“Custom Burger is a modern red and white burger joint serving high quality meats and gourmet trimmings. Don't miss the Sweet Potato Fries! I had them with an Angus Burger on a lovely Brioche bun with Apple Smoked Bacon, Swiss cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. I would have liked to have the option of choosing a sauce with my fries, Belgian style. I enjoyed my meal and thought that the price was justified given the quality, about $15 for burger, sweet potato fries and a coke. I could have easily split it with a friend, as the portions are large and I could only finish half. Not affordable or healthy for an everyday lunch spot but certainly perfect every once and a while. Enjoy! ”

“8/08 Sun. Chaya rocks! F%d is gr8, meticulous, delicate. Rainbow sashimi ($18 app) was nicely presented, w/ salmon, tuna, hamachi on top a nest of seaweed & julienned cucumber, daikon, beet (no rice!). Sauce was outta wrld w/ olive oil, somtin sweet, few wasabi. It tasted sm%th, crunchy, multiflavored. OMG! Chayapolitan ($10) was mango sm%th, citrus punchy & butiful. AK wild halibut ($31) was 80% :) done, juicy, flaky, tasty, w/ wild mushr%m, white corn, barley, string beans in wine sauce. A+! Waiter suggested to pair with 5 yrs Buelwitz Riesling ($9/glass) - full body, mild sweet, fragrant, fantastic. Wild King salmon ($32) was 100% :( done, crispy skin, still moist & delicious. Sides had fried cheese, chanterelle, shemiji in reduced balsamic. A-! Chocolate croissant bread pudding ($9) was superb w/ xtra crispy croissant sticking outta pudding. Evry bite was heavenly. Dis place is hip, not too loud (except d jazz band), w/ view of Bay Bridge 2 die 4. Service was xlnt. Best fusion! 4* ”

“I've shared quesadillas here as a snack with a friend and enjoyed them. Last night I ordered the special of soft tacos Al Pastor. What a rip off - even for a mall food court. Two small tacos with a smattering of not very interesting tasting meat on the mushy tacos hiding a few shreds of cabbage underneath. Not nearly as appealing or generous of a serving as shown as the photo posted on the counter. The tacos and a glass of the watermelon agua fresca set me back over $12. Even at a food court, I can do better than that. ”

Little Shanghai Restaurant |
Cuisine:
Chinese |
San Mateo |
“25th Ave in San Mateo is a local restaurant row w/ many budget & casual eateries. Little Shanghai has been our top fav. Its inside is not big, but seating is comfy. D xtensive menu has many items that we have not heard of be4, all r Shanghai regional f%d. Dim sum: steamed pork dumplings (8 for $6) & seared pork buns (6 for $5) r consistently gr8. Apps ($5 each): smoked fish, jellyfish, mung bean pasta r delicious. Hot & sour soup tasted better than most places ($6 enough for 6 servings). Exotic: stewed sea cucumber ($16), fish fillet in wine sauce ($10), stir-fried rice cake ($6), sesame dumpling in rice wine/petal sauce ($5 dessert, fragrant, naturally sweet & soothing). Shanghai n%dle ($6) was avg. F%d here is home c%king at its best. Ingredients r properly balanced in portions. Sauce & flavors 4 each dish r distinct on their own. Staff is polite & efficient. When bringing out each dish, they would say “Enjoy it!” as if ur best frnd. At peak hrs, expect 2 w8 15 min or more. 4* ”

“I know there will be the disagreements that I get when review “old style family city” restaurants from the crowd that wants vertical elements standing up on the plate as high as their suppressed ego will allow, No foam here! Bravo, this is the place our family came once a year on that special occasion, it was either here or Joe Ferreas' Troc Restaurant on Geary and Arguello. Anyway the food here is excellent, basic SF Italian not the latest from Tuscany or Umbria BS. The seafood and the pasta are great, the ambiance is better and the best is the prices are still down affordable for the normal non IT working stiff! The salads are fresh, the pasta al dente with succulent sauces loaded with enjoyment and satisfaction on every spoonful. If you are really hungry try their 7 course meal. You can roll out of there if your not careful. Nothing overdone here, a nice place with good old fashioned family values. Wait staff, seasoned old professionals in proper attire. Period. End of ”

“Bambi has eaten here 6 times, last night was my 1st. The Napa valley view from the patio, the building & grounds, the multi-million $ open kitchen, and the retail store are much more impressive than the restaurant food. Menu has just 6 entrees, yet a 50 page wine/booze menu. Our 4 course, 2 hour dinner was equal to meals I've had at the CA Culinary Academy on Polk Street. We ate on the patio during a perfect 78 degree evening. Our server retained her sense of humor though on duty for 11 hours straight. We ate: gazpacho, falafel & radish salad on arugula, day boat scallops, beef short ribs, & a peach souflee. We drank wine 2 flights (3 oz pours), & espresso. Bill before tip = $155. Not a good value? Food flavors were a little oxidized. The plates were arriving fresh from the cook's hands, yet my short ribs tasted like re-heated food. The scallops were better. Come for the spectacle, not the cuisine. ”

Hang Ah Dim Sum |
Cuisine:
Chinese |
Santa Rosa |
“I arrive Thursday 1:15pm. 75 seat room is 70% full. Everybody looks like they are enjoying their food. I'm greeted & seated 10 seconds after I walk in the door. Ice water and really good quality jasmine tea arrive 30 seconds later. I mark-up the dim sum order sheet. I pigged out. I order 7 baskets of dim sum. Veal meatballs, shrimp sui mai, tofu in cabbage broth, BBQ pork buns, custards, puddings, etc, (Oink!) The quality is okay. It's not refined. Presentation & flavors are back-country outer province Chinese food, not fancy-pants ultra-refined Mandarin cuisine. The balance of sweet / sour / salty / brothy / spicy / smoky is there, with all its rustic charm. Total damage was $25. In addition to dim sum, there is a 4 page menu of the usual suspects. Almond chicken combo lunch special is $6.95. It's a ton of food. (8 hours later: MSG warning; If you are MSG sensitive, beware here. I've got a classic MSG hangover headache and mild itchiness over my thorax.) ”

Sophie's Crepes |

Japantown |
“This is the place I go after I read some manga. The best is the green tea and red bean paste crepe. It sounds like a strange combo, but trust me....very very good. It can get crowded at times, but thankfully the people who make the crepes are skilled so you don't get holey crepes. Great place for a date if you are in Japantown because all the places you can sit and eat are just small enough for two people to sit nice and close ;) ”

Le Colonial |
Cuisine:
French (New) Vietnamese |
Downtown |
“Le Colonial just screams something French, but its WAY more Vietnamese when you look at the menu. They make a very good mixed drink, but I thought the food was ok...not great but ok. When I'm paying premium prices for food, I want defined flavors and a wonderful bouquet of aroma's from the dishes I order. I would put the food quality as someplace near Chinatown food, but the decor was really good. If you are going for food, walk elsewhere. IF you want a good drink thou, Le Colonial is a good place to check out. ”
