Great sushi restaurant! But I admit I am a pushover for any place that offers Kampachi... I didn't order any of the fancy rolls but stuck to nigiri. Salmon, tuna, hamachi, hirame, scallop, kampachi... Oh ohh and inari... I love those little pouches so much. Why don't more sushi places offer inari... The service was very friendly and attentive. The waitress suggested we try the hirame as it was fresh fresh fresh that day and she was spot on.

Awful. Just awful. We had 2 large- one veggie the other sausage and mushroom delivered. What a waste of $48... and that didn't include the tip... I knew we were in for it when I saw the watery pink juice (tomato sauce vapor???) pooling in the cheese... The pizza was soggy and all the topping flopped off and fell with a plop when I tried to pick up a slice. I used the BIG spatula to transfer it to the plates. Where it sat because none of the kiddies would eat it... It is now seeping through the paper garbage bag as I type... Go else where...

Mediocre food. We went for dinner so maybe that was the mistake. But there are too many other dim sum spots in the city to repeat a trip here. The bad part of the evening was the waiter. We ordered pot stickers, ginger scallion oysters and spicy beef. The waiter expressed surprised that that was all we ordered b/c the other table (and he chucked his thumb over his shoulder and indicated a table of 3 well "healthy" diners) had ordered ten dishes. With each subsequent trip he continued to 'satirize' them. How ignorant and inappropriate. Hmm I wonder what he was saying about us. As for the food~~ The oysters were tasteless. The pot stickers OK. The spicy beef was well spicy but OK. The tea was disgusting. Now I ask you how does a Chinese restau screw up a pot of tea? Let it sit for a 1/2 hour until 2 suckers come in and order a pot. It was way over-steeped, cold and bitter. We didn't complain. You never know who we might have p'ed off. So we ordered a beer instead...

Can you stand one more review of Ebisu??? The sushi is good and the service was friendly and fast but I just can't find anything to write home about... The fish was fresh; I really enjoyed the nigiri. The rolls just didn't tickle my fancy. Maybe I will give it another try and order differently but than again I have a couple favorite spots that I like too much...
Not exactly a shiny positive but than again Ebisu doesn't really deserve a neutral either...

I can't compare Marcello's to NY pizza because I have never had it but I can compare it to my little 80 year old silver haired Sicilian mother's pizza... Once I got passed the guilt of eating take out pizza (when she heard she rolled her eyes skyward, wrung her hands and muttered 'vergogna' about 50 times while walking out of the room...) I actually enjoyed it even if it is not as good as ma's home made. We ordered two large- 1 cheese and the other sausage/mushroom all over and on one half peppers and olives. The cheese pizza was a little frisbee like but the kiddies liked it. The dressed was gorgeous looking but I think it needs the pungent flavor of peppers and olives to give it more flavor. It might need a further kick of some hot pepper. It arrived hot and fast. The driver was nice and the gal who took my phone order was very sweet and helpful. For a quick convenient meal I would definitely order it again.

Tsunami sushi is delicious! It was all great; tuna poki, 5 sisters roll, papa-san roll, 1974 roll, or maybe it was 1776 roll (some date who remembers now...) nigiri, nigiri and more nigiri. The waloo is out of this world good as is the tuna, scallop, and of course salmon, et al. The food does arrive at glacial speed but it was a Friday night and the company was good ; ) so the wait was not really an issue. Our waitress was an absolute doll. The place was packed by 7 and people were waiting for tables so you probably would want to make a reservation. Parking is a bit of a pain. After turning for 15 we found a spot about 6 blocks away. Normally a small trek is not an issue but in 4 inch heels it is. I am not a sneakers kinda girl in the night. Once you stack you can't go back... If you want the night to continue Fly is kitty corner... Tsunami is definitely on my short list of favorite sushi haunts...

Really delicious BBQ. Brisket was so tender and juicy. Chicken was delicious. The ribs were to die for. Cole slaw was really good. Nice and crisp. Not waterlogged... And the slaw veggies were shaved real thin. It was fresh made for sure. Good dressing too... Mac and cheese was OK. Not my fave but the place is about BBQ right? And there are so many other things that are good... Corn muffins were moist and addictive. Greens looked delicious. Hubby said the beans were quite good. I should have gone back for seconds but got caught up in the vino... Boo Hoo, I missed dessert!!! And the pies looked so tasty. That's what I get for drinking my lunch... Our friends had MM BBQ cater their party and it was such a great idea. The food was nicely presented and the servers were really nice. I will definitely go.

Delicious food! We ordered chicken shawerma, lamb shawerma, two dolmadas and a side of hummus bi tahini. It was all delicious and the servings were quite generous. Shawermas were good and big. The dolmadas are delectable. Solid and plump, with a little bit of lemon and mint tang. If we had done take out I would have licked the hummus plate. As it was our first time at Taboun the owner comped us some falafel. A couple years ago after a dozen tries in as many restaurants I swore I would never eat falafel again. I groaned inwardly when she brought the plate to the table with her compliments. Did I eat my words and the falafel! The best falafel I have ever tasted. Crispy out, light and airy in. Inviting and clean restaurant. Owner is a very sweet lady. We will definitely come again. Highly recommended.

Pork ribs, beef ribs, short ribs, rib ribs. It was all delicious. Granted I am not a Korean BBQ aficionado, as a matter of fact this was the first time, but I ate it all... and licked my fingers too. The meat was tender and garlicky. The sauce had a tab of sweetness to it. Lots of nice flavor. The kim chi was spicy and the beer was cold. We also had an order of fried oysters. The oysters were very fresh and tasty. I wasn't expecting them to be fried in egg as in an omelet. I prefer batter/tempura flakes fried. But they were still good. Portions are generous. The server was very nice. I have a feeling it was the owner. She gave my 3 year old refills of complimentary milk and steamed rice. I would definitely eat here again.

I recommend HSB for the fresh fish, but it is not my favorite place. Delicious nigiri- sake, maguro, scallop, hamachi... In spite of 60+ 'fancy' rolls offered, somehow, the 4 we ordered had the same insides, shrimp temp and crab. Good but tasted the same despite the different tops. Tea was cold. Spice was hot. Actually beware of anything labeled spicy. It is lip numbing, face turning red HOT. That kind of heat did nothing for the flavor but destroy it. The solo waitress was very nice but I cringe when all the plates arrive at once. Meal progression-nothing on the table to being bombarded with everything arriving at once. Obviously frenchy hubby's food habits have rubbed off on me but I like to eat in courses and linger and relish the flavors of each dish separately- my point of ordering several items. I may return for the fresh fish but choose rolls more carefully, sit at the bar for a slower paced meal, and avoid the spice to save my taste buds.

Came here with a dear friend for a drink or three... Went back again a second time a few weeks later. The decor is quite nice and the drinks are good. The food is OK not terribly interesting. Then again it is not an eatery... The plates are huge. We ordered a tasty crisp plate of fries and fried calamari. Each plate came with a choice of dipping sauces. The food is well fried. And since the bartender is not light on the jigger, better to have a triple X size platter o' stick to the ribs food... Beware of the valet parking. Each time I have gone it has set me back $45. But each time I have gone I have had such a nice evening, so who cares...?

Fresh delicious fish; however, the mixtures leave a lot to be desired. Cherry Blossom- salmon, hamachi, scallion in, spicy tuna w/ pesto do do's on top. What possessed us to order a roll drizzled w/ pesto. We burped it all the way home. Firecracker balls- deep fried tuna roll w/ secret sauce. So spicy the heat killed all the flavor. Ditto for the Super Dynamite. Hamachi carpaccio was supposed to come with mango- not an atom of mango in sight. It came w/ avocado and the avo didn't do anything for the dish. The dish was bland but the fish was good. Sub 1000- according to the menu it is supposed to have apple and cuke inside. It came stuffed with bell pepper. I don't like arbitrary surprise substitutions especially when I order carefully! And there was more of that green do do drizzled on top. Nigiri kampachi, tuna, sake all good. The nigiri saved the meal. Go for the nigiri but skip the wacko rolls. But then why go in the first place. Noise level is horrendous!

Incredibly delicious, fresh fish! Beautiful presentation. Go to their website and click through the pics to see how lovely the plates are. Most of the 'special sushi' comes in 2 pieces, the rice is very light and sparingly used, and the offerings are an unparalleled blending of fish, fruit/vegetable/herb and sauce. Therefore Kabuto is perfect for a degustation of sushi. Don't go to fill up or else the experience of the flavors of savory and sweet and the creativity of each piece will be lost. Kabuto does not have a huge repertoire of the typical fancy rolls that are popular at many places. But the one we tried was nice. Sammy roll- CA roll in, salmon out w/ light curry sauce. Tuna sashimi salad and Jalapeno hamachi were excellent. Kanpachi nigiri out of this world. Special sushi- Hamachi pear, spicy scallop, toro tartare beautiful little jewels. Ono grape-wahoo with a bite of skinned grapefruit interesting but the grapefruit was a tad overpowering. Highly recommended.

This is the second time Tastyr has come through for me!!! A couple months ago I was dreaming of cassis mousse cake, signed on to Tastyr, and lo and behold Shubert's had a 2 minute old review by Angela... So I peeled out of the drive to pick up a cake. Delicious mousse cakes!!! Beautifully decorated!!! As good as many of the mousse cakes we used to get in either France or Montreal. The mousse cakes are not sweet, as they should be, and fresh and flavorful. My only critique is the glaze is a tad too runny... But honestly the mousse cakes are truly good. It is just that in my 40 years I must have eaten 500 of these babies. Now my main place for picking up a cake for a special occasion, a sunday dinner, guilty indulgence, or just because... : ) I am not too fond of sweet desserts but I have to admit that princess cake is looking pretty enticing...

Really good dim sum. Pot stickers, shrimp dumplings, steamed greens all good. Clams with black bean sauce very good. Food was served hot and fast. Very friendly service. Our waiter and the manager doted on my daughters. They were friendly, attentive and good humored. Especially when my three year old sent the waiter off for a glass of water, then a straw, and then for a green straw. We ordered take out for the boys who were left at home. The server waited to put the order in until just before we were ready to pay so the food would be taken out hot. That was a thoughtful touch. Easy to find parking in this area. Will definitely go back.

When I signed on to Tastyr to get a little inspiration for dinner out we actually were not in the mood for sushi. But on the home page I saw Angela's and Wayne's rave reviews for this place and the enticing pics and couldn't resist. LUCKY US! This place is fantastic! A must for sushi lovers! We started with a small tuna tataki (see pic) and regretted not getting a large order. Next came the rolls; Moon Dog (pic), Firecracker, Cherry Blossom, and Hamachi Mango. We ate all 4 rolls faster than they could bring them to the table. Each roll is beautifully presented, the right amount of sauce, exciting flavors and irresistible combinations. We contemplated dessert but the fish is so fresh and the rice is light so we ordered a 49er. Avocado and mint inside, salmon and paper thin slices of lemon out. Delicious, light and refreshing. Perfect fish swift and friendly service. Best dining experience we have had in a long time. Can't wait to go back.

Awww come on... Who can resist the mechanical apes, elephants and butterflies??? The howling, screeching and shrieking jungle noises??? OK ONLY go if you have kids !!! We do, and we went for a playmate's birthday party. Otherwise I had no idea this place existed... : )~ The food is pretty good actually. Eatable. In a Hard Rock Cafe sort of way... Certainly better than most of what is served in this particular part of town... The decor is fun and truly fascinating for the youngsters. The waterworks are loud and up the heat index to oppressive. And the waiters bellowing "VOLCANO!!!!" every time someone orders said dessert is a tad annoying. But even the coolest cat has to admit that the big tanks of tropical fish are cool. Of course a place like this is in the most touristy part of town. Otherwise why else other than for kiddie parties would anyone eat here... Big positive because the children were delighted...

I haven't eaten here for almost 20 years and they still start lunch with a tasty, huge popover and clear, savory broth. The popover and broth are served systematically. On the menu we both ordered the pasta with seafood which was delicious. Pasta (penne) was al dente with lots of fresh shellfish; plump mussels, shrimp, scallops... We both had a nice flute of champagne... And an espresso to finish. With tip it came to a few dollars under $100. So yes, it is a bit pricey. But then again we did have a glass of bubbly. Alas, the trials and tribulations of dining with a blue eyed Frenchman. The service is superb and the food is good. We lucked out and didn't have to wait for a table. But many a time there is a deadly wait. Hence the reason I haven't been in 20 years... Yes, it is primarily for ladies who lunch :D... I went with Mom 20 years ago but this time I went with hubby and it was just as nice ; )

Nice atmosphere. Fast attentive service. For a Friday night it was not too crowded and not at all loud like some places can get... Our food was delicious, fresh and beautifully presented. The hamachi with jalapeno is fantastic!! Hamachi with a light sauce, shave of jalapeno and sprinkle of cilantro and chive. The peppered tuna was delectable also. Lightly seared with a sauce. Nigiri (salmon and tuna) was buttery and fresh. Regret not ordering some fatty tuna or scallop... For rolls we had the geisha, heaven and hime. All great great great!!! Definitely will return especially for some more of that divine hamachi with jalapeno! BTW the sashimi platters look very tempting and the blue under lighting really is nicely done!!!
Probably best to make reservations. Reserve anytime after 3 pm. We tried to walk in on a Saturday but there was an hour wait because they had a party going on... So we reserved for the next Friday.

Delicious!!! The flavors we ordered- blackberry, chocolate, cookies, tangerine, mango. Ohhhhhhh mango, mango MAAAAAAAANGO!!!! Good thing we are family because we all slurped each others cones : )~ Irresistible!!! Each ice cream had fantastic smooth consistency and incredible rich flavor. Can't wait to go back! I regret not asking for a little taste of cinnamon, pumpkin or tarmac. Tarmac = deep, rich, dark chocolate ice cream with peanut butter and cookies folded in. Some of the other flavors - pomegranate, ginger, grapefruit, mint chip, Mexican chocolate, raspberry, rum raisin... The are many flavors for many tastes... The server was very nice. Delicious food. Fantastic service.
The dungeness crab cornet was light and sweet and beautifully presented. Gnocchi with truffles was delectable. Nice fresh woodsy truffles. Fluffy gnocchis. Foie gras out of this world. I could have licked the plate. Hubby had the duck platter and I had the lamb. Both dishes arrived hot and swift. The lamb was perfectly rare, juicy and tender to the bite. Frenchie hubby, a die hard duck eater, enjoyed his plate immensely. Excellent cheese selection. The desserts were tempting but we rarely indulge. Maybe next time... The sommelier was spot on. Paired every course with a great wine. Our waitress was perfect. I wish I remembered her name b/c she was so good. Knowledgeable, courteous and polished.

I wouldn't wait in a line to eat here. Actually I can make a great omelette myself... Light and fluffy but filling. The host was very charming and welcoming. He had reserved a nice table for us in the front next to the Christmas tree but... We arrived at 7:03 for a 7pm reservation and our table had been given away by another waiter 10 minutes before. So we dined in the back. Much quieter spot than the front but the decor was not nearly as festive. Our waitress was solo in the back and overloaded. Nice but slow.
Ahi tuna appetizer - fresh and well seared but a little bland. Came with stir fried julienned veggies. The crab cakes - not so great. Too greasy and too browned. Enchilada platter was good. 2 enchiladas, rice, beans, guacamole. Generous amount of food. The lamb skewers were very good. Tender lamb chunks with cherry tomatoes, onion, mushrooms on a bed of rice. We didn't get dessert. In all a pleasant experience but not typically a place we would go to. The food was good but I can cook it as well or better so why go... Great place for sports bar and comfort food fans.

My parents are originally from Boston so visceral hankerings for lobster rolls and fried whole belly clams run deep in the blood. I ordered double lobster roll plates to go. 2 lobster rolls served on a lightly toasted hot dog bun, fries and cole slaw. DELICIOUS!!! YUMMMMMMM!!! Lots of super fresh chunky meat. Lightly seasoned. Fresh crisp bun. Good cole slaw and fries. Dylan, the owner, is very nice and customer attentive. Mom, who often complains about a lack of good fresh lobster in SF, was very happy! She nearly fainted when I told her they have fried whole belly clams. Can't wait to go back for a big basket... I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a good old fashioned finger licking delish lobster roll... As good as any clam shack on the Cape and that is saying something!!!

And I thought this place ONLY served cheesecake... Extensive and slightly confusing menu. The food is good, but why are the portions so HUGE?? Shared an order of pot stickers. Tasty but they were swimming in soy sauce. Luckily I ordered the small portion Thai pasta. Good but again a little too much sauce. Husband got the goulash. He enjoyed it. But still TOO MUCH FOOD!!! He wasn't hungry for 2 days. The diner next to me had a nice looking salad. It was the size of the salad bowl I put on the table for 5 people. The lemonade comes in quart size glasses with free refills. We got plain cheesecake to go because we were too full. All sorts of fancy flavor cheesecakes. Pumpkin, strawberry, beef and banana... ; ) Yummy cheesecake. Especially in bed at midnight... ; ) Service very nice. Lucked out on the wait. At noon it was only 20 minutes. A fair place to go. I have lived in the neighborhood for 34 of my 39 years and this is the ONLY place I will (nolonger) set foot in. I have tried eating in for coffee and pastry or a light meal but honestly folks, I don't think dogs and eating establishments mix. And yes, I have had pets: a horse, a rat, several dogs, several cats, a budgie, fish, fish and more fish, hermit crabs, a gerbil, a guinea pig... So I AM a pet lover. But not near food... And speaking of food... Nothing to write home about... The last straw though was one very rude person behind the counter. I ran in to get 3 croissants for me, hubby and Mom. The snappy counter girl made a crack about me leaving some croissants for the others. Don't need that kind of lip especially since Safeway sells better croissants...

Hubby and I always order the same thing... Beef and black bean burrito supremo and with an ice cold beer. The burrito has the typical accompanying ingredients; sour cream, rice, avocado et al... The chicken is good but the beef goes a bit better with the mix... The beef is savory and tender. There is a mini buffet with 3 kinds of salsa and a bucket of pickled jalapeno carrots. These spicy babies are sooooo good on the side. 'Lil bit of carrot, 'lil bite of burrito, 'lil bit of jalepeno... That is if you can take the heat... : ) Oh and don't forget a long pull on the beer... We get em to go maybe once a month and also have done eat in. Fun decor. Nice protected al fresco dining area set in from the side walk so you can eat undisturbed by pedestrian traffic. Very big burrito for a fair price. Bread, croissants, pain au chocolat all very good. Better be b/c SF has some good bread. Even better are the down home Frenchie comfort foods... Flan is delicious!! They have CANNELLE for the love of Pete! YUM A++. Never had it? Go get some and hope I left you one. Gallette des Rois is YUM. Flaky crust, moist almond paste layer. They include the 'feve' (tiny ceramic figure) and the crown. Hubby cried real tears when I brought home ficelle. Cried nostalgic tears b/c I didn't bring home an epi-- a type of yum baguette.
Hubby is fresh from Versailles and incidently on the mere's side they have had a boulangerie for several generations. Bread is in his blood. He gives the place a Oui Oui! Me too.
ps
FYI Galette des Rois is traditionally eaten January 6 (but available all January) on the epiphany/Twelth Night. The feve is hidden in one of the slices of gallette. Watch your teeth... Whoever finds the feve is crowned king. Try it. Fun and yum.

The pot stickers are dry and bland. The beef chow fun is all noodles... Where's the beef??? We ordered it for our 2 children (5 and 7) and there was not enough meat for them let alone for the 2 adults... While the food is fresh to be sure, the flavor is bland. Trying to be too healthy??? Servers are as nice as can be, attentive and fast. The owners are absolutely delightful. And totally kid friendly! How many restaurants encourage you to bring in your 3 children, all under 7, to dine??
As for the nationality of the owners... Why is THAT important?? We have eaten at plenty of excellent French restaurants in this city that do NOT have French chefs. Ditto Italian.
Come on people this is America.
Discovered this gem this time last year. With all the sushi places in the city and even on the same street we always come back to Asa. Give them a try. It is like eating with dear old friends.
