congregate. There is a family style table in the center and then surrounded by smaller tables. The food is incredible from what I've tried. I loved the Organic Farmed Chicken which was only $16! I had the Herb Fries with it which made it a simple but very tasty meal. I also tasted the Organic Mushroom Pizza. Great taste and might be what I get on my next trip. They also serve breakfast and lunch. Simple meals with very reasonable prices and an ambiance to impress your friends. Great wine list from either the menu or the merchant store.

Ok, I had to take my dad to an old style San Francisco seafood place so I thought of Alioto's. It is in the best location and really has the feel of a great restaurant, but when you go, you might be in for a disappointment. I believe most of the wait staff have been there for many years. The service is impersonal and hurried, similar to many Chinese restaurants where the food is just dropped and they run. It is mediocre at best and has potential for great improvement. I believe this restaurant does very well with tourist traffic so they don't need to improve. Most tourists go there one time and never come back. There is an endless supply of tourists to keep this restaurant profitable for a long time.

Great cozy little restaurant which sits right on the corner of Columbus and Stockton. I literally sat in the corner of the restaurant where the two sidewalks meet so I was able to slide the window open when it got too hot. As for the service, it really helps to be a cute, sexy Asian girl so you can get the best service. I watched as the waiter slobbered all over this girl and offered her his own mints and his website/e-mail address as well. Of course we sat and waited while all this was going on. He eventually had time to come see us. The Lasagna was great! Better than I expected. I also had the pizza that was very good. For dessert, I tried the panna cotta and it was no disappointment. It was creamy, sweet and freshly made. Not a bad place for a tourist restaurant, but next time I might consider wearing a short skirt for better service.

Cinque Terre Restaurante is not on the main strip of restaurants. It's off of Columbus on Vallejo which makes it hard to see. I think with it can attract more people with a little better signage and a new frontal design. Inside the restaurant, it is very cozy and well decorated. The service is great with very attentive wait staff. One of the best features is the Pizza. Real Italian thin crust pizza, with good mozzarella and tangy sauce. One pizza is about the perfect size for a dinner. Give this place a try and you won't be disappointed.

This restaurant is off the beaten path of the restaurants near Columbus & Broadway. It's couple blocks towards the wharf which makes it a little more exclusive. There is sidewalk dining if that's what you prefer. There is a small bar for seating also, so it's a great place to grab a bite by yourself. This place was crowed even at 10pm at night! The pizzette was good, but not the best I've had. Maybe a little more sauce would have helped. I'll have to say, the Dungeness Crab Ravioli was perfect! It was in a light cream sauce with spinach pasta. I had the Profiteroles for dessert which was a little disappointing. Just not as fresh as I would like.

I just moved into North Beach and I found this place because it was open until 2am. It's the typical tiny old burger joint that has kept it's consistency throughout the years. The Cheeseburger is the best! Steaming hot when you get it and not so oversized that you can't finish it. The pizza is good if it's freshly made. You can buy a medium pizza for about 8 bucks! I just wonder who Sam is? Mike is the owner.

I finally had a chance to try Dosa with a friend after hearing about all the hype. Luckily we got right in without a wait. I wasn't too thrilled with the food and I've had a lot of Indian food from the South Bay so I know enough to judge. The Chennai Chicken was somewhat bland and didn't taste much different than the same dish for half the price elsewhere. The Tamil Lamb Curry was just ok. Not so fantastic like I heard from everyone. Maybe I just ordered the wrong dishes? The best part of the meal was the dessert. I love Gulab Jamoon and it was great except there was only 2 of the pasty balls. I was ready for about 10! Well, maybe I'll try something different next time.

I heard about this restaurant from a friend and I am always excited to try a new Japanese restaurant. There were a few dishes that I really enjoyed. The Spicy Seafood Teppanyaki was fantastic! Not too spicy and very unique and tasty. The Spinach Tofu Gomei was a little bland, so I really had to use a lot of the sauce to bring life to it. The winner was the Shrimp Salad in Eggplant. I don't know the exact name, but this is what I think it was. It was a baked shrimp and eggplant salad, baked directly in the eggplant shell. The sauce was so sweet and full of flavor. It reminded me of a good macaroni & cheese.
The only negatives I can think of were the lighting. I can't understand why some restaurants have beautiful decor and mood lighting, then have ugly fluorescent lighting shining in from the kitchen. It really ruins all the ambiance that the restaurant is trying to achieve. Betelnut does a good job of keeping the mood lighting soft while having an open kitchen.

I was taken here for breakfast one morning and didn't even knew it existed. I asked Darla how the Eggs Benedict was and I could swear she said it was "f___kin good"! I tried it anyway and it was good, but I don't know if it was "f___kin good". I like a little more sauce on it. The breakfast potatoes were great. Tiny little Pan-Asian restaurant situated off the beaten path of North Beach. The restaurant is usually full, so reservations are recommended. The food didn't rock my world although it was good. I tried Straits for lunch a few days ago and it was packed! We were seated promptly by the cutest hostess. We decided to get a few small plates instead of the entrees. The Roti bread was delicious when dipped in the curry sauce. The Ahi Tartare was quite good. The Garlic Noodles were very tasty without an over powering garlic taste. We also tried a noodle dish that was the best of all the small plates. There was only one bad dish and that was a veggie dish with black bean sauce. It was so salty, I had to wipe the sauce off. I'm a salt lover and let me tell you, the chef must have dropped the whole salt shaker in there by mistake. I'm sure it will be corrected and the dish was cordially taken off our bill. I want to go back for dinner!

Juni was a great experience. The decor is very hip and modern with the usual Asian touches. I tried the Teppan style dinner first. They do have a very nice sushi bar and restaurant seating area also. They have a 7 course prix-fixe which is the best choice for the Teppan. We had an appetizer , soup and salad to start. Everything was very flavorful and well presented. I ordered the Sea Bass which was prepared on the table. It had the best flavor without any sauce! So flaky and tender, but not overcooked. Dessert is included in the meal, but you can upgrade as well. I'll try the sushi bar next time.

I often crave Indian food, but I never know what new things to order. Thanks to my dear Indian friend, I was able to try a couple of things. First we started with the garlic and onion Naan Bread. The garlic was quite strong, but delicious just the same. I wanted some chicken so we had the Chicken Tikka Masala. The curry was spiced just right and very flavorful. We then ordered the Palak Paneer, which is spinach and cheese cooked with exotic spices. That was a meal in itself.

I had a great meal at Soluna. I had a drink in the bar prior to dinner to just check out the staff and customers. It seemed that there was a very mixed crowd of civic center employees and locals. I decided to try the Prix Fixe on the menu and was talked into the Scallops appetizer. This was by far the best Scallops I've had, mainly because of the incredible sauce! I am known for licking my plate. I followed with the Sea Bass which was equally as tasty. My friend had the New York Steak which I tried and thought it was very well prepared. Very impressive. I was pleased with each and every course that came to the table. The great thing about the food here is you can taste every ingredient. I believe that is what makes cooking an art, not just the presentation. Service is almost perfect and they past every one of my tests. A very elegant dining room, although my only criticism is the entry to the restaurant. The hostess stand is right in the middle of the dining area and it is also used by the servers for storing water. I believe the reception area should be more towards the front, with some massive artwork blocking the busy lobby area.

I was not overly joyed when I tried their desserts here. I was looking for some type of "signature" item or "trademark" dessert, but there were none. I was disappointed with this restaurant because I read so many good reviews on it. It wasn't a total let down, but there were several things that I noticed. This restaurant needs a DEEP cleaning. The carpets were soiled and stained with food, which I noticed despite the dark atmosphere. Why would you have a dimly lit dining area, then put fluorescent lights over the artwork??!! The Caviar and Egg Custard was just ok. We ordered steamed fish, which was very good but I have had the same quality at cheap Chinatown restaurants. Also tried the Crab Cakes and French Fries and both were great. This is a great out of the way restaurant to go to if you want something completely different.

I've only been here for breakfast and I thought it was decent. I had the eggs benedict once which was good. Not the best I've had, but decent. I also had the dollar pancakes which were really good. I know what you're thinking about when you think of "buffet's" in general, but this one is the best Asian seafood buffet I've been to. Forget Todai's, this one is better. I love the baked lobster tail, fresh shrimp, sushi, poke, etc. All the food is fresh and you won't be complaining about having "old" buffet food. The chocolate syrup fondue fountain is great! Nice fun atmosphere and a very busy Thai restaurant. The Tom Yum was great, but I'll always remember this place for biting into one of the hot peppers and continuing to chew it up by mistake! I can't believe I forgot about this place, but I used to come here all the time. Not for their gourmet Chinese food, but for the hole in the wall atmosphere and the amusement of watching the old lady pull your food up using the "dumb waiter"(food elevator for those who don't know what that is). The best dish I think is the beef and eggs over rice.

Patxi's seemed to be right up there with the better ones, but I'll agree it's not quite as good as Little Star. Not all that impressive as I had expected. With the prices so high and the wonderful views, I had hoped for higher quality food. I usually rate a Chinese restaurant on their Fried Rice and if they can't make good Fried Rice, then it's usually everything else to follow is bad. This place had the typical old, hard, tasteless fried rice. Everything else was average and the bill was $60 for 2 of us.

I have given Hooters many trys to make the grade, but it has failed every test. Everything about this great concept has gone downhill in the past years and there is no change in sight. Much of the food is of course "fried", and I don't knock them for that, but the taste, oil content, variety and freshness are in question. Why can't Hooters just totally re-design their menu? The staff is usually sitting on the counters, grouping up near the POS system, flirting with "select" tables and artificially kissing your a** for a better tip. I will give credit to the Buffalo Wings and Sangria. Enough said.

One of the cities well kept secrets. Although Vietnamese owned, the thai food is excellent. Kevin is the waiter and he comes from 5 star hotels and his service shows. Everything is explained in detail and with great knowledge. I love the Pla Sam Rod, which is deep fried fish with a sweet tamarind sauce, garlic and basil. The broiled salmon is terrific and well seasoned. I rarely reach for the salt shaker here, which I'm known for doing. Kevin knows that I like extra coconut milk with my Sticky Rice w/Mango! I was very pleased with Viva Restaurant. I had to try the pizza of course and decided to order a large and take most of it home. The pizza was very tasty and I loved the thick texture of it and chewy crust. I also tried the chicken picatta which was just the way I like it, very lean and tart with lots of capers. The veggies were not overcooked and there was a healthy helping of pasta along side. The waitress was quite nice and let us know that she was part of the family that owned this restaurant. This restaurant should have all "Positive" ratings, but if you notice, both negative ratings were about price issues which I know can be frustrating, but I don't believe it warrants a negative rating. The bottom line is the food is great here!

What a disappointment. We couldn't figure out why the service was so bad at our table. We were there 1 hour and 45 minutes, while watching others leave who had gotten seated after us. I couldn't even BUY a glass of water. The Mango Shrimp so so, the flat noodles tasteless, the roti was very good. The worst part was when the "rat" above us jumped down on the suspended ceiling and shook the whole ceiling. You can hear him scurrying around above our heads. The waiters faces turned white and the customers that heard it all stared at each other with fear. It was hard to eat after that. I wanted to try the new location for Fior D' Italia so I ended up going for Valentines Day. I took my good friend and neither of us were impressed. The service needs improvement. It has the feeling of the wait staff that have worked there for 30 years and they're tired of working there. The host staff were very attentive though. The food was quite average and seemed like "banquet" style food that you would get at a hotel. Maybe it was the lack of presentation. Perhaps it's worth a try, but don't let them seat you in the very back room which lacks ambiance.

My friend raved about this place, but I later found out it was because of the fun Italian guys that kiss you on the cheek when you leave. The food is quite average and I have to say, the Chicken Parmesan was less than average. The chicken was way too thin, therefore overcooked. It took a knife to cut it and the marinara was mediocre. I would say it's fun for tourists, but for us locals, there's a lot better Italian food out there.

I was talked into the flank steak by the waiter and it was tough as I expected. My friend ordered the short ribs and I'm so glad I didn't get that one! There was gristle and fat on the ribs and it was tasteless. I was dying for some A1 steak sauce! The best part was the mashed potatoes and spinach. My overall experience was very positive here. It reminded me of something between "Izzy's" and "Outback". The warm bread loaves, salad with choice of dressings at the table, etc were very consistent of a real steak house. The New York steak was so flavorful, that I didn't need anything on it! I've never seen a restaurant with such mixed reviews. I'll give it a thumbs up. I take into account that this is not a 5 star restaurant and they don't try to be. They just serve up a good meal at a fair price with a fantastic view, if you go in the day. I like the brunch items and I'll most likely be back soon.

I'm not opposed to touristy places as long as it's good, but this was not. I've gone twice just because of the music and both times I was disappointed with the food. Can southern fried chicken have a little more flavor please? There is no coordination with the restaurant servers and the blues club, because our meal went 30 minutes into our show. We lost track of the time and no one was there to bail us out. The music is great, but maybe stop at Jack in the Box first.

A let down for me. I never mind paying top dollar for any meal as long as it lives up to it's reviews, but this did not. First of all, let me say the service was absolutely great. I will give them credit for wonderful service. I even did the "napkin on the chair" test and they passed twice! The food was average and I expected more taste from the sauces for a French restaurant.

Bland, comes to mind. I was expecting so much flavor since this is vegan and they've got so many ways to boost up the flavor, but not enough for my tastes. The worst part was the service. I'm sure they're all not like this, but this guy literally wanted our party of 6 out of there. He wanted to go home and it showed by every facial expression. Then he would disappear in the kitchen and come back angry because we wanted dessert. I won't go back, neither will my 5 friends.

I am giving this restaurant a positive just by a nose hair. When I go to a 5 star restaurant, I have very high expectations. I spend a lot of money and buy expensive wine so I expect the best, but it fell slightly short of being great. The waitress seemed a little depressed and there was a mix up between the wine steward and the waitress. They didn't re-fold my napkin after I took off for 5 minutes to the restroom. Food was very good and I love the solid first class decor.

I was taken by surprise when I went to Oola! I didn't expect it to be so good, but it kept getting better. It's a small cozy plush atmosphere with such a cool bar! The bar stools did it for me because they are soft and padded, with a swivel base, so no stiff necks! I got the VIP table in the loft looking down at the restaurant. We even had our own draw curtains. The Short Ribs were the best I've had and the Seared Ahi was incredible! I loved the sliced Sirloin and Parmesan Fries. I'll be back!

A good choice for a group or party. The food is actually very good, but the overall restaurant is lacking in charm and warmth. Nothing spectacular. The crowd looked like the "starving students" crowd that were pleased to get a meal for less than $10 bucks. My noodles were just the right texture, but they forgot to add the taste. I had to liven it up with salt and soy sauce which raised the sodium level to new levels. There are so many good Thai places in the city with much better food. I'll add that the atmosphere was very cool and hip.

Beautiful decor and an up scale crowd. The artwork is the most interesting thing about the Redwood Room. The only negative is the "bouncers" with headsets that hold a line out the door during late hours. With the usual attitude of course, Oh, unless you're a cute girl! The best part is when I ordered 3 drinks, the bartender would not take my money! I stood there like fool for about 5 minutes and finally left. I would have to rate Zuni's as an over rated restaurant in the city. It is so average but people flock to it. There is nothing special about this place, not even the building or busy Market St location. This was the first time in my life I paid nearly $20 for a Cheese Burger. Nothing spectacular. Lot's of caucasians eat here because it's very americanized. I noticed our waitress was Korean. I'm Japanese, so I can vouch for good sushi. This is not bad, but not great either

E&O really needs to re-evaluate their menu. The taste is not up to par but the presentation is always a winner. Why can't they make the food taste better? I reccommend designing a new menu.

This is definitely one of my favorites. The roasted crab is so good, the butter drips down you chin. The garlic noodles are the best. This restaurant has earned it's good reputation.

Good food and pleasant atmosphere. The view is spectacular! The restaurant can use some fluffing though. I know that being a club at night, must be hard on the furniture.

How can you not like Cheesecake Factory? It has something for everyone. They don't claim to be a 4 star restaurant and they don't have 4 star prices either. The service is excellent and consistent!

I love the atmosphere at Ana Mandara! It reminds me of an outdoor street cafe. Prices are high, but so is the rent on Fishermans Wharf. It's more than I expected. Nice bar too!

The service was good, but the food was average. I had the chicken parmasean and I've had better microwaved from the freezer.

I just went there for a drink and was turned off by the staff. Very mediocre service and seemed to be lacking management. I think they need to step it up a notch and it will be a fantastic place!
