“The feeling here is cozy, not high style ambience. Waitstaff is mostly Asian, but my waiter had a thick French accent.
At lunch recently I had the steak with frites, not at all expensive so I feared a tough experience. Happily, the meat was very tender, with no gristle, though slightly past the medium rare I'd specified. Frites were just right. The small green salad was a bit soggy, though, and the stuffed tomato uninspired.
The little square of dark chocolate that came gratis with my espresso was a nice touch. I'd go back to explore more of the menu. ”

“Located in the Jack London Shopping barn in Glen Ellen. Open for breakfast & lunch only. The food is wholesome and delicious. This is home made tasting "country food". Quiches, Pannini, vegetable soups, fresh salads Ingredients are purchased at the local markets. It would be nearly impossible to spend more than $20 per person on a full out meal. Wine and beer are sold.
Dining room is decorated with wine country house wares. It's all for sale. Good lunch stop for something "a little lighter". ”

“I have eaten here about five times while I was visiting the museum. They offer a variety of cold/hot sandwiches, salads and other unique dishes. Prices are on the high side for museum cafe food. I think the real value is for museum guest who wants to stay on location all day. ”

Not kid friendly. Left over food was wrapped in foil sheet for to go ( not to-go box). Bread was old and given in very small portion. Service's so so, not very friendly. Price above average. Food is decent but in small portion. I don't think it's worth the money. ”

Red Currant Cafe |
Cuisine:
Mediterranean Bistro |
Menlo Park |
“6/08 Tue. Where can you find great food, serene gardens & local arts all in 1 place? Red Currant at the Allied Arts Guild is such a hidden treasure. The bistro is a makeover from a previous cafe. The food is superbly med, using fresh produce and fancy olive oil. The med salad ($13.75) was outstanding, with very tasty roasted peppers & mint-basil yogurt dressing. The roasted beet salad ($13.50) had both red & orange beets, served with horseradish cream & champagne vinaigrette. The tuna nicoise sandwich ($11.75) was uniquely Italian with sliced hard boiled egg & Persian cucumber on focaccia. The side green salad was well seasoned with balsamic & oil. Sitting in a fountain courtyard and surrounded by blooming flowers, can this be Tuscany, Catalan, or sunny Menlo Park? After lunch we strolled hand in hand in the maze of separate gardens -- roses, perennials, citrus trees & hanging baskets. These and the Spanish archway, stone/brick path & artisan stores are as charming as the food. Wow! ”

Epic Roasthouse |
Cuisine:
Seafood Steakhouse |
Embarcadero |
“Epic architecture, epic views, epic prices featuring nearly epic cuisine risking eclipsing the tous ensemble. Exhilarating destination roadhouse, Epic Roasthouse epitomizes San Francisco gourmet dining for tourists. San Franciscans may delight in the feng shui ambience complimented by chef's creative flavor combinations. Old Timers may prefer the occasionally stale House of Prime Rib, but food at Epic steals the show. Stunning green pepper salad with just enough heat, delectable beef tartare prepared tableside, to die for delicious short ribs. Astonishingly huge and succulent port tenderloin with the freshest of meat; unexpected side of enormous wild mushrooms, the consistency of steak. Obscenely priced baked potato for $10, unnecessary given otherwise gargantuan portions. Desserts include fabulous diverse flavors of homemade ice cream, enticing creamed corn and decadent caramel. Exorbitant wine list with few standout bargains: 2003 Laurel Glen Cabernet for $60. Solicitous service. ”

“
I've been here about 1/2 a dozen times and each time I walk away w/a different experience. Today wasn't any different. After perusing the menu I choose the bacon, caramelized marmalade onion and Bleu Cheese Omelet w/an extra piece of toast. Sounds good! What's up w/the 1 slice any more, hmmm. Oh well, I dive in and am immediately taken aback. There are more onions than bacon and it's so sweet it overpowers the dish. Not to mention I had to hunt for the sprinkles (literally) of bleu cheese. O.K., so I start picking out all the onions to find very little bacon. Next fork full is the potatoes. Now they look good but are luke warm. Meal is going down hill at this point. O.K. you cant' go wrong w/toast right, "wrong". It's 1/2 toasted, cool and no butter. I have to find the waitress to ask for butter. Again, what's up with that. Server comes by, asks how things are I tell her, "o.k.", but not great. Potatoes are cold. She offers up new ones and I think what's the point. ”

Da Pit |
Cuisine:
BBQ Barbecue |
Western Addition |
“In the South barbecue is a way of life, an all day affair or a quick solution to the daily question “What's for supper?” Men fight over the honor of their barbecue in some places, never insult a man's barbecue. I miss southern barbecue. I stumbled upon Da Pit, formerly Brother-in-Law's BBQ, found a parking spot right in front at half past noon. A girls gotta eat lunch, right? A nice gentleman says, as he is chopping brisket, “ I don't have the Mac and cheese today but I got green beans and potato salad.” I ordered the brisket to go with potato salad, as I saw an industrial size can of corn in the kitchen, I assumed the green beans where also caned. I was offered a choice of mild, medium or spicy bbq sauce and went with the medium, perfect balance of smoky, sweet and spicy. The brisket was stellar in between a slice of white bread, oh yeah! The potato salad was the sweet version, which I don't care for generally. Enjoyed my lunch and had enough left over for supper!

“Starved and dehydrated from exploring the SF MOMA we got in the cue hoping for refreshment. We had an assortment of fresh salads and sandwiches, ice teas and coffees all at amusement park prices. Lot's of other options in the Westfield food court for the same money but if your pooped and ready for fuel give it a go.

Cook's Seafood Restaurant |
Cuisine:
Seafood |
Menlo Park |
“7/08 Sat. I was debating whether I should write about Cook's. We only ordered fish n chips ($10) for each of us, and shared a white clam chowder ($3 for 8 oz). The place is small, but tidy & neat. There was not really a lot of stuff to review about. How about the different choices of fish you can pick? We had the halibut, which turned out to be a 1.5” thick, credit card size chunk of meat. I didn't like the artificial shape of the fish, nor the well done meat, albeit fresh and tasty. I could have ordered the Pacific cod, salmon, or sanddab (a few $ less), since later I saw that they were fillet shape & thinner (classical!). But the giant country fries were perfectly done. The chowder was ok, but I liked it more if it was thicker (eat with a fork!). At least I did not chew on any shell particles like in other places. Well, next time when I urge for F-n-C and feel lazy to go to HMB, I will return here and order cod, along with oysters too. ”
