I liked this place. The atmosphere was decent - a little over the top wannabe LA nightclub... they need to turn down the Walgreens House Music #5 CD and they need to get their air conditioner fixed (as it wasn't working when I visited).
Leaving all that aside, I thought the food was terriffic. Some really nice appetizer plates that showed good presentation, creativity and put together a nice taste. The specialty rolls were good and filling. I tried the tuna tartar salad with truffle oil and although I couldn't taste the truffle oil very much, it was still a nice dish.
I'd definitely visit again. But if you're just in the mood for straight up sashimi or sushi combo plates you're better off at the corner sushi bar.

OK, first off the prices aren't that high. That being said, the food isn't too great either. I had the Steak Frites Ribeye that was comparable to something you'd pick up at Safeway, not an especially large or particularly good cut of meat. Nothing special done with the fries. Other's at my table had the fish which came out overcooked and dry, the Bordelaise wasn't particularly tasty. Service was fine, atmosphere is good... but all in all I left with the notion that I won't be going back.

I thought this place was pretty good. I'd give it a B+ as far as Italian food goes.

This place serves an overpriced steak that has been bathed in liquid butter and salt. Which, of course, is tasty. The sides are good, the atmosphere is alright but for some reason dining in a chain this large paying these prices makes me feel somewhat strange.

Pretty decent place for italian food in the bay area. Portions are good, sauces are relatively tasty compared to a lot of other bay area Italian. Very friendly waitstaff, always friendly. I've gone back a couple times.

What a terrible excuse for italian food. A can of chef boy-ar-dee is better "italian" food.

Growing up in New England, I am really fussy about my chowder. I like it very peppery with loads of clam,... the Pacific version of this falls very short for me, but if you DO like Pacific Clam Chowder, this place is tough to beat.

My favorite restaurant in San Jose thus far. The ambiance is nice and dark, the waitstaff is pleasant and attentive and the food is creative without getting too carried away. Most importantly it's consistent. If I could make one change to this place I would have them drizzle some black truffle oil on the fries they serve... maybe with some reggiano. (Maybe I'll bring my own next time)... great food here!

Now I know that Buca is pretty much the "Burger King" of Italian fare, but I just happen to think this entire chain is not worth much. Food is watery, lacking spice and usually inconsistent. The inside of the place is ridiculous even for someplace that isn't trying to be anything but a funhouse. I come from the east coast and may be somewhat of an Italian food snob, but I'd take a stouffers lasagne in the microwave before I'd eat anything here again.

Food is very good, ambiance is nice and dark. Getting here can be a little bit of a pain in the neck by San Jose standards but that's to be expected with any downtown location. The waitstaff is very attentive and courteous, bartenders friendly and prompt. They seem to have a good command of both beef and seafood, with some nice appetizer items on the menu. Lobster Johnnycakes are delicious, try the ice wine for dessert.

This place is terrible in every sense of the word. A tourist trap with food that would be considered sub-par for a diner. Service is not so hot either. I had the pineapple mahi mahi which was forgettable. The baby clam appetizer came and I could tell 1/3 of them were probably dead before being cooked as the shell was smashed, yet not opened due to heat.

I've made it to the Palomino a number of times, mainly due to convenience. The appetizers and drinks are great, and the decor is nice - making it a perfect place for drinks and small plates. Dinner seems to be hit or miss, I've had some flat out bad meals here... but I've also had some fantastic ones. The braised short ribs make the top of the list.
